Obama’s Middle Class Tax Hikes

While Obama is prosecuting a flaccid war overseas and apologizing for our troops when they defend against Taliban attacks, he is fighting a no-holds-barred class war at home.  Once again, Obama has announced that he will orchestrate the largest tax hike in American history on those earning more than $200,000.  After all, taxing the rich is a great way to raise revenue; it worked so well in Maryland.  Oh, wait.

But fear not, he will renew the Bush tax cuts on those earning under $200,000, while repackaging them as his own tax cuts.

There’s one problem with Obama’s assertion that he hasn’t raised taxes on the middle class.  YOU LIE!  Government regulations and interventions that Obama supports will raise the cost of living on the middle class for the most vital goods and services.  Those higher costs will trump any savings they actualize as a result of the tax cut extension.  Oh, and there’s one other problem.  He’s forgetting about the massive tax increase on all those who don’t purchase government-approved health insurance.

In that vein, let’s review some of the hidden [or not so hidden] tax increases on the “middle class” that Obama has orchestrated:

  • Healthcare: Due to Obama’s war on free-market healthcare, all those who fail to buy Obama-approved health insurance will be subject to a tax.  All those who purchase health insurance will have to pay several thousand dollars more in premiums as a result of Obamacare.  Every American who purchases a medical device – from a wheelchair to a dental crown – will pay much more due to the Obamacare tax on medical devices.  Some Americans who earn less than $200,000 receive what Obama refers to as “Cadillac insurance plans.”  They will be slapped with a 40% excise tax. [view the 17 tax increases embedded in Obamacare here]
  • Electricity: Due to Obama’s war on coal, nuclear power, and sundry new EPA regulations, all Americans “necessarily” pay more for their electric bills.
  • Fuel/Food: Due to Obama’s war on oil production and refining, all Americans necessarily pay more for fuel.  They also pay more for food and almost every other product that relies heavily on transportation.
  • Cars: Due to Obama’s support for higher CAFE standards, all Americans will necessarily pay more to purchase cars.  Due to his support for renewable fuels mandates, all Americans will pay more to fuel those cars.
  • Money/Savings: Due to Obama’s support for monetary stimulus and a weak dollar, all Americans are forced to pay more for a number of commodities.  All Americans are seeing their savings depleted.
  • Credit: Due to Obama’s credit card regulations (Credit Card Accountability, Responsibility and Disclosure Act), it is harder for the poor to obtain credit.
  • Corporate Regulations: Finally, Obama’s onerous new regulations – from Obamacare to Dodd-Frank – affect almost every business.  We all know that corporations pass down the extra costs to consumers.  We will never know how much more consumers pay for typical goods and services as a result of this president’s policies.

Health, food, transportation, fuel, and electricity are among the most vital needs for everyone, and they account for a large portion of the budget for those whom Obama claims to be waging a war on their behalf.  And this guy has the impertinence to claim he cut taxes for the middle class?

    And he wants MORE…..

MORE for what? To hire more IRS agents and regulators.

    Throw all the bums out….

…and I still am with regards to laying out ultra-specifics of plans for the MSM to mindlessly and dishonestly tear apart for months.

But Obama is providing too many opportunities for conservatives, Super PACs, Republicans in congress and the Romney campaign.

Obama is now a proven liar many times over…including on raising taxes on the working class…and now he unleashes the most obvious and easily-provable lie regarding being outspent in the 2008 presidential campaign.

It’s time to lower the boom on Obama…and quite frankly, I don’t give a rip who or where the attacks come from so long as they are recurring and hard-hitting. Those remaining likely voters who still like Obama personally (yet disagree with his policies) need to see exactly what a lying disgrace this guy is…and they need to see it NOW THROUGH ELECTION DAY…NON-STOP.

Over at Ace of Spades with links elsewhere.

The parts about preference cascades are, I think anyway, interesting and potentially accurate; anecdotes appear to confirm the tipping is starting. The money, though, is in the first 6-8 paragraphs.

Usually, August is the best time to do this, but Obama is just opening the door far too wide.

Romney is correct to pounce on this. It needs to be a BIG hit, but Mitt Romney has a history of big hits from his work against Gingrich in the primary…and now he has the benefit of a swelling war chest and Super PACs who are itching to carpet-bomb the airwaves with ads exposing Obama.

Grab some popcorn…this should be fun to watch :)

Obama announced early in his administration that he was going to stop adjusting the floor of the Alternative Minimum Tax. He billed it as “refusing to engage in an accounting trick” that the evil Bush had used to “make the deficits seem smaller.”

This means he will be raising some $1.2 trillion in new revenue to the government over the next 10 years entirely from the middle class.

The AMT was passed to prevent the wealthiest taxpayers from escaping with $0 in taxes. However, it was not indexed for inflation, so without adjustment, it applies lower and lower on the economic ladder every year unless the minimum income floor gets adjusted.

I know from experience, the AMT already kicks in well below $250,000. And thanks to Obama, who loves the middle class don’t you know, it will kick in lower and lower.

I wrote about it when it happened back in Feb 2009. See http://www.plumbbobblog.com/?p=3443 if you want detail.

or on your Filed AGI ?

Is there comprehensible stated “violations’ of ObieCare , to clue a guy in on what constitutes ‘Cadillac Plans’ or is this fodder for one of those numerous committees.
    { Or frightingly, “The Secretary shall….”, be the arbiter?}

Honestly I come to you, as I suspect you have it right at hand.
Looking through all that crap just gets me ‘really nasty’ for the rest of the day.
Thank you for any response. fwk

The tax will be levied on those plans that are worth more than $10,200 for individuals and $27,500 for families.

on indoor tanning that is slipped in by the PPACA. Does anyone believe that the Dem liberals won’t be slipping in anymore Fed sales taxes on other goods?

Incredible. The tax increase he is proposing on the surface looks great to Democrats but if they wuld look at who he is really raising taxes on i think that even the Democrats would say Whoa! so many samll businesses, the ones that create many jobs, will fall into that category because the owners file their taxes for the business and their personal tax together. I use to own a consulting business back in the 80′s and I filed that way. when Reagan gave us some tax relief I was able to hire two new employee’s on hte savings. Under Obama’s plan i woul dhave to layoff three just to break even. doesn’t make sense.
