Rand Paul Plays YouTube Like a Fiddle Over Their Attempt to Censor Him

Kentucky Sen. Rand Paul may have just done one of the best political jiu-jitsu moves against YouTube ever seen.

According to National Review, YouTube took down a floor speech that Paul had uploaded to YouTube. Within the speech, Paul mentioned the name of Eric Ciaramella who is believed to be the whistleblower who began the entire impeachment saga against President Donald Trump.

Hilariously, Paul did not mention Ciaramella’s name in the capacity of him being a whistleblower during the speech, but YouTube acted against Paul regardless and took the video down. According to NRO, Paul publicly lashed back at YouTube, calling their bias “dangerous” and noting that he never said Ciaramella was the whistleblower:

Paul told Politico Playbook that the tech platform’s decision was “dangerous and politically biased,” and denied knowing who the whistleblower was. “Nowhere in my speech did I accuse anyone of being a whistleblower,” he stated.

“It is a chilling and disturbing day in America when giant web companies such as YouTube decide to censure speech. Now, even protected speech, such as that of a senator on the Senate floor, can be blocked from getting to the American people,” Paul added.

YouTube told Politico that the decision was part of a larger effort to purge the name from the platform, and said that the company had already deleted “hundreds of videos and over ten thousand comments that contained the name.”

“Videos, comments, and other forms of content that mention the leaked whistleblower’s name violate YouTube’s Community Guidelines and will be removed from YouTube,” YouTube spokeswoman Ivy Choi said. She added that uploaders had “the option” to edit the name out of their footage and re-upload.

Choi just confirmed that Ciaramella’s name is the name of the whistleblower, whether she intended to or not.

So, in one fell swoop, Paul exposed YouTube’s political bias, made YouTube agree that Ciaramella was the Ukraine whistleblower, and began a Streisand effect that may cause those paying attention to try to find out exactly what Paul said during his floor speech.

But no worries. I can tell you what he said here.

“My exact question was: are you aware that House intelligence committee staffer Shawn Misko had a close relationship with Eric Ciaramella while at the National Security Council together, and are you aware and how do you respond to reports that Ciaramella and Misko may have worked together to plot impeaching the president before there were formal House impeachment proceedings.”

You can also watch the speech here.

Tech companies have gone far to keep Ciaramella’s name out of the mainstream and well off their platforms, but it’s incredibly difficult when so many people are openly saying his name in relation to the whistleblower controversy. At this point, it’s ridiculous to call this a secret.

More importantly, Paul’s question is one that needs to be answered, and it’s incredibly odd that Paul can’t ask the question of how the impeachment plot got started and name the names of those attached to it. There’s plenty of smoke but Democrats, from the halls of D.C. to Silicon Valley, want to constantly tell us not to mention any nearby fires.
