67% disapprove of legislators fleeing Wisconsin to avoid vote

Two-thirds of likely voters disapprove of Wisconsin legislators fleeing the state to avoid their duty to vote.

New Rasmussen Reports polling finds America’s voters strongly oppose Wisconsin state senators fleebagging tactics to avoid a vote that would restrict collective bargaining rights for government workers’ unions.

Only 25% of likely U.S. Voters approve of this failed 2003-vintage Democrat tactic.

Sizable majorities of Republicans and Independents reject legislators shirking their duty in this obstructionist manner. But Democrats are divided, with 48% approving and 44% disapproving.

Based on Zogby’s “Red State/Blue State/Green State” poll, Brad O’Leary argues that Wisconsin and Indiana union protests could spell trouble for Democrats:

The union riots in Wisconsin and Indiana might be good business for the likes of Jesse Jackson, but should the unions prevail, it would almost certainly spell trouble for Democrats in the next election cycle.

This is further evidence of why the Obama regime tried to claim it did not encourage the massive union protests as Obama’s leadership rating fell to a record low.

And that legislation should have the Governor appoint a temporary replacement for that vacancy until a special election is held.

That will force the Democrat legislators to stop their obstructionist tactics.

If not that, the recall is moving along. Yes!

Groups officially begin recall process for seven lawmakers

for a year before you can be recalled in WI.

If I was Walker I would change that and ram through all sorts of things on the agenda .

      • cacharlie

Hopefully Gov. Walker heard Krauthammer’s advice to test whether he can legislate yearly union elections out of the fiscal boundaries that require the Dems to come home. That would be really cool and encouragement for others to just keep smarter so we can stop this stupidity sooner.

      • themarathonman

…but that is from the date the pol FIRST TOOK OFFICE. If s/he is in his/her second term, they can be recalled immediately. This should impact the majority of dem State Senators in WI.

I hope this message gets out to the private industry workers of America.

What would happen to the average American if they left their job to hide out to protest some company policy?

What average American can relate to getting benefits as a right, rather than earning them?

I hope our side uses this often.

  • edwyrd

and he has been doing the dirty work too.
so why are all those “other” republicans so damn spineless?

…we need to factor in a candidate’s moral courage. Most politicians lack it. They hate a nasty fight–with unions in particular. Most want victories on the cheap without the risk of getting bloodied. Christie and Walker are showing how it’s done. We’re in a civil war. That’s the only way to appreciate what’s really going on across America. The statists oppose small government, American exceptionalism, traditional morals, and control of our borders. There’s no way we can accept their agenda. They have been in our face for decades. They want to destroy our way of life–there’s no other way to put it. So we need to fight to the finish on every front–which means politicians must risk getting bloodied–like Sarah, like Christie, like Walker.

Yes let’s talk about Walkers character. Let’s see he and his staff considered sending in thugs to disrupt the peaceful demonstrations that people have the right to do whether you agree with their position or not. It’s called freedom of speech. But Walker instead of saying no to that it is morally wrong to send in people to cause violence in a protest, says no let’s not do it because it might draw attention to it and he might be compelled to compromise.

Then he tells how he planned to lie to the democrats to fool them into returning and having a vote while they are in “talks” with him to negotiate. Then he lastly agrees to go on a trip to California paid for by a billionaire that is planning on buying the states powerplants without any open bids.

Yes those are some great characteristics in a governor.

Usually our trolls try to be a bit more subtle

Changing the subject I don’t know if you noticed it or not but you are apparently lost. This is a conservative site, you obviously think you’re at dKos or HuffPo.

Let me point you in that direction.

        • Darin_H

Troll better next time. It’s like he had never been asked to form a coherent argument in his life.

        • donnybrooke

?The power plant assertion is one more example of many baseless falsehoods and speculation made by a vested interest that gets picked up and repeated over and over in the media,? said a statement from Philip Ellender, president of government and public affairs for Koch Cos. Public Sector LLC. ?We have no interest in purchasing any of the state owned power plants in Wisconsin and any allegations to the contrary are completely false.?

          -Bob King, Politico-

Not sure what this has to do with Union Pensions… but neither does the Left. They just hope no one will check their statements.

        • writeblock

Are you calling unionized police thugs? Really? I could only wish he’d do it. But Walker’s too nice a guy.

        • cam1

are you paid up on your union dues?

      • nick2000

Is he showing courage? Yes, definitely because this might seriously jeopardize his chances at reelection. He is sticking to his guns.

I rather doubt whether this is moral or not. Hiding things in a finance bill is not quite honest. It is one thing to say what you are going to do and then stick to your guns and do it. It is another thing to try to insert things in a finance bill that are unrelated.

By the way, he did not even claim to defending moral values in his current crisis (nor attacking them by the way). This is all about finances, or how to bring the states budget back under control. I assume that his strong armed tactics work since the unions have accepted all cuts. They are just not accepting to be dismantled.

        • writeblock

if his show of courage is considered moral or immoral. That’s irrelevant because his kind of frontal assault is what the country most needs right now. If he was clever or crafty or less than open–doesn’t matter, as long as it was legal, That said, I doubt what you’re saying is true. Walker seems like a pretty straight shooter to me and there’s absolutely no evidence to the contrary. If there were, it would have been exploited by the media quicker than you can say “union-buster”. But even if he were being cute about his purpose as you imply–so what? We’re in a war. And when you fight in a war, your object is to destroy the opposition first and foremost–and that’s what this is all about. So I applaud him for doing this by any legal means necessary–because statists so obviously want to destroy the principles on which this country was founded. And that’s just not tolerable any longer.

          • edwyrd

walker could have presented the collective bargaining repeal separately. then the republicans could have passed it without a quorum. would that have been of greater moral terpitude?

as a consequence of his “dishonesty”, the bill languishes, and has become a national target for obamas’ machine.
and, at the same time, a thread of hope for america.
this event has codified the debate. it is a political gettysburg.

            pray for our side!

Depending on the rules of the particular legislature, bills which alter the particular government’s finances are required to be brought up in a “finance bill”. Since the package that Walker is proposing included significant changes in the WI budget, it was a “finance bill”. Yes, he could have split up the bill into multiple bills, some being finance bills and others not. Doing so would be seen by even more people as “hiding” his proposals in a plethora of bills.

In all, I don’t recollect any details of the package being hidden from either the Legislature, or the public. If everyone knows about it, then it apparently wasn’t hidden.

As libhawk and I discussed in the Daniels “surrender” diarie…… the dem fleebaggers are doing us a favor – especially in IN (because of Daniels adult behavior)
This has not played all the way out yet…….. but it looks very promising. :-)

You ran FOR office, not FROM office!

And then there’s that wonderful fleebaggers … best one I’ve heard in ages!

It’s called a no call, no show.

    • http://www.gopmall.com janesmoote

That’s what my thought was. We should all be able to show up when we want to or not show when we don’t want to for work. Screw this thing called the economy.

Sarah Palin gave a formal goodbye and handed over the reigns.

  • izoneguy

    In the next elections.

Time to destroy the democrats and the unions in one fell swoop…..

  • jmt1984

They were elected to do a job, and the voters in Nov. knew what they were asking for…this is bad both ways.

  • harlan

…because the remaining 33% in this country have sold their souls for a government check.

    They are lost.

  • earlgrey

THat was supposed to put more pressure on the democrat “fleebagging freeloaders”.

Is the reason Walker doesn’t watn to decouple the collective bargaining from the budget bill is to avoid a leagl action. By marryiing the collective bargaining to a budget bill it would be harder to place an injunction or overturn in the courts?

    • nepanyrush

and they passed the bill and I caught a glimpse of Democrats screaming in unison “Shame” at the lawmakers as the Dems repeatedly thrust their arms toward them threateningly.

Honesty, it seems like the Republican lawmakers were the only adults in the room and the others were these immature bullies, upset they could not get their way. It reminded me of a political event that I went to where “ACT-UP,” the aids activists group, that had accosted people in a Catholic church, were shouting “Shame” at the Republicans without understanding how ironic it was that they were shouting shame.

As a person who gives 10% of his gross salary to the local school district because of the high property tax combined with an income tax, I am tired of paying for other people’s pensions and health care when I don’t have either myself. It is the public workers who should be ashamed for continually taking the money of the public and not treating that public money with the sanctity it should be treated.

      • earlgrey

I read about it some. Do they have a zoo in Wisconsin? Maybe they could have some of the handlers work security at the capital? I know there would be additional cost there, but it seems appropriate.

        • myron_j_poltroonian

You just brought back a memory from the ’60′s. We held an audition for drummers at a club called the Paradox, in Orange County and the one who won sang a song called: “Don’t Eat the Monkey’s Banana’s – Sport”. It was from the point of view of the zookeeper, since if the monkeys didn’t eat all of their food, they wouldn’t create enough of the “end product” that kept him busily employed. Thank you.

if the Repubs did this next time the Donks had the majority and they were trying to pass legislation.

we don’t like whiners and we don’t like people who don’t stand up and fight on a legal basis to our democracy

by the way I see a Wisconsin Dem was just arrested the other day for sexual misconduct but is not resigning so I guess all those liberal groups raising money for Wisconsin Democrat Party must have no problem with man doing things sexually inappropriately.

        a resume enhancer.

If you have no moral basis for your life, then nothing is inappropriate behavior. They don’t care what they do as long as they win.

a third of American voters support their elected representatives running away to keep themselves in the pay of their thuggish unionist paymasters. Sickens you, doesn’t it?

Then tell the fleebaggers unless they come back it will pass the senate.
This way the compromise that Walker can offer is not to pass Right to Work if the fleebaggers return so the more moderate bill can pass

  • lizaz

of likely Wisconsin voters to see how they feel about the senators who don’t want to do their job. It could be these lawmakers are sealing their own fate while they hide in IL. I’d also like to see more publicity about the union insurance forced on members, not allowing the government to search for the best price for employee medical insurance and saving the taxpayers money. I’ve see where the union is getting rich on this insurance on the backs of the WI taxpayer. We need more info out on this situation, which is one of the issues Gov. Walker is trying to change by limiting collective bargaining. I think maybe a lot of people aren’t aware of practice.
