Welcome to The Vine, where every week I strive to bring you updates from around the pro-life community to help you keep up with the ever constant battle to save lives. If you aren’t plugged-in, it is my sincere hope that The Vine will allow you to get familiar with those on the front lines and find your place among them.

Hello from Texas! Please forgive my absence as we made our big move, I’m happy to be back with y’all 🙂 I wish I could report that the abortion industry was quiet while I moved, but of course evil never rests. While friends and families gathered to celebrate Labor Day (and we unpacked), taxpayer-funded PBS took the opportunity to promote late-term abortionist by airing, “After Tiller.” The pro-abortion film follows four late-term abortionists and seeks to create empathy for the hard work they do killing babies. As expected, the film leaves out the details that would reveal the truth about abortion and the men and women who perform them. Not only does the film not show a late-term abortion procedure and/or what it entails, it excludes the perspective of the many women who have been injured by them. Operation Rescue recounts the heart-breaking stories of girls and women who suffered at the hands of late-term abortionist George Tiller, for whom the film was named. In at least one case, a fourteen year old girl was made to sit on a toilet to give birth to her aborted baby. As for the “doctors” highlighted in the film, Live Action News has put together a fact sheet of information conveniently left out of the film. PBS and “After Tiller” may try to humanize abortion but the reality is so obvious even a late-term abortion clinic owner had to admit, “Am I killing? Yes, I am. I know that.”

Interestingly, while “After Tiller” attempts to hide the truth about late-term abortion, pro-aborts are themselves revealing the truth behind the oft-quoted lie of wanting abortion to be “safe, legal and rare.” As Dustin Siggins covers at Life Site News, a new Texas law requiring abortion clinics in the state to upgrade their health standards has been overturned by a judge who felt it was unconstitutional. So while abortion clinics are unprepared for the potentially deadly results of the procedures they perform, to expect them to work with hospitals who can help the women they have injured is asking too much. Clinics previously closed due to their poor health standards have already begun re-opening and scheduling appointments as a result of the ruling. If nothing else, the situation in Texas reveals that abortion supporters may be able to keep abortion legal, but they certainly cannot claim they care to keep it safe and rare.

Among the other facts hidden from the public, one can assume women are not informed by abortion clinics of their lower health standards, which is another reason why it is so important for the pro-life community to get the truth out. For students, chalking is a creative way to spread the word on and off campus. Students For Life of America (SFLA) is providing students a kit this month for free that includes a box of chalk to help them get going. SFLA is also offering a Pro-Life Chalk it Up Contest. Sometimes a picture or a word is all that is needed to save a life.

Being well aware of the “danger” truth presents to their business, Planned Parenthood is careful to hide pictures and words that may show women they have choices beyond abortion. In Iowa, Planned Parenthood even constructed a high wall in an effort to hide the pregnancy care center located next door. Fortunately, as Jill Stanek’s site shows, the pregnancy care center rose above:

Of all the truths the abortion industry tries to hide, the most important one is the worth of each pre-born child. The illogical idea that children conceived in rape should be aborted is one of the most heinous of their lies. Pro-life advocate Rebecca Kiessling is living proof that conception doesn’t change God’s intentions. Kiessling, who’s mother tried to abort her twice after conceiving her through rape, travels the country providing hope to women in her and her mother’s position. She also helps others to put a beautiful face on a difficult situation. This week’s Branch for Life goes to Kiessling for the inspiring and life saving work she does in the pro-life movement.

Finally, this Saturday, the 13th, will be the second annual National Day of Remembrance for Aborted Children. Prayer vigils will be taking place at gravesites  and memorials across the nation. Volunteers are still needed, please find a location convenient to you here.
