Attack Obamacare on All Fronts: Repeal, Defund, Disrupt

The House voted today to fully repeal Obamacare.  It is important that we keep Obamacare at the forefront of the debate, but we must also act in a meaningful way to disrupt its implementation.  The more smoothly this behemoth is enacted, the harder it will be to repeal.  To that end, we turn to the 29 Republican governors to lead the way.

The one practical silver lining of the Supreme Court’s egregious ruling is that states can reject the expansion of Medicaid rolls without facing reprisal from the federal government.  Medicaid is already the largest expenditure for most state budgets and this expansion will bankrupt the states while creating irrevocable dependency across the country.  Every Republican governor must flatly refuse to implement the expansion.

The other lynch pin of Obamacare implementation is the creation of state-run health exchanges.  These exchanges will be used to help individuals comply with the mandate to buy health insurance – insurance that will become more expensive as a result of the law.  Once again, by refusing to set up these exchanges, governors can seriously disrupt the bulk of the law before it goes into effect in 2014, buying us more time until we can repeal the law next year.

Here are the governors who have already committed to rejecting or are leaning towards rejecting the Medicaid expansion:

  • Terry Branstad – IA
  • Sam Brownback- KS
  • Phil Bryant – MS
  • Dennis Daugaard-SD (committed at least until after the elections)
  • Nikki Haley-SC (will also block health exchanges)
  • Dave Heineman-NE
  • Bobby Jindal-LA (will also block health exchanges)
  • Rick Perry-TX (will also block health exchanges)
  • Rick Scott-FL  (will also block health exchanges)
  • Scott Walker – WI (will also block health exchanges)
  • Jay Nixon, the Democrat governor of Missouri is also leaning against implementation

Here are the governors who have issued statements equivocating over implementation and are taking a ‘wait and see approach’:

  • Robert Bentley-AL
  • Jan Brewer-AZ
  • Chris Christie-NJ
  • Tom Corbett-PA
  • Jack Dalrymple-ND
  • Mitch Daniels- IN
  • Nathan Deal – GA
  • Mary Fallin- OK
  • Gary Herbert – UT
  • John Kasich-OH
  • Paul LePage-ME (unsure, despite calling it the Gestapo)
  • Susana Martinez-NM
  • Bob McDonnell – VA
  • Matt Meade-WY
  • Butch Otter – ID
  • Sean Parnell- AK
  • Bill Haslam-TN
  • Brian Sandoval-NV
  • Rick Snyder-MI

Many of these governors have expressed their desire to study the effects of the expansion and exchanges.  They say they want to digest the Supreme Court’s ruling and its ramifications on the states.  Why the equivocation?  We are in the bottom of the ninth inning here.  Implementation of these provisions will bankrupt their states, create incorrigible dependency, and drive up the cost of private insurance to the extent that everyone else will be forced to buy government-subsidized healthcare.  What else would you want to expend your political capital on if not over implementation of Obamacare?

We need to repeal the law next year and defund it this year.  To that end, Reps. Jim Jordan and Michele Bachmann are circulating a letter to leadership requesting all members to vote against any appropriations bill that contains funding for Obamacare.  The letter already has 80 signatures and counting (view letter and supporters here).  However, we need to fight Obamacare on all fronts and the most immediate way to stop it is in the states.  We can’t wait.

We must also put pressure on the governors and state legislators in red and purple states that are controlled in part by Democrats, such as Arkansas, Kentucky, West Virginia, North Carolina, Montana, and Colorado.

Please call your governors and tell them not to implement the Medicaid expansion or health exchanges prescribed under the worst legislation in American history.

A number of groups (including the one I work for) have been trying to pressure Governor Corbett on the issue of exchanges. For example this blog post went out to our email list a couple days ago.

On the legislative front, our state Senate passed SB 10, which is a constitutional amendment that would bar the forced purchase of insurance. It’s currently waiting on a House vote. Although, we have a GOP lead House they don’t seem to be in any hurry at this point to put it on the calender.

Hopefully, hearing about it over the summer will get them moving.

This is very important. People need to realize that this is something that can be fought on a very local level by contacting their state reps, especially in states where Republicans control the legislature.

He’s not governor yet, but he’s our candidate this year….

Presently, he’s our Attorney General, and while he did join the suit against the law, now that it’s upheld he is FORCED to support it by the politics of this state…

On this issue, WA is ‘somewhere left of Berkley’ – or more accurately, King County is, and that’s enough votes to dominate the rest of the state thanks to the Seattle-Bel-Red area….

So if McKenna wants to win, he has to support O-care and hope Romney repeals it before it can further bankrupt the state…

Knowing WA’s politics, I’m willing to forgive him that one, simply because I’d rather have him than Inslee, and he’s reasonably solid (for a WA pol) on other issues….

will someone on here explain to me WHY setting up a state exchange will make insurance more expensive. my logic (probably flawed, but i don’t know) tells me it would bring prices down as many new insurees as well as old ones will have the ability to shop around for the best price.

to defend and uphold the Constitution and they have a duty to protect their citizens from this unconstitutional law — regardless of what the Supreme Court ruled. The federal Court was wrong and it is up to the states to act accordingly on behalf of their citizens.

at my local GOP annual fundraiser next week. No doubt many of the attendees will encourage him to get on board the rejection train because I intend to spread the word. I may even take him a copy of this diary.

Honestly, where would we actually be if McCain had won in 2008. I know we wouldn’t have Obamacare that’s true. Aside from that where would we actually be. The Democrats would have controlled Congress when he took office. He would have pandered to them We’d still have record spending. Nancy Pelosi would still be Speaker. The Democrats surely wouldn’t have gotten wiped out in 2010 if McCain was President. They probably would have GAINED seats. The anger at Republicans would have continued. It was Obamacare that really fueled the Tea Party movement. We wouldn’t have Senator Rubio, Senator Paul, Senator Lee, Senator Toomey, Senator Johnson, or Senator Ayotte, etc. We wouldn’t have 29 Republican governors. We wouldn’t have Allen West and 60 freshman Congressmen. McCain supported bombing Libya, getting rid of Mubarek, and supports Obama’s Syria policy. If McCain was in office the Democrats in Congress would have probably let all of the Bush tax cuts expire. McCain supported Cap and Trade during the campaign. Where would we actually be if career panderer McCain had won in 2008.

    • goodgovernance

Where would we be? A lot better off than we are now. The first two years of McCain’s first term wouldn’t have been squandered on Obamacare. The deficit wouldn’t have skyrocketed like it has under Obama. And economic recovery would be well underway, because there wouldn’t be the uncertainty and outright hostility toward business that Obama is responsible for.

And let’s get something clear. If it’s pandering you’re worried about, you’ve got enough potential problems in the present to worry about, you don’t need to go fretting about the past.

  • APA Guy

It will ultimately be Governor Pence making that decision…and you can guess which way he will roll :)

    • michaelbowler

Indiana…that’s Mitch Daniels, is it not?

      • APA Guy

At that point, the measured approach of Governor Daniels gives way to the swift sweeping away of the provisions of Obamacare that are solely within the Governor’s control. That likely will not happen until 2013.

for going in front of the NAACP and criticizing Obamacare. He may not have convinced many there to vote for him, but he did the right thing. If you’re going to be a leader you’ve got to be able to show people you’re willing to go into the lion’s den. Today he did just that.

It is only “A WASTE”,if the SENATE in DC ignores their CONSTITUTIONAL OATH OF OFFICE ,and does not go along with THE HOUSE in DC,that wants CUBAN STYLE HEALTH CARE killed.

And,when is FANCY NANCY PELOUSY and her husband, going to be on trial in DC,for keeping AMERICA SAMOA away from their/DEMS minimum wage increase, where the PELOUSY’S have investments, somewhat offshore.

CHINA/RUSSIA must have loved having in AMERICA,A SPEAKER OF THE HOUSE FROM SAN FRAN,which would be like ,Gen.Patton in the top three in MOSCOW/BEIJING?

and since none of us claim to be great and since there is no such word as ungreatful, I assume in your rush to share your fantasy world with us, you meant ungrateful.

Little piece of advice, you should watch calling everyone Un-American since you have your head up your ass and would not know an anti American if they were sitting in your lap and the fact that many in this country would punch you in the mouth for saying that to them.I know you feel safe in internet land to talk crap, but you are not as safe as you think.

          • otis1

I have found real friends here since then, and had talks with the real leaders here.

PTTP/ayers.sorry I misspelled, not one of my better things. But,I think you would agree that OBAMA is an anti-American???

And,although” lady”, you want to hurt me for some anti-American reason, and are threatening me out of fear,I am very safe here because my family and friends own the entire street, and have more guns than Eric Holder did.

          • otis1

I am just one of four, and they’re all great guys/Americans.Shaun is a very very wealthy famous lawyer, and a Conservative which is odd? And we joke about lawyers all the time on the show that he HOSTS/SPONSORS TOO.

Mike, is a great guy,has a great sense of humor, and his daughter captains our huge military jets out of Germany to aid our troops worldwide. And he was raised just miles from me in NJ,but everyone in Florida seems to be from NJ.

Johnathan,is our young guy,at least half our ages, and if all of America’s kids were like him we would have few problems, and no Obama.

I am,basically the clown of the show. I am not nearly as smart as the others, but have common sense, and will say what they should not?
My oldest did his tours for our MARINES in the Middle East, and made it home alive with honors, inspite of the DEMS/ THEIR MSM. He now works where most of our State’s tax dollars go to die/be redistributed, and he deserves every penny of it.

GEEKER,basically what I am saying to you and your little group is,KMFA,and get a hobby?

          • gekster

And you said it was a radio show, when it isn’t, it’s an internet streaming show.
And how hard is it to provide a link to the show.
How hard is it to back up what you claim.
If you were the conservative you claim to be, all would have been provided. What’s the problem, provide the link.
My question is based on what you have claimed.
Why no link, and why did they on the other end of the phone # you provided not know of you when I called.
There are only four employees, why do they not know of you.
And you are my hobby, I’m retired, and have nothing else to do.

          • PowerToThePeople

just like your radio show huh.

Do you answer yourself a lot?

  • Wubbies World

….another election cycle until 2014. So, I am not so sure that there is a political advantage on waiting actually. The state legislature only meets 60 days a year starting in February so no point in waiting there either.

As far as I know, and I live 3 miles from the governors mansion in South Dakota, the governor has no political reason to wait on the exchanges decision.

The governor just finished with a painful 10% across the board budget slashing fight. I am not to sure he is in a hurry to revisit that pain either. It is much easier for him to renounce the exchanges in my opinion.

you really make some good points in a lot of your writings, but your constant abuse of cap locks and excessive use of the exclamation point detracts from what you have to say. Many in here, myself included, will be way too irritated by the constant capitol letters and nonsensical use of the exclamation point that we will skip reading your post and that is a shame since you make many great points.

Calm down, write normal, use other punctuation marks, and your thoughts will encourage and teach others. Keep the same style, and you make your own writings irrelevant.

Nixon tried to implement the exchanges but was stopped by Republican state legislators who learned Nixon had instructed the insurance commission to set up the health exchanges. Republicans learned of the secret, night-time meeting of the commission and showed up and blocked it. Thousands of Missourians attended a rally against obamacare which helped wavering state legislators get a backbone to block it.
