Glenn Beck Did Not Tell His Audience To Shoot Anybody

Some People Will Believe Anything

Patterico notes a meme being rapidly spread by left-wing bloggers: that Glenn Beck told his viewers to shoot Democratic Members of Congress in the head. This is, sadly, the kind of thing the left-blogs try to put over on their readers, hoping it will stick quickly before the facts can come out. But I would not advise doing that while the likes of Patterico are on the case.

Here’s the actual transcript that Patterico links to, and as you can see, you’d need to be illiterate to fall for the spin being put on this. After a lengthy diatribe about the growing danger to Democrats posed by hard-core radicals and Communists in their own coalition, Beck concludes:

Tea parties believe in small government. We believe in returning to the principles of our Founding Fathers. We respect them. We revere them. Shoot me in the head before I stop talking about the Founders. Shoot me in the head if you try to change our government.

I will stand against you and so will millions of others. We believe in something. You in the media and most in Washington don’t. The radicals that you and Washington have co-opted and brought in wearing sheep’s clothing – change the pose. You will get the ends.

You’ve been using them? They believe in communism. They believe and have called for a revolution. You’re going to have to shoot them in the head. But warning, they may shoot you.

They are dangerous because they believe. Karl Marx is their George Washington. You will never change their mind. And if they feel you have lied to them – they’re revolutionaries. Nancy Pelosi, those are the people you should be worried about.

Here is my advice when you’re dealing with people who believe in something that strongly – you take them seriously. You listen to their words and you believe that they will follow up with what they say.

Didn’t we learn that lesson from Usama bin Laden? I heard his warning in 1998. I said on the air at the time, listen to him. We didn’t listen. We didn’t listen to the revolutionaries in Germany, the revolutionaries in Russia or Venezuela or Cuba – no, no, no. They all have one thing in common. They have all called for revolution.

They want to overthrow our entire system of government, and their words say it. Why won’t you believe it?

Now, you may argue that Beck is being alarmist here with regard to the notion that domestic left-wing radicals are really all that likely to assassinate Nancy Pelosi, but that’s not the argument that’s being made; the argument being made is that Beck said something completely and totally different from what he was actually talking about. The “you” he is talking to is the Democratic leadership in Congress.

I’m almost embarrassed for anybody gullible enough that they fell for this one.

It’s simply unconscionable that nearly two generations of our most valuable national treasure are mindless victims of our failed government schools.

If not for the strong bonds of a great many American families and an unwaivering faith in God, the progressives would have completed their fundamental transformation already.

    • gumbeaux

We let the government schools do it! The warnings were not heeded. This is what you get if you don’t keep an eye on what is going on in the kitchen at a party.

      • Batman

It follows that the above timeline you mention also goes to the part where prayer was removed from public schools. I think that’s when the decline actually started….

        • http://westforwestwing2012.com heartlander

          – but it turns out that, yes, you are absolutely right.

And as we now know, that atheist takeover of the schools was one of the big steps — set out several decades earlier by the Frankfurt School — in the overall takeover.

And Glenn Beck is absolutely right that if the Marxists can’t get their way without violence, they have no moral compunctions against guns and bombs. Remember who Obama’s closest ally in Chicago was: the co-founder of the Weather Underground.

      • eburkedisciple

It is time to recognize that Parents must be given freedom to choose the schools their children attend and take their tax dollars with them! Non-government schools are more efficient and do a better job and should be an option to any family that wants them. Our children will get a better education. Our schools will improve since they will have to get rid of the dead weight teachers who do not perform. And we will save money as a nation while competing better in the world market.

Slam dunk – except for the NEA and the politicians who don’t give a rip about our children but only their own pocketbooks.

        • tex41lb

Google New Jersey’ s state of the union address. Christy speaks to school choice and makes it clear he intends to do all in his power to it available.

This is where We, Americans need to take a stand and be vocal for what is right in America. As Christians we have been “the silent majority” way too long! Now we must become the Vocal Majority, so that we can be heard above the rhetoric of the liberals. Our Society has gotten so out of hand, while liberals are worried about Glenn Beck speaking the truth, why think its OK for MTV to introduce a new show with teen actors involve in teen sex, drugs, “anything goes” on their program. Its sponsored by Taco Bell!! We can Not remain silent anymore. We must stand up against anything or anyone who is trying to bring our country down. Act now and show what you believe in, and hen spread that message with everyone, Remember, God expects us to stand up for him!! Go to: http://www.PatrioticChristiansToday.com and join with good American people in 25 states who are wearing their message on their wrist. Let’s make it all 50! Remember, if you are not part of the solution, you are part of the problem!!

  • earlgrey

I think that is expecially the case with “the youth vote”. They have sat in indoctrination rooms absorbing for years. THey think they are smart, but because they have never had to do anything or solve a problem they really don’t know how to look at things.

I think that is how the whole sub-prime mortgage mess got so out of control. People weren’t thinking.

People just don’t think or problem sovle anymore. They just complain and whine and sit on their bottoms watching them expand like a helium balloon.

OK, I went a little over the top there, but yes, people will listen to this because they want too.

    • boxedquad

When 79 % are waiting for the GOVT. TO DO SOMETHING AND ONLY 14% WILL do for themselves. How sad that they absorbed only the idea that they will be taken care of. “like giveme some Obama Money” …you all heard that line and you heard JFK speech 50 years ago.

  • aesthete

but doesn’t he also habitually beg his audience *not* to do anything violent? Guess that’s just super secret code or something that only leftists can understand.

    • earlgrey

I have heard about 10-15 minutes of his radio show from time to time, and he does do that.

  • Adjoran

We really need to study the long-term health effects of habitually sniffing your own bicycle seat.

  • dabeall

The Left is losing their grip on power. They feel it. They see it.

The Left is resorting to such fact-twisting because this is all they have left … lies.

The Left would be well-advised to heed Glenn’s admonition. A civic day of reckoning is at hand, and the Left will be held to account — by peaceful means, which frustrates them to no end.

    • rbdwiggins

It’s all they’ve ever had, because liberalism/progressivism has always been a lie. To tell the truth would expose the fraud and hasten the end of the Democratic Party’s political viability.

    • rickbull

“I did not have sex with that woman.”
      “I did not inhale.”
      “Bush lied.”
      “9/11 was an inside job.”
      “Bush’s policies created the recession.”
      “Change you can believe in.”
“If you like your insurance, you can keep it.”
      “Blood for oil.”
      “Petraeus betray us!”
      “Tax cuts for the rich.”
What makes anyone think they are going to change their feathers now?

  • http://www.plumbbobblog.com Plumb_Bob

As much as I despise lefty bloggers, this has nothing to do with them. This is Charles Johnson, one of the truly sad stories in the history of blogging. Johnson was the man who produced the evidence that the Bush National Guard memo was a forgery. He was once a great light in conservative blogdom. Then he lost his mind. Not just “became a leftie.” Lost. His. Mind. Johnson is insane.

So, just like Jared Loughner was a lone, troubled youth committing an insane crime, so now Charles Johnson is the lone, troubled blogger doing what lonely, insane bloggers do.

Mothers, tell your children, not to do what I have done… oh, wait, that’s a different subject…

    • Dan McLaughlin

Among other things, this story ran on the front page of Daily Kos.

  • Josh Painter

Beck’s choice of words in this case made it easier for them. Don’t give them the metaphorical stick to hit us over our metaphorical heads, Everything a conservative, right libertarian, and/or Christian says is going to be scanned by the left with a metaphorical electron microscope to be used against us.

I love what Beck has done in exposing the Marxist underbelly of the American left, but he’s a smart guy. He had to know before he said what he did how his enemies would twist it and throw it back at him.

When Beck directs his pointer to the words of the progressives, he gives the authors the respect they deserve, as authors. He presents their thoughts in complete statements, not in truncated clips which are used to change the meaning of the words. This generally makes it difficult, if not impossible, to nullify his arguments with a simple presentation of the facts.

I’m glad he’s on our side.

  • mspector

As it is sometimes his wont to do, but that’s Glenn. However, he would never call on anybody to commit any kind of act of violence against anyone else. He is pacifistic (not in the sense of being against war, but in the sense of hating the idea of settling things with violence generally) and gentle.

On the other hand, I’m glad he used those words. Somebody needed to start breaking through this false “civility” being touted these days, and props to Glenn for having the courage to do it.

  • boxedquad

I watch him with some regularly but, some times he is just too preaching to the choir. I don’t dislike him when he does, but sometimes it just goes on and on till his point is made.
Most of the time he does follow though with his “message” of the day or week, as the case may be.

Getting teary eyed does not suit me, being a source and siting references is good, it is hard to argue against facts. He does in most cases illustrate a lot of subjects quite well. You Nay Sayers, should watch and do your own thinking about his subject. Same goes for listening to Rush Limbaugh, make up your own mind, act like you have one that is working. Do not be a patsy for the Demigods.

    • acat

more than once, in fact. Can’t do it. I disagree with his presentation – far, far too over the top with the emotional appeals – although I agree with quite a bit of what he has to say.

I’m not knocking Beck or his fans, but .. he’s not for everybody.

His radio show is completely different and usually very funny.

Call me what you will, I prefer WILD EYED RADICAL. A Rush guy, a Laura lover, Depending on schedules where I am, Praeger, Medved,, Gallagher, Reagan,— Get the picture, I don’t like Rap. I even once listened to Franken by accident for a full minute. In the years since Rush has been on I have, dozens of times, been a listener to whatever CRIME committed, never once has the quote come close to what was said. Interpolate, extrapolate, big words for we radicals but I wouldn’t need to listen to Beck to set off my CommieCrapAlarm. As for Beck, I get annoyed every time he proves to be correct and I have been annoyed a lot lately. I guess there really are conspiracies and we radicals need to brush up on our second amendment skill—
    OR Repeal the Nineteenth!!!

If any one of you doubt what the left, the RINO’s and Statists in general have in store for our God given rights, as protected by “The Contract Of America”, a.k.a. The Constitution Of The United States Of America”, read this: “Consequence Management Response Force” and “Non-Traditional Missions” According to the McAlvany Intelligence Advisor, on July 7, 1994, Larry Pratt, Director of Gun Owners of America, sent the following memo to Don McAlvany: “An actual copy of the questionnaire being administered on a Marine Base in 29 Palms, Ca. has come into our possession. It asks soldiers if they would obey U.N. officers and if they would confiscate firearms from American citizens and shoot those who resist. The latter point is corroborated by several Navy Seals who have personally reported that they have been asked the same questions. Congressman Bob Dornan has been asked to, and is considering launching a full scale investigation into the government using American (or U.N.) troops to disarm civilians.”

Under the heading, “Combat Arms Survey,” the questionnaire stated: “This questionnaire is to gather data concerning the attitudes of combat trained personnel with regards to non-traditional missions.” Two of the questions asked are:

    (1) I would swear to the following code: ‘I am a United Nations fighting person. I serve in the forces which maintain world peace and every nation’s way of life, I am prepared to give my life in their defense.’

    (2) The United States government declares a ban on the possession, sale, transportation, and transfer of all non-sporting firearms. A thirty (30) day amnesty period is permitted for these firearms to be turned over to the local authorities. At the end of this period, a number of citizen groups refuse to turn over their firearms. Consider the following statement:

`I would fire upon U.S. citizens who refuse or resist confiscation of firearms banned by the U.S. government.’

A press release from the Navy says, “The survey is an academic endeavor and does not reflect any government program, policy or initiative.” Sure and the earth is also flat, just ask the Navy.

it didn’t start to reload, so I thought it really didn’t go through the first time, so I added one word and reposted. Remember: “Repeat after me, Computers are our friends. Keep repeating until you actually believe. Ohmmm … .”

I like Beck. I like Beck’s fact based conclusion followed by a challenge to not just believe him but read his sources to verify the facts applied in reaching the conclusion.

You may not follow Beck. I can understand why as he wears one’s patience with repetition. The world without Beck or more to the point I am trying to make, a world without Beck’s right to speak, would be a world far worse were he to be silenced.

The left cares not, he threatens their agenda and every effort must be made to get him off the air.

Even the strongest non-Beck follower in the conservative Red State world be in error to be so critical of what Beck has to say that support is given to his voice being silenced.

What I observe in reading comments about Beck Rush etc, is a careful distancing of some reader’s from Beck in their qualified reasons for not watching or listening to his program, as if to distance themselves from any possible contamination.

Much like the republican side of the isle not confronting democrats, for fear they will not be seen as cooperative and thus be tainted too conservative.

Even qualified reasons for being critical offer powder to leftist guns aimed at controlling free speech.
