Democrats Go Into ‘Sheer Panic’ Mode Over Massachusetts

The Democrats have gone into ‘sheer panic’ mode over Martha Coakley‘s campaign in Massachusetts.

The Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee (DCCC) has purchased advertising made expenditures1 to help Martha Coakley.

Read that again.

NOT the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee (DSCC), but the campaign committee for the House of Representatives.

Why would House Democrats be spending their precious resources on someone running for the United States Senate? Because they know it would destroy Nancy Pelosi’s agenda to have Scott Brown in the Senate.

It also has federal campaign finance implications. It’s going to be interesting to see how the expenditure is disclosed.

This is rather unheard of. Couple it with the news that the DNC and DSCC are sending senior staff to Massachusetts to salvage the Coakley campaign and you can imagine just how worried Barack Obama is. He remembers what happened in 1993 and 1994 to Bill Clinton and he doesn’t want to have that happen to him.

If Scott Brown keeps Coakley down to a narrow victory — never mind Brown winning in a state that really does not like Republicans — it will send shockwaves throughout Washington, DC and probably expedite a wave of retirements and party flipping. Should Brown happen to win? To quote Moe, “DOOM.”

  1. The DCCC is denying ad buys. I went back to the original note from my source and it said “expenditures,” which I just presumed to be advertising. My fault. But yes, the DCCC is making expenditures to benefit Coakley.

I have to wonder what kind of effect will it have on the democrat mindset if they have to expend a lot of money on a race that should have been a sure fire thing?

And to add this new information makes it even more interesting. Wow.

  • 10ksnooker

Perfectly timed devastating sneak attack. Deep into enemy territory, bluest of blue state, bluest of blue race.

Hello, wake up call for Barcky.

    Americans don’t do tyranny…

  • Mary Beth

    …but I can’t help but get excited.

I think the people are just that angry. I think Coakley’s just that bad of a candidate and Brown just that good of one.

And I think that the democrat machine has turned off America…not only in Washington but even in the bluest of blue states like “Massachusettes”.

People are fed up with their lies of half truths and broken promises…and I think that will turn into a depressed turnout for Coakley…so even with the dead and illegal votes…even with SEIU and ACORN…

    It won’t be enough.

    That’s my prediction right now.

  • http://www.neoavatara.com/blog neoavatara

Just wait. Every underhanded dirty Democratic trick that you can imagine of will be used from now until Tuesday. This is everything for them: Obama’s legacy, health care, the economy, blah blah blah. They will sacrifice their own grandmothers to get this done.

In light of the news in Mass. there is no excuse for the GOP not to challenge the rats in states where there is a more favorable demographic. They need to challenge Bayh, Feingold, and patty Murry.

  • http://www.thehayride.com MacAoidh

…that’s when you call in the Hanson Brothers. Everybody knows this.

  • swami7774

The Dem union goons are blanketing the airwaves with anti-Brown stuff, which is interesting because until yesterday, Coakley was whining about Brown getting help from “outsiders.”
That complaint went down the memory hole pretty quickly.
Of course, the Boston media won’t highlight that, nor are they much excited about Mike Meehan pushing the WS reporter to the ground.

  • http://www.thehayride.com MacAoidh

….I bet Paul Ryan would kick his ass, though I’d almost rather wait and run Ryan for President in 2012. Can you imagine Ryan against Obama in a debate? That’d be like clubbing baby seals.

  • dhorowitz3

Absolutely. He would win the senate seat. In terms of a policy debate between him and Osama it would not be a fare fight. Its like a Rhodes scholar debating a four year old.

  • peaceful

While I wholeheartedly support Mr. Brown and am hopeful he will pull off a major upset, the odds are stacked against him. With the institutionalized vote fraud led by ACORN on behalf of the Democrat party, it is highly unlikely that Mr. Brown will win this linchpin Senate race even if he secures a majority of the votes. The banana republic machine that is the leftist Democrat party will stop at nothing to retain this critical seat and move forward with their takeover of America via the Trojan horse known as “health care reform.” There is no way the Democrat party will allow the American people to actually elect their own representatives in Mass. or any other critical state. RIP liberty and freedom.

  • AceInTX

If this happens…and if the Democrats have to marshal their resources to protect deep blue seats…the Republican Party needs to be running in every district possible.

The result would be forcing the Dems so spread limited reasources out even thinner…making it less likely they will have enough funds to protect deep blue seats making it easier for us to get some stunning pickups…but more importantly…if we can seed the ground in more obscure districts that are not being defended because Dems are protecting their bigs…this could be an earth shattering election making 1982 and 1994 look like patty cake!

I’m putting this race if it’s a win on a par with Gore losing his own state in 2000 over Gun control….you’ll note the Dems haven’t gone back to the gun control well in a decade now as a result!

  • http://moelane.com/ Moe Lane

Heck, covering Election Day for that state was like running up a flight of stairs and thinking that there was one more step than there actually was…

  • smitch61

I live in MI, but have many family members in MA. Most are Democrats and are voting for Scott. My cousin said that the GOP and Independents seldom even bothered to go out and vote for Kennedy. He was always the shoe in. They are fired up this time though and my cousin has been volunteering every day at one of the headquarters. The phone banking is going real well. She told me for the first time the people of MA really feel like they have a choice at this one.

  • mbecker908

I’d love to see her get tossed.

If she was replaced by my dead white cat (who’s not buried in WA, unfortunately) the average IQ in the Senate would go up a dozen points.

  • Mary Beth

Is it a matter of more poll watchers? Cameras? Insisting there be GOP representatives there when the votes are counted?

I really want to know…because I think we’re going to face a lot of this in the upcoming elections…not just in Mass but in a lot of states. Especially given this administration and their associations and connections.

  • dhorowitz3

I have to double check but I think a former NFL player is running against her.

  • AceInTX

Dems I know who can’t sit still when anything political is mentioned waiting for their chance to jump in and take over the conversation with every Dem talking point and calling Republicans every name in the book are suddenly sitting back and biting their lips rather than get smacked down by people who have always been passive and considered themselves as independents in the past…it’s been funny to watch…

I don’t think anyone knows who HUGE this tsunami that is roaring in is going to be….I’m stunned by it…..even in Charlie Gonzalez district it’s pervasive and overwhelming!

  • AceInTX
  • mbecker908

McCain has the safest seat in the US. Unfortunately.

  • NotPC

As a NH resident I am loving this race in MA……it gives me hope that in 2010 my state will finally begin to turn around and they’ll get rid of Carol Shea-Porter and Paul Hodes……these two are a disgrace.

  • AceInTX

but I’m sure you’re right…and I will be on the ground for Williams…if Kay Bailey does what she says she will…

but I’m not holding my breath! She’ll stay and Williams will have to wait or primary her in 12

  • MrMosis

The Hillbuzz crowd had me thinking similar possitive thoughts in November of 2008.

Brown campaign wants to up the moneybomb by another $500K today. I just did my $35 for the day.

  • jenniferjmilleresq

He has to have a 5% margin, minimum, in Massachusetts to overcome the voter fraud already in the works by the Democrats there. It all depends on whether the Brown supporters turn out in significant enough numbers. Keep an eye on the weather forecast and hope for cold and snow.

  • hampa

I have it on good authority that the Massachusetts National Guard will be guarding the gates at Mt Auburn Cemetery in Cambridge. They will not let anyone out to vote!
    Brown in a walk.

My understanding is that snow is forecast for election day.

That would, I think, further depress turnout to only those who were really interested and serious about voting.

    1. Coakley took a vacation in the middle of the race.
    2. She had to spend a bunch of $$ in a primary battle.
    3. The GOP had a real candidate to run against her.
    4. It’s an off cycle election. If this were Nov 2, 2010 Brown would be down 30.

  • ktsub

It makes it all worth it reading the comments at the left-wing blogs, of worry and hand-wringing about this special election. I keep telling myself are they really this occupied with a MA election, for Teddy Kennedy seat!!! This is the best week I have had in a while. I cant help but smile, I would not even care if he lost by double digits, its just so so incredibly classic to see this happening, only one year after the supposed great political realignment….HAHAHAHA!

I hope the DSCC pours some more cash in…we can win this thing…incredible.

  • Mayhem

I have been harping on this around here for months. There is no excuse for Pence not to challenge Bayh and win his seat. And make no mistake, he would win that seat. I’m guessing that Pence really wants to run for higher office in the near future. Well, he needs to put aside his personal ambitions for just one election cycle and do this for the country. Plus, who’s to say that a Senate win wouldn’t increase his power and influence?

We need Mike Pence in the Senate.

  • orangemtl

Please o please o please let this one go the Right way (pun intended). We all recognize the hurdle; I think we all know that Mr Brown could get ‘Franken’d’ by the liberal machine in Massachusetts; the very fact that this converstaion is occurring says so much however about the change in tone that has entered the political arena in twelve short months.

I’ve asked this before and elsewhere, but again I ask: WHERE is the RNC and NRSC? If they are helping, why has it to date been a zealously guarded secret? Shouldn’t we see Chairman Steele cancelling a few book-shilling dates to lend time, money and effort? If all of us can dump $1.3MM into the campaign in 24 hours (yes, I did my part as no doubt near everyone on these strings), can’t the RNC scrape up a couple hundred thousand and a few staffers? And if not: then what, exactly is their purpose? I’ve asked myself this question every time I’ve tossed their envelopes into the trash in 2009, while writing check to the Club for Growth. Perhaps they can now illustrate their invaluable worth to all of us.

  • eburke

Redskins but that’s coming from *way* back in my subconscious so I wouldn’t recommend betting the house on it.

  • eburke

unjustifiably, but I couldn’t help but notice that a) you’ve only been around a month; and, 2) this is the first diary you’ve commented on; and 3) you seemed compelled to start your post with “While I wholeheartedly support Mr. Brown and am hopeful he will pull of a major upset” which is not exactly the way a conservative activist would start a post dealing with the shenanigans that the lib Dems always pull in elections.

So, riddle me as to why I/we shouldn’t think that you are one of the ‘eeyores’ referred to over at Hillbuzz who infest conservative websites posing as conservatives but whose real purpose is to sow fear and defeatism among conservatives and thus depress turnout.

Just askin’ cause my radar is *really* beeping right now.

  • pilgrim

A while back I post a diary on 2010 US Senate contests with photos of folks I’d like to see take a seat occupied by a D. I even consider it possible for Russ Feingold to get beat by Terrence Wall. Unlike McCain, Feingold is a purist about refusing to have his campaign financed by the PACs.

    http://www.redstate.com/pilgrim/2009/12/09/2010-us-senate-freshman-class/

  • Mary Beth

But only if he got the right person to succeed him in the House.

  • ktsub

You said you have tossed RNC fundraising appeals, guess that explains where they are at.

  • gonzo55

Mrs. Gonzo and I were going over our finances last night and saw we had an extra couple hundred dollars this month, and we decided to donate it to a good cause. She suggested the money could do the most good going to Mr. Brown’s campaign (my wife is a keeper!), and I quickly agreed.

When I logged on to his website, I read for the first time about the Haitian earthquake. The enormity and immediacy of the need touched us both, and we ended up giving the money to a local nonprofit who will use it to aid the people of Haiti.

This got me thinking, though, couldn’t you argue that defeating Obamacare has just as big or bigger of a human impact as aiding the earthquake victims? The earthquake is awful, but I fear well more than 100,000 Americans will die if Obamacare is thrust down our throats, under the rubble of long lines, the aftershocks of low-quality care, and the electrical fires of skyrocketing costs. Dear Leader’s health plan is like an earthquake we can see coming, and we can possibly prevent it by electing Mr. Brown. I’m going to dip into my savings to give a nice donation to Mr. Brown’s campaign.

mbecker908 , don’ t totally certain about McCain. We in Arizona are VERY tired of him. Recall his admonition to voters that they ‘need not fear an Obama presidency’. The old fighter has disappeared over the hill, and was always flakey as hell anyway. My personal opinion, having been involved in Az politics for over 40 years, is that his current blitz of ads are not having much effect (like Reid in NV), folks are tired of his lack of consistency regarding conservative principles, and he could well loose the primary. Right now he is statistically even with JD Hayworth, who may be an un-endearing blowhard, but he’s not McCain, and he consistently votes the right way.

And for the sake of a native, I’ll go through it one more time.

1.McCain is sitting on $5MM right now. He can raise another $10MM if he needs it.
    2. The Democrats will be running someone my dead white cat could beat. McCain will have to spend $5.00 (yep, that’s five dollars) in the general to win. The only announced candidate so far is a city councilman from Tucson that isn’t even particularly well known in Tucson.
    3. The current field of primary challengers (or potential, including JD) are Chris Simcox, SomeGuyNobodyKnows, and JD.
    4. Simcox is a fruitloop. He’s got some name recognition and it’s generally bad.
    5. SGNK is a total unknown. I don’t think his neighbors know him.
    6. Neither Simcox or SGNK has enough money to take us to lunch. I expect Simcox might be able to raise a million. SGNK won’t raise lunch money. At Burger King. Off the dollar menu.
7.JD is currently something like $100K in the hole from his last outing. Sheriff Joe was trying to help him raise cash a month or so ago and I don’t know how that came out. Probably not real well because I haven’t heard a word.
8.JD is very well known. That’s why he lost his House seat. He’s rightly perceived as do-nothing whiner. His numbers will peak the instant before he opens his mouth and it’s all downhill from there.
    9. McCain can spend every nickel he’s got, and a few of Cindy’s if he has to, to win the primary. He won’t have to, but he can. The general will be a free pass just like last time. Do you remember who the Ds ran against him in 2004? Neither do I.
    10. Arizona is NOT a Red state. Thanks to immigration (from CA, I have only minimal issues with the Mexicans), we’re Purple. Janet beat a pretty good conservative the first time out and won reelection in a walk. Right now Goddard (Dem AG) is the odds on favorite to win the Gov’s job this year. I see where Dean Martin (Rep Treasurer) is running against our CharlieChrist-in-drag current governor. Hopefully she’ll bow out gracefully because she’s another example why we need a LtGov.

Bottom line, there will be no great outpouring of conservative outrage in Arizona this year. Certainly not enough to elect JD Hayworth. Hell, he couldn’t even get his old seat back. At best, assuming JD could find some money, he might get 30% of the vote. The other two might split 4%.

After all that, I’d really, really, really love to be wrong.

I suspect that a lot of House dems are concerned about their OWN upcoming elections…and would probably be able to use a little campaign money themselves!

Wonder how they’ll take to Nancy Pelosi telling them that there are no funds available…especially after funding such a lousy candidate, and in the event that she loses? Maybe sugar daddy Soros will come to the rescue.

    What’s a concern troll ?

    What’s an eeyore?

ERICK! Put up a glossary page please.

  • http://www.hakubi.us/ Neil Stevens

“Concern troll” is a term coined at Daily Kos which refers to a bad-faith poster who pretends to be on our side, expressing concern about how wrong and scary we are about every policy.

Eeyore is a Winnie the Pooh character who managed to grumble and be pessimistic all the time about everything.

  • technomage

I believe that many people ‘misunderestimate’ JD’s chances here.

    A) Yes, he lost to Mitchell, but that was on the ABB (Anyone but Bushies) tsunami that swept through, and included that bastion of liberalism: Tempe.

    B) Arizonans really, REALLY, don’t like McCain. There’s a sense of both betrayal and his losing to the big O.

    C) JD is popular, and more importantly, he is aligned ideologically with the tea party movement.

JD would be well-served by leveraging his tea-party roots and conducting a whisper campaign (which I think is what is already happening to an extent). Instead of going for the big fish contributors who would be reluctant (can you spell ‘scared’) of McCain’s wrath should McCain win, he could go direct to We The People with an advanced internet campaign.

It’s a perfect storm setup: a tea-party republican taking on a well-financed, uber-marketing-driven McCain RINO campaign (i.e. more of the same ole politics as usual crap). His differentiation could easily be that while McCain is interested in straight talk – Hayworth is interested in plans and actions to get us back on the right track. i.e. Straight talk is cheap.

If his FIT Trust web page is any indicator of how he plans to run, with transparency and putting his cards on the table, it’s gonna be interesting. VERY interesting. (The site I am referring to is fittrust.org)

This really will be a David v. Goliath match up should he decide to run.

And I will back him up any way I can. We’ve had enough of McCain’s ‘straight talk’ and ‘crooked actions’.

The Unions are bussing people in to help the Democrat. They cant afford to lose Mass. The Unions just made a deal with Obama on Health for a new tax on their plans. Many if not all Democrats in the House plan o fall on their swords because they are more scared of Pelosi then the Public. After all, the Voters have been retaining 90% of the incumbents for the last 20 years. Think about it . There are 435 members in the House.Ten percent of 435 is 44. The Democrats now have 256 members, The Republlcan have 178. If that 10% or 44 were alll new Republicans trhen the Democrats would be reduced to 212 and the Republicans would go to 222 giving them a slim majority while keeping 90%. This has been going on for twenty years and this is why they dont respond to the people. These Democrats have been promised Judge ships and Ambassador ships etc if they vote for Health care and are defeated in Novemeber. With these exit promises and fear of Pelosi and the belief that the Voters will forget by November and retain 90% of them in November tey could care less about the Public. They see this as their big chance and what else they can do at least between now and November and maybe longer.

  • martyinaz

Watch closely EVERYTHING going on in Mass right up to and including election day. Then if Brown wins, you will have to watch everything AFTER election day. You KNOW there will be a recount…hanging chads..etc.

I think it would be false bravado to call a close loss anything but a loss. Save the chest beating ’til after Nov 2. There is where we really need to kick butt. If Brown loses, the Democrats will go on with business as usual. This is their bell weather station. Well, let them gloat. They will only dig a deeper hole to bury them in come November. On the other hand if Brown wins, we can all smile inwardly and prepare for sticking it to them on the next election day..

  • peaceful

To my fellow conservatives who seem to think I am some sort of paid leftist troll, you could not be more wrong. I watched the Mass. returns with great trepidation, daring not to hope, but then shed tears of joy when the race was called for Brown. In truth, with everything that was happening across the political landscape, I was becoming very despondent, and yes, somewhat eyeore-ish. However, with Scott Brown’s victory, the ever-improving polls for conservatives and Republicans, and the growing list of incumbent Democrats choosing not to seek reelection, my outlook has changed dramatically.

My concerns over institutionalized voter fraud are well founded, as any of you who have researched ACORN, SEIU, and the Secretary of State Project well know. Admittedly, my post was pessimistic, but in truth, I had just about lost faith in the integrity of the electoral process. In retrospect, my post should have included the facts about Democrat vote fraud, but concluded with a hopeful tone recognizing the ever-expanding conservative grass roots movement across our great country, which ultimately may reshape the political landscape and break much of the left?s political control and institutionalized corruption.
