If Disney Wants to Shed Itself of Woke Pressure, They Need to Do What Red Bull Did

The Disney corporation used to be associated with magic. It was the company you relied on to entertain and teach your child. When it released a movie, it was a worldwide event. People saved up for months to be able to afford to take their children to one of their parks.

Now, people have begun to associate the massive corporation with woke politics and child grooming. Their movies feel less like carefully crafted, excellently written masterpieces and more like off-the-line cookie-cutter creations that are being done better elsewhere.

It’s a sad state of affairs but Disney brought it on itself with its embrace of leftist politics that have poisoned it over the course of years. It’s gotten so bad that when it comes to even the most important of societal values, Disney refuses to act against the radicals that have infested its halls. Its own employees fear the monsters that they work alongside who threaten their livelihoods if they step out of line.

As Jeff Charles wrote on Friday, employees who wish for the company to remain neutral feel they have to share their opinions quietly, and between those who agree for fear that being found out will result in trouble. The Florida bill that protects children from being introduced to sexuality and identity politics (falsely called the “Don’t Say Gay” bill by leftists) is one such topic:

The brouhaha over the proposed legislation, which is still awaiting Gov. Ron DeSantis’ signature, began when Disney employees staged a walkout to criticize CEO Bob Chapek’s hesitancy to condemn the bill. They demanded that the company halt campaign donations to politicians who support the measure and cease all investment in Florida until the bill is rescinded. They also asked Disney to make “substantial contributions” to certain groups and expand its LGBTQ content.

In the letter, employees also cited the difference in how the company treats workers based on their political views. “Employees who want TWDC to make left-wing political statements are encouraged, while those of us who want the company to remain neutral can say so only in a whisper out of fear of professional retaliation,” they wrote. “The company we love seems to think we don’t exist or don’t belong here. This politicization of our corporate culture is damaging morale and causing many of us to feel our days with TWDC might be numbered.”

It’s fair to say that Disney is suffering from a major problem here, but the cure isn’t out of reach. All it has to do is grow a pair.

Their inspiration can be found at Red Bull, the energy drink company, who had its own trouble with woke employees but after some very direct intervention, doesn’t have that problem anymore…at all.

As I wrote back in 2020, some Red Bull execs were attempting to force the company into supporting the Black Lives Matter movement through pressure and a little blackmail.

Red Bull North American chief executive Stefan Kozak and North American president and chief of marketing Amy Taylor were attempting to subversively push the company into supporting BLM by fomenting racial tension within the company and forcing diversity hiring for the company, allowing them to bring in more woke employees.

Then, a letter with 300 signatures from Red Bull employees was “leaked” to the press that contained complaints about Red Bull’s silence on the ongoing Black Lives Matter protests (read riots).

Instead of caving and giving these woke terrorists what they wanted, Red Bull did the opposite of what they were likely expecting. They brought out the guillotines and began lopping off the heads of everyone responsible…figuratively speaking.

Kozak and Taylor, along with Red Bull’s head of global culture marketing, Florian Klaass, had their employment terminated and they were promptly kicked to the curb. Then, Red Bull destroyed its own cultural marketing programs to make it clear that there would be no racially tinged work happening at the company anymore.

To drive the point home even further, Red Bull issued a statement that said no discrimination of any kind was going to happen at their company, even in the form of diversity hiring.

“We reject racism in every form, we always have, and we always will,” said Red Bull’s board. “Red Bull has always put people and their dreams and accomplishments at its core and values the contribution of each and every person – no matter who they are. We want everyone who feels this way to be welcome in Red Bull.”

Red Bull made it clear who was in charge, and it wasn’t the woke terrorists within the company. They’re gone now, and the company hasn’t had to deal with much in terms of political turmoil within the company. Watching people you thought untouchable get led to the chopping block will go a long way in making it clear how things are within a company.

Looking at the predicament Disney is in, it would appear it’s facing a lot of the same problems. A small group of employees making themselves seem like a larger group than they actually are is terrorizing the company and its workers. It’s even forcing the company to release sub-par products with so much focus put on leftist political nonsense that it’s become nigh unwatchable.

If Disney wants to get itself back on track and repair its reputation, it’ll find the leaders of these walkouts and the people issuing these threats of turning the company into a pariah, and the corporation will very loudly terminate their careers and kick them out onto the street. It will then turn to the rest of its employees to make it clear that their politics don’t belong in the House of the Mouse and if they have a problem with that they can find the door and never return through it.

It’ll be a moment that restores confidence in Disney and will make it clear to the woke terrorists that they’re not as powerful as they think they are.
