Nikki Haley thanks the RedState Gathering

Nikki Haley, the Republican nominee for Governor of South Carolina, spoke to the RedState Gathering in Austin, Texas.  Haley also spoke at last years RedState Gathering in Atlanta, Georgia.

Haley thanked the Gathering for the support she received from RedStaters last year before hardly anyone thought she had a chance to win the gubernatorial nomination:

You were with me when I was Nikki Who?

Now she leads her Democrat opponent by 16 points, 52% to 36%.

Not only is she very popular in the state right now – only DeMint might be moreso – but her opponent looks like he’s about 16, and his main campaign theme is his record of opposing Governor Mark Sanford.

Problem is, Sanford may have lost a lot of respect for his personal behavior with the Argentinian mistress scandal, but South Carolinians still support his reform agenda – even though our corrupt state legislature has thwarted it at almost every turn. So Shaheen is running against the will of the people as well as against a very popular candidate with the mystique of the 4th place underdog who comes from behind to win her primary, and in a very Republican state in a very Republican year.

You never take any race for granted, but if she doesn’t win by 15, it will be a shock.
