How Low Can He Go?

Carnahan Slashes Prices on Obama Fundraiser

Via Jim Geraghty, we get this delightful story of a Barack Obama fundraising event that sounds more like a Cippers game than an appearance by the Commander in Chief:

Pres. Obama is the best fundraiser the Dem Party has, but his drawing power is way down from its peak during the ’08 campaign.

Obama is heading to MO and NV today to raise money for Sec/State Robin Carnahan (D), running for an open Senate seat, and Senate Maj. Leader Harry Reid.

But Carnahan’s campaign wasn’t able to completely sell out the Folly Theater, where Obama will appear for a grassroots event on Carnahan’s behalf, at the prices they wanted. Tickets once priced at $250 are now going for $99, while $35 tickets are half off.

We already knew that President Obama’s approval ratings would make him more of a liability than a benefit to Democrat candidates on the campaign trail. But up until now at least, it was generally assumed that he could raise money for targeted races. Apparently even that magic is gone. I’m curious to hear what scalpers are getting for their bargain-bin remainders.

Exit question: what’s the appropriate obscure ’80s movie reference for this tale: ‘I’ve been kidnapped by KMart,’ or ‘his appeal is becoming more selective?’

We (mistakenly) got an invitation to pay up and listen to BOzo and his cohorts. I sent back an empty reply envelope with no return address.

    • Adjoran

Strap the Business Reply envelope to a brick with clear packaging tape. The recipient is charged by weight – never send back an empty envelope if you really want to make a point!

      • taxmaiden

By golly, I’m going to have to remember that; thanks!

          great idea!

          bastids.

      • Locked and Loaded

Remove your name from the material they want you to send back, tear it to pieces, place it all in the envelope (with anything else you want to fit in), and then mail it back. My kind of recycling.

First, the American Idol summer tour cancels shows due to weak ticket sales and now The One can’t sell out a $35 a plate fundraiser.

Maybe they should try booking that Palin woman next time. I hear she sells a lotta tickets.

Discretionary income is vanishing. People are really having to cut back. And the dollars they do have, worth less than a year ago. They can tough out 6 months, but not 13, or 18, or 24. The mortgage/rent, or the Bamster’s party. If you’re sane, that decision is taking less than a nanosecond.

Saw three vintage-70s Corvettes for sale within the last few days, “For Sale” sign in the window, parked near the street….

Haven’t noticed more RVs or boats, suspect they won’t go on the market until after the summer’s over… one last trip, eh?

        • acat

Brisk business in “For Sale” signs as people have to decide between keeping their toys and keeping food on the table and a roof overhead.

Arizona has, in two days, gathered over $500,000.00 for it’s defense against the Government.

So, although cash strapped is a good way to look at it.

Perhaps it is just “The People”, you know, the little guys, expressing an opinion.

Obama is heading to MO and NV today to raise money for Sec/State Robin Carnahan (D), running for an open Senate seat, and Senate Maj. Leader Harry Reid.

It worked wonders for Jon Corzine, Martha Coakley and Creigh Deeds

Hopefully he will campaign for Barbara Boxer and Charlie Crist too.

    • Tony_Cruz

and maybe Feingold and Jerry Brown!

Everyday that passes I get even more excited for November. I’ve already organized a 3 TV watch party at my university for all the Republicans on campus. SOO good!

if they had a chance back then?

They could offer $.50 tickets and we still wouldn’t go.

    Not even for “history.”

  • Tbone

    with every ticket?

Or, maybe they should have billed him as “Barry and the Prompters”

    • joecollins

Barry can’t fill 1087 seats? Mmmmm Mmmmm Mmmmm.

    • cboullear

Probably the smallest venue in the Kansas City area. HaHaHa.

I linked to the article later, but that information had been removed from the article……

    • realskinny

They’ve lied about his crowds before.

      • cboullear

The people who might have wanted to see him couldn’t afford it. And the people who could afford it are REALLY P.O.’d at him. If you get out of the ‘economically disadvantaged” areas in KC, Obama is universally hated.

Written by small employer who isn’t going to hire one d*&m person until I know how badly the Marxist’s rules and reg’s are going to hurt me.

the Chppendale’s. After a few drinks the money would have really flowed in. But oooooh noooo, she had to get the one and only B.O. with his “yes we did” speech proclaiming the success of the stimulus and obamahcare . Not saying it would have been healthy or wholesome, rather…know your audience! Nice one Carnahan.

the 10,000-30,000 dollars a plate. All they need is these wall street fundraisers and the little ones are not needed. Oh wait, the wall street donors are holding back too. So he may just have to tap Center of American Progress and Soros, all will be good.

  • http://pocketchangeproductions.net/ anotherindyfilmguy

Towards the end of the last presedential election he could not draw much in the way of crowds… the media fell over itself to ignore that Palin was drawing huge crowds while the dem main candidate was occasionally drawing like six people here and there unless the event was astroturfed…

  • http://erickbrockway.wordpress.com/ Erick Brockway

Well that’s the problem. Couldn’t be him.

Or those coins hawked by Montel Williams with a sticker on them that doesn’t even stick? But wait, there’s more! If you call before November 2nd….

What an investment! There goes the kids’ college education fund.

Starting at 99 cents! (Brand New, in the box!)

  • Adjoran

The BIG news here is that Carnahan is apparently actually going to show up for Obama’s visit this time – she’s always been too busy in the past to catch up to the President when he visited her home state.

I hope they get a lot of nice pictures of them together – smiling, hugging, laughing together.

It will be so sweet, you know.

    • alamo294

The Fox channel (not cable) in St. Louis covered the foolish follies with a nice, long story last night. No hugs and kisses were shown, and there were no shots of the two on the platform at the same time. Odd.

The report pointed out that Air Force One was in the air less than 30 minutes after the follies. Odd.

The prices per plate are encouraging, given the nasty ads Robin has been running.

      • realskinny

She must have been 10 feet behind him..

    Our half off president.

Who at a whim gets hacked off at the slightest whiff of criticism.

BTW—-I see Hate Whitey Half Lady Mickey-O is heading to the Gulf to see the devastation her hubby (for now) is causing.

But the Dem controlled Con-greases would not allow other members of Congress to go see what Odingo has wrought.

God-willing, the Blago trial will ensnare Odingo and we can be rid of the disease known as Obamaism.

  • sparkyva

Wow, just when you think it is going to get worse, we finally get some solid economic news that is good, no GREAT. They are discounting Obama because his brand is not selling any more. The heck with polls! You never know how honest they really are, and politicians will do anything to get a positive spin. But can’t sell tickets to an event? People aren’t willing to part with their money to support a friend of the ONE who will stop the rise of oceans, and change the way things are done in Washington? To quote a disappointed Democrat, John Carville: ITS THE ECONOMY STUPID.

  • stephaniet

Well, actually, it’s a lot of words smushed into an acronym: OMGWTFROFLMAO.

    There.
