Full Frontal With Samantha Bee Mocks Cancer Patient for "Nazi Hair"

Full Frontal with Samantha Bee calls itself a comedy show, but its last episode crossed a line into the indecent behavior that too often permeates television “humor” today.  Last night’s episode featured a segment about CPAC, and included shots of young men with certain hairstyles and deemed such styles “Nazi hair.”  Little did Bee know that one of the young men in her video, 20-year old student Kyle Coddington, is battling brain cancer.  He is a friend of mine and a fellow contributor to OUTSET Magazine, and his strength while fighting cancer has inspired many.  But sure, Bee, let’s talk about his haircut.

The video of the segment has since been deleted, but OUTSET Editor-in-Chief Stephen Perkins captured it and posted it to Twitter:

The show’s Twitter account issued what I loosely call an apology:

Translated: Sorry you took it the wrong way when I made a distasteful joke about your appearance and called you a Nazi.

Sam B herself responded to Coddington’s sister, also apologizing for the offense taken by his family at her words.  Never mind the hypocritical criticism of his appearance, or the disgusting joke calling him a Nazi– simply sorry that they were offended.

The show’s Executive Producer reached out to Coddington and OUTSET, where he contributes, and offered an apology along with a request for a cancer charity to which the show can donate and promote.  Here’s to hoping they’ll follow through on that offer, and maybe– just maybe— offer a real apology to a young man whose strength and courage deserve far more than the disrespect he was shown today.
