I was watching Fox & Friends this morning. They had on Nidal Malik Hasan’s lawyer and they were giving him a hard time. While I don’t like lawyers in general, I was somewhat appalled by their questioning. I would think John Adams might be as well.
I Volunteered Before It Was Cool
Back in August, I volneetered to help Representative Ginny Brown-Waite with a Veterans Benefit Resource Fair she is hosting here in my town. I did this long before Obama and Hollywood pushed people to volunteer.
Today is the day of the fair.
I am not doing it because it is cool or because someone said I should do my civic duty or for any glory. I volunteered to help our honorable veterans (and I want to marry a soldier, but that’s a different story). Don’t just volunteer just to volunteer. Find something you think is a cause worth doing and do it. Go and make a difference in this world your way, not because someone’s else way.

Maine Makes Thirty-One
As some of you well may know, I am against marriage as a state institution. The state has taken something good and twisted it into something rotten. Marriage has more to do with politicians and lawyers than your local clergy. I say we make Civil Unions gender blind and give your local church/temple/mosque the legal protection to marry whoever thy want. Things like “age of consent” and speration laws, should still be left up to the states.
Call me a RINO, but I think a case can be made that Civil Unions is compatible with Republican values. However Maine’s vote is not lost on me. You see, Maine is the Thirty-First state to ban Gay Marriage:

Since I don’t want to step on anyone’s toes, we’ll say Ginny Brown-Waite has chosen to retire and return to private life at the end of her current term. I want to make it clear that she is not and I fully support her re-election in 2010.

While I am here talking about a constitutional amendment, I thought I take the time and talk about Prop 8 and it’s impact.
Let me be brutally honest with you. Since Henry VIII got his hands on marriage, it hasn’t been the same. We all know the story. Henry didn’t get a son from his first wife and so he wanted a divorce. Rome at the time didn’t think that was a good enough reason and so did not oblige the King of England. So Henry threw a fit and cut off relations with Rome. He then set up the Church of England and made himself head of a religion, thus why we have separation of church and state. However we made the same mistake of making what should be a religious institution, a state institution.
Henry VIII’s legacy is damning. Today, marriage has more to do with politicians and lawyers than your local clergy. Marriage has become a joke and vows are ignored. It’s bottom of the barrel nonsense and you know it. The state has taken something good and twisted it into something rotten. I find it poetic that California’s proposition shared a title with the man who destroyed marriage.
Again, I want to put out the idea of Civil Unions for everyone. Let’s give marriage back to church/temple/mosque and let them marry anyone they want. Let politicians and lawyers deal with Civil Unions and leave marriage a sacred religious institution. I want to make it clear that I don’t think people should stay married if they don’t love each other. I am just saying that a priest is more willing to save a marriage than the government, because it is way to easy to get a divorce through the state. They don’t care if you stayed married, because lawyers make too much money on divorce and many politicians are lawyers. Give everyone Civil Unions and let’s be done with it. If the gay community is still up in arms after getting the equal rights they have wanted, then they are just in it to annoy the religious right and we can call them on it.
However, that is not what I came to talk about. I came here to talk about repealing the 17th Amendment (please read this before going forward).

On October 20th, I went into the voting booth and voted. It was an easy vote now that I think about it. When I went in, I had a Palin button that had her picture with the caption “Read my lipstick” and is currently my favorite one I have right now. They made me take it off until I left the voting area, but I can understand why. I got my ballot from the nice lady and marked McCain/Palin. I voted for few other people, but that wasn’t why I was there. With my new minted “I Voted” sticker on my chest, I was ready to go knowing I did my part.
