Rep. Thomas Massie Endorses 'Proven, Energetic Leader' Ron DeSantis for President

Congressman Thomas Massie of Kentucky, a popular figure among grassroots conservatives, has endorsed Florida Governor Ron DeSantis just one day after former President Donald Trump faced criminal charges in a New York City courthouse.

In a statement released by the Never Back Down super PAC, which supports a DeSantis presidential bid, Massie called the Florida governor “a proven energetic leader.”

“America needs a leader who is decisive, respects the Constitution, understands policy, puts family first, and leads by inspiring,” Massie wrote. “That’s why I’m endorsing Ron DeSantis for President.”

The statement continued:

I’ve been honored to call Ron DeSantis a friend for over a decade. During the six years we served together in Congress, I witnessed Ron fight for economic freedom, personal liberty, fiscal responsbility and constitutionally limited government.

In his congressional office and as Governor, Ron has always surrounded himself with capable people who share his principles. Ron knows that putting America first means putting Americans first, not corporations, and he’s never backed down from a fight with the guys in pharma, agriculture and tech.

If we make the right choices, America’s best days are in front of us. Let’s pick a proven energetic leader who can get us there,” he continued. “Let’s choose Ron DeSantis for President.

The news will come as a boost to DeSantis, who has yet to announce his campaign but is widely expected to do so in the near future. However, he is also facing the reality that Trump is experiencing a major boost in the polls as a result of his politically motivated indictment by authorities in Manhattan.

Last month, Congressman Chip Roy similarly endorsed DeSantis, declaring that the next president of the United States must be a “vibrant and energetic leader with the faith, vision, and courage to chart a new course.”

Governor DeSantis is a man of conviction — a man who puts his faith in God first as a dedicated husband and father. He grew up a blue-collar kid who worked hard, got a great education, and used it immediately to serve his country. He loves America unapologetically but loves freedom and the rule of law even more, with the courage to fight for both.

America has been built upon and defined by the sacrifices of one generation for the next. When Republicans choose our 2024 presidential nominee — whom I intend to support against Joe Biden or any other Democrat candidate — I believe it’s time for a new generation of leadership. It’s time for younger, but proven, leadership to offer America eight solid years of transformational change.

Since announcing his candidacy last November, Trump has nicknamed DeSantis “Ron DeSanctimonious,” accused him of disloyalty, and claimed his political career was “dead as a dog” before giving him his endorsement ahead of Florida’s 2018 gubernatorial campaign. He is also the beneficiary of an aggressive influencer operation working to discredit DeSantis as a viable candidate.

Nevertheless, DeSantis’ approval rating in Florida is close to a record high since he first took office in 2019, according to the latest Mason-Dixon poll. The poll survey found that DeSantis has a job approval rating of 59 percent for March 2023 with a 39 percent disapproval. Two percent were unsure.
