California Pro-Life Council Owes Chuck DeVore and Me an Apology

Maybe it is their lack of reading comprehension that led the California Pro-Life Council to endorse Carly Fiorina over Chuck DeVore. DeVore has a strong pro-life record. Fiorina does not.

But they’ve gone too far now with this email:

The conservative leader of Red State web-site has now asked Devore to please consider stepping down in order to stop the splitting of the pro-life vote and giving the nomination to extreme pro-abortion candidate, Campbell.

The California Pro-Life Council is telling people in California I have called for Chuck DeVore to consider stepping down. I’ve done no such thing and on the lies and damn lies category, I’d put it in the damn lies category considering CPLC is a bought and paid for subsidiary of the Fiorina campaign.

As I’ve said repeatedly, I’m standing with Chuck. In fact, in the CNN interview CPLC is touting, I made that clear again and simply said, “Look, if Chuck DeVore hasn’t gone up in the polls within two weeks significantly, I’ll be with Carly Fiorina because Tom Campbell is that bad.” I said that two days ago.

We’ll see what the trends in the race are in two weeks, but if they are consistent I’ll be calling on Fiorina to bail, not Chuck — he’s the only one moving up in the polls.

California Pro-Life Council owes Chuck DeVore and me an apology for lying about what I’ve said to help their own candidate. Personally, I think they need to send a second email to the exact same list saying that, at a minimum, they are in error or, to be more honest, they are totally distorting what I said to help Fiorina.

Shame on them.

Sounds like a bit of panic setting in that they are resorting to such tactics. An apology would be the honorable action at this point. Should be interesting to see if they offer one.

    Erick,

Not sure if you meant to link to the Council’s front page or the email, you got the front page.

  • shadowtax

And I hope you asked for one before calling the CPLC a “bought and paid for subsidiary of Fiorina campaign.” Such calumnies benefit nobody.

to tell them what I think of liars. Absolutely disgraceful! In fact, I will also call Carly Fiona’s campaign and ask for their response. I expect that she’ll issue a statement setting the record straight. But if she doesn’t, she’ll lose all her credibility. I support Chuck DeVore, and have a wait-and-see approach with Carly. Hopefully DeVore will make everything moot and win the nomination. But if any candidate does not demand CPLC issue a retraction and an apology, DOOM to them..

groups that get behind legislators and/or legislation. And I’ve been extremely pro-life active since ’86.

I kind of feel vindicated for my feelings about those groups, when I realized that if it weren’t for NRTL we wouldn’t have had the Stupak amendment and hellcare wouldn’t have passed the house.

    But I think I was.

You did not do Devore any favors with the close-the-gap-or-else message on CNN the other night. Sorry, if I am not allowed to say that here, and I should just express solidarity, and move on.

Look at the bright side, at least they are still talking about you. This little stunt should telegraph that, if she wins the primary, Redstate, the Tea Party, and Sarah Palin wll all be persona non grata in the general election where Carly Fiorina is concerned.

Ya can’t unring a bell, babe.

    ROFLMAO! Good one!

DeVore sure moved up from the last poll by . . . 1 point, with an MOE of what, 4.5? That’s impressive, all right! From the Field poll in March, he’s moved up from 9%, a gain of 6% support. In the same time, Campbell gained SEVEN points (28-35) while Fiorina gained 2. Survey USA, the latest pollster, characterized the race as “essentially unchanged.” Big MO!

Last FEC report, it looked like he wasn’t raising anywhere near the money he needs to finish strong. Big MO!

It might be better if, in posts accusing others of misrepresenting the facts, you tried not to spin too much else.

IMHO, it was a mistake and will have unintended consequences. A few days after your Palin post, Chuck had the entire post on his website. Then, your “two week” statement. Ouch.

Its certainly not his fault people are mis-quoting him. What he said was right on the money, because the fact is that while we ‘want’ DeVore to win, we ‘need’ Campbell to lose. If DeVore can be the one to beat him, awesome. If in two weeks he’s proven that he can’t, we need to get behind somebody else (Fiorina) who can. That’s just totally true, and its not calling for him to step down today, they totally mischaracterized what he said, its nobody’s fault but theirs for doing that. To be honest Im more in the camp of ‘I wish he’d just step down today and endorse Fiorina’ because I can’t see him making up the huge ground he needs to make up, but Erick believes he deserves two more weeks, and because I really do wish that Devore could pull it out somehow, I’m on board with that. Let’s just hope that in two weeks DeVore has doubled and Campbell has cratered, and the only person who has to consider dropping out is Fiorina.

Either Fiorina has to take a dive, a least a little one, and the long time Republican and conservative minority in CA has to have an epiphany about Campbell, or something akin to a miracle to happen in two weeks for DeVore to take over the leadership on the polls. Conservative candidates are needed, not the RINOs we settled for in the past decades. Where did the RINOs get us? Progressive Demonrats, Progressive Republicans–Lindsay Graham, John McCain, etc. have truly carved away at our personal liberties and states rights and have increased the power of the federal government so it becomes an easy walk for a Socialist president to take more power.

Erick, keep it up! Stay to the course! Keep your integrity and focus!

Boxer still almost ties with Campbell 42 – 41 pecent resepctively.

“But Boxer now posts a 45% to 38% lead over former Hewlett-Packard CEO Carly Fiorina. Given that match-up, four percent (4%) like another candidate, and 12% are undecided.

Conservative State Assemblyman Chuck DeVore trails Boxer 46% to 40%, with four percent (4%) opting for another candidate and 11% undecided. ”

Yes, they owe you and him an apology. They misquoted you. There’s no excuse for it.

On the substance of the California issue, though, given that you recognize that there may be a need for a pivot to Fiorina to stop Campbell, how about you and others on this site stop attacking Fiorina for the next two weeks and focus exclusively on promoting DeVore? I’m diverging a bit from the post here, and am not suggesting that you attacked her here.

I’m not saying that you’re wrong for having emphasized the differences between them to this point, but it’s getting close to the point where you may need to make the switch. It’s legit in primaries to explain the differences between candidates and then come together for the general. That’s easier to do, though, when the wounds inflicted and incurred have a few months to heal rather than just two weeks. If DeVore is leading Fiorina at that point, I’d agree that she should drop out, just as I think DeVore should if she’s ahead. Either way, teaming up in a short period of time will be much easier if the wounds have already started to heal and some of the distaste for the candidate one didn’t favor has already started to dissipate.

but I am puzzled as to why you put Lindsay Graham in the company you cite. I don’t know why he’s sponsoring the energy bill, but aside from that, what has he done to carve away our personal liberties and states rights? I am sincerely ignorant here, not argumentative.

CHUCK DEVORE has my vote !

Being liberal means never having to say you’re sorry.

He has always been pro-amnesty for illegal aliens and when the huge opposition came forth to his (joined by McCain) amnesty or comprehensive immigration bill a few years ago, he dropped it. It is strange that he always works to form a consensus with the Democrats and yet he does not even recognize that the Democrats do not work with him form a consensus. He compromises and brings a conservative bill toward the left wing but the Democrats never compromise and bring the bill toward the conservative wing. There are numerous bills and supports that he has done over the years and with some view toward his constituents and popular sentiments in his state of South Carolina and around the U.S. he will usually support things like closing Guantanamo etc,.

It is too much of a finesse statement for the lame stream media to I terpret, in other words, don’t give them any openings no matter how small.
