The Tragic Story of the Titan Submersible Convinced People to Show Their True Colors

The story of the OceanGate submersible “Titan” that was tasked with taking a few rich billionaires down to see the Titanic ended in tragedy, and while that story took up the majority of the public’s attention (as Hunter Biden was getting away with felony charges) the tale spawned a few other stories.

One of those stories is the reaction to the tragic news that people died at the bottom of the ocean. Fox News reported that people were left “sickened” by some of the responses to learning that some white rich men died:

TikToker Ginny Hogan quipped this week, “It’s crazy to think we might only have another 30 hours or so of being able to make fun of the people on the submarine,” referencing the ongoing countdown of how much oxygen the passengers may still have. Memes referencing the blockbuster 1997 disaster movie “Titanic” abounded online on Instagram and other social media sites, as well as jokes about how the vessel was powered by a video game controller.

“Why does it seem hard to feel sorry for the rich people that might die in the submersible?” asked one Reddit thread.

NBC News noted “eat the rich” sentiments abounded, as OceanGate charges up to $250,000 for the journeys to the bottom of the ocean, so the wealth of those aboard contributed to some of the mockery. Stories about the company getting warnings about potential safety issues with its submersible also emerged.

Far-left “The Nation” correspondent and frequent MSNBC guest Elie Mystal quipped, “Next time some rich white person wants to take Sam Alito on an expensive trip, please take him to see the Titanic,” referencing the Supreme Court justice who was the subject of a critical ProPublica report this week.

These were some of the more tame responses in my opinion. Social media is a cesspool and if you’re surprised by the depravity displayed at this point then I have a bridge to sell you.

But while we can lament the fact that such hatred exists, let’s be sure to be thankful for the fact that we can see it. The invention of social media is a two-sided coin. For one, it amplifies the hatred people feel about something and creates groups built on that mutual hatred. This isn’t always a bad thing. I would argue social media has given conservatives the ability to unite and organize in ways the left only wish they could. I’m not entirely sure the Bud Light or Target boycotts would have worked as well as they did if it wasn’t for a fair social media platform like Twitter.

As a quick aside, it makes you wonder how many more boycotts would have happened earlier in our recent history if Twitter actually functioned the way it does today, but I digress.

But it also gives unwarranted hatred the same chance to thrive. While it seems like a bad thing on its surface, I’m grateful that I can see it. Mobs built on hatred existed long before the first person ever heard the grinding noise of a dial-up modem. Thanks to social media, they now make themselves available for you to see them.

Social media gives people the chance to be openly hateful in safety. They can’t wait to tell you how they love the suffering that’s happening to innocent people they don’t like because of their skin color, class status, bank account, or job. They’ll post videos of themselves telling you how much they love the death of people who didn’t deserve it and tweet about it for the public to see.

And to that, I say “Good.”

I want to see these people expose their minds to us. I want them to show the public just how ridiculous they are and give people an understanding of the kind of person who would feel these kinds of things. I want the public to be able to know their enemy and see that these people aren’t just normal people like you and me. These are demented idiots trying and failing to pass themselves off as one of the crowd.

History is full of instances where extremists and weirdos convinced the masses that their behavior was normal thanks, in part, to cleverly hiding who they actually were.

Take the perverted professor, Alfred Kinsey, for instance. Kinsey is known as the father of the sexual revolution and what he proposed was “scientific research” that revealed that people were actually far dirtier than they were letting on. During the 1940s, Kinsey decided he wanted to study sex “scientifically” to see what people’s sexual proclivities actually were in such a conservative era. In order to gather his data, he spoke to criminals, homosexuals, prostitutes, and more, then took that data and published a couple of books known as the “Kinsey Reports” which include the 1948 Sexual Behavior in the Human Male.

Within it, he declared that “the major portion” of men have had a homosexual experience in their lifetime and that “60 percent” of teenage boys take part in homosexual activities. He also concluded that “nearly all the so-called sexual perversions fall within the range of biological normality.” Kinsey also concluded that “there are only three kinds of sexual abnormalities: abstinence, celibacy, and delayed marriage.”

Kinsey’s “research” was denounced, not just by religious figures but by statisticians who looked at his methods and determined the conclusions to be incredibly “biased.” Bias wasn’t the half of it. Kinsey was a world-class pervert who pressured colleagues and his own students to have sex with him and each other, and he would film it all. His own assistant was in a sexual relationship with Kinsey’s wife. He even experimented sexually on children as young as five months.

This evil man posing as a scientist would eventually set the stage for the sexual revolution of the 60s which would evolve into the situation we have today, including the LGBT activist community’s push into normalizing perversion in our culture.

It makes you wonder if things would have been different if social media was around back then. Kinsey would have been exposed by good people fighting back against his kind of perversion. They would have been able to understand that Kinsey was a disturbed individual, not a scientist. When the sexual revolution attempted to get off the ground in the 60s, the people would have had the means to fight back against it far more effectively and perhaps our social landscape wouldn’t look so disgusting as it does today.

This behavior from people isn’t normal and while it’s awful to see that people think this way, it’s good to see that people who are truly hateful aren’t just regular people. They’re disturbed, ignorant, and idiotic.

Free speech, and the ability to amplify it, really is a great thing.
