Bi-Partisan Congressional Ethics Board Seems to Think Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez Broke Federal Law

Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez has been under investigation by the bi-partisan congressional ethics board since December, and things just escalated substantially.

According to a new release from the board, there is “substantial reason to believe that she accepted impermissible gifts associated with her attendance at the Met Gala in 2021.” Further, the allegation is no longer just centered around the breaking of House rules, but it also seems that the board suspects she broke federal law.

The staff for the ethics board is non-partisan, and the membership splits evenly between the parties. The fact that not a single Democrat member voted against advancing the issue and using such strong language speaks volumes about the evidence at hand.

The background of this situation goes back to 2021 when Ocasio-Cortez pranced around the Met Gala in New York City in a dress that read “tax the rich.” At the time, astute observers were questioning where she was getting the money for the ticket, the dress, and the “servants” she had in tow. The cost of admission alone to the Met Gala is $30,000, and the dress was billed at over $40,000.

Of course, it’s already known that Ocasio-Cortez didn’t pay for any of that, which means she accepted the ticket, the dress, and possibly other luxuries as gifts. The problem is that federal law prohibits that.

Now, will anything happen to Ocasio-Cortez? The answer is almost certainly not. I suspect even if a final report finds she broke federal law, the current regime at the DOJ won’t pursue it. The two-tiered justice system is alive and well, and it’s always good to be a Democrat, especially one so popular on the far left.

Meanwhile, journalists such as CNN’s Manu Raju are currently tripping over themselves to report that George Santos is under investigation by the same congressional ethics board. Yet, as of this writing, he hasn’t shared this latest, serious development with Ocasio-Cortez’s case. Weird, right?
