Got the link from my friend Janet at The Jawa Report.

During a House Intelligence Committee hearing Thursday, Director of National Intelligence James Clapper called Egypt’s branch of the Muslim Brotherhood movement “largely secular.”

In response to questioning from Rep. Sue Myrick (R-N.C.) about the threat posed by the group, Clapper suggested that the Egyptian part of the Brotherhood is not particularly extreme and that the broader international movement is hard to generalize about.

“The term ‘Muslim Brotherhood’…is an umbrella term for a variety of movements, in the case of Egypt, a very heterogeneous group, largely secular, which has eschewed violence and has decried Al Qaeda as a perversion of Islam,” Clapper said.

And in a secondary headline, ‘Chickens have lips’.

than Clapper’s spin on this as far as I’m concerned. Keep it up, Kenny. We need this kind of info. Thanks for taking it on.

    That’s all. Just that.

Oh, and I just saw the Saudis are telling Obama to back Mubarak or they will.

are fading fast. She’s going to be too deep in this sphinxterfunk real soon, and the Saudis calling out Lil’ Barry is plain handwriting on the wall, not hieroglyphics.

Hillary, you’d better get in touch with your inner Cyrus Vance.

About roughly 2.5 million Egyptians living outside Egypt (most in Saudi Arabia).

Now, let’s see, we have about, what, 500k to 1 million folks (maybe) protesting led by the Muslim Brotherhood and El Baradei? For Pete’s sake, we have more people than that watching the ball drop in Times Square on New Years Eve.

That is the “majority” that Obama has used as a basis for dumping Mubarak and interfering in Egyptian affairs.

I am having a hard time calling that gathering “popular democratic movement”.

On FOX this morning is saying these Egyptians are just ” smelling their freedom” that they are demanding Mubarak step down. So who is the media supporting to sweep into power? Radical Islam! The media is so ignorant of the Middle East. Mubarak is no wonderful guy, but we should shut up, quit backing Muslim Brotherhood and HOPE for a transition to a secular government. If not, we will get another Iran! What you see is a repeat of Iran. I was living in Iran just before the “revolution.” They demanded the Shah step down to “sweep in” the “moderate” Bani Sadr. As soon as they got power it was out with Bani Sadr and in with radical Islam! This is scary.

    the Ayatollah.

it includes some otherwise respectable conservatives and libertarians. I agree with you this smells a whole lot like Iran, only worse.

And part of what I worry about is that inept backdoor diplomacy is the cause. Kissinger ran backdoor negotiations with South Vietnam before we abandoned the North, but at least he was came from the school of RealPolitic. I get the feeling this administration has been doing the same thing with the Muslim Brotherhood, only they come from Pink Bunny Rabbits school of diplomacy.

It’s solid bet that Egypt will internally explode into a full-on Islamic state and it’ll make Iran from ’79 through now look like a cakewalk.

The Egyptian military will hold power right up to the moment the clerics walk into the conference room and say ‘hand over the keys’ —- I give that about a day, maybe two.

Egypt state television is reporting that Mubarak’s ‘I’m outta here’ statement was recorded yesterday.

Fox News reporting: Mubarak Will Step Down, Transfer Power to Military Council.

Israel better have one finger on the button, because the balloon is gonna go up. It’s just a matter of when and from how many sides.

Obama Strikes a Deal With the Devil as Mideast Meltdown Continues

And so quietly, almost off-handedly, the Rubicon has been crossed. The United States of America, whose blood and treasure have been spilled fighting terrorism, is jumping into bed with radical Islamists.

By approving a role for the Muslim Brotherhood in a new Egyptian government, the White House is taking its engagement policy to a dangerous level. American taxpayer dollars will now help sustain the oldest Islamist group, one that helped launch Osama bin Laden on his murderous quest.
Perhaps this day was inevitable for an administration that refuses to say “Islamic terrorists,” and claims “jihad” can be a good thing and Hezbollah has “moderate” elements.

But it is hardly inevitable that the Kumbaya approach will bring peace to the Middle East. More likely, it will be seen as Western weakness and beget even more violence against America and our allies.

Bye, Bye Europe – sorry we could not save you this time.

the military will hand over control to MB? I would think that the input of other nations in that region would play into this situation rather than just the desires of MB alone. After all, given all the unrest that MB is generating, the neighboring nations wouldn’t necessarily support Egypt’s military in supporting MB’s coup, would they?

  • http://www.tobytoons.com TobyToons

We will see how long the statement (that the MB doesn’t want to be in charge – or whatever they said along those lines) holds out.

  • http://www.redstate.com/etcartman Kenny Solomon

……and what my gut has been telling me all along, is that this whole thing across the board has been planned out, definitely coordinated – with a ton of outside help – and the endgame is an Islamic state and not just in Egypt.

Why do you think all the ‘little to-do’s’ are going on in Lebanon, Tunisia, Algeria, Syria, Jordan and the rest ?

It’s the ‘go’ moment for their getting it done.

  • lineholder

with the stand some nations, such as Saudi Arabia, are taking.

Let me ask you this, Kenny…at this point, what nations would you see as being for and against MB?

  • http://www.redstate.com/etcartman Kenny Solomon

    Against:

Israel as a whole – Government and people.
    America – The people.
    Australia
    New Zealand
    Japan
China (they’ll react ‘kind of’ harshly if The MB tries anything).

    — — —

    For:

Every Muslim nation, because the oh-so-peace-loving MB will treat and are treating their own as infidels for deviating even slightly. It’s called “submission”, the definition of Islam.

The Obama administration. They’re under orders and to a visibly obvious degree, willing participants.

    — — — —

Too politically destroyed and infiltrated by Muslims to stand up:

The UK, all of Europe and Scandinavia.

Think you could revisit the lessons of the 10 plagues on the Muslim Brotherhood and their assorted associates. They’re a bit clueless on the “Keep your hands off my chosen People, their land and friends” reason you gave the first time around. Seeing as the old MB wasn’t in existence at the time.
