In Defending Barack Obama Skipping Memorial Day, the Left Calls Dead Soldiers ‘Political Props’

Barack Obama is skipping the Memorial Day tradition of the President laying a wreath at the tomb of the unknowns. It is not unprecedented. George H. W. Bush was on the campaign trail in 1992 and scheduled to speak at an American Legions event in Maine on Memorial Day.

Ronald Reagan was in the midst of a contentious economic summit in 1983 and so sent George H. W. Bush on his behalf.

Barack Obama wants to go on vacation — the second vacation he has had since oil began spilling out of the gulf. That’s okay though because the oil spilling is George W. Bush’s fault, just like all the new dead soldiers are George Bush’s fault too. Why should he care?

The problem for Barack Obama is simple.

The troops don’t like him no matter how much the White House propaganda machine tries to gin up staged pictures of Obama voting soldiers fawning all over him. But see the tepid response from cadets at West Point or talk privately with lots of soldiers and sailors and you get something else — they fundamentally do not respect their Commander in Chief.

There was no question they respected and loved Ronald Reagan. Same with George H. W. Bush, the last veteran of World War II to serve as President.

Obama? Not so much. And what does the left do when you point this out? They equate dead soldiers to political props/ Seriously.

By suggesting this President, in the midst of a war, should probably be going to Arlington National Cemetery for Memorial Day instead of taking his second vacation in a month, conservatives are somehow suggesting he use dead soldiers as political props.

After eight years of the left demanding publicity of flag draped coffins returning to Deleware from overseas to use as political props against George W. Bush, it is more than a little humorous to have the left now accuse the right of doing the same. It also ignores a fundamental point leftists too busy calling our soldiers “war criminals” and our dead soldiers “political props” miss — going to Arlington National Cemetery to lay a wreath at the tomb of the unknowns has nothing to do with using dead soldiers as political props and everything to do with a Commander in Chief who seems to not like the military showing some basic respect to the men and women, alive and dead, who have actually kept us free.

Obama may talk about the government in the first person, but the men and women lying at Arlington know differently.

Of course, Obama really doesn’t like the military, does he. [A period there, not a question mark, is intentional]

Not only does Obama not like the military, he doesn’t like America.

He is destroying our sovereignty. He is destroying the private sector economy. He is eroding freedom.

He is committed to subjugating us to global institutions because he doesn’t view himself as a citizen of the United States, he views himself as a “citizen of the world.”

Let’s not mince words or indulge in political correctness. We have a president who loathes America and for which it stands.

We have been living in China for the last 2.5 years. Foreigners seem to love Obama because he is weakening America. . . I say “screw the other nations” – we were there to defend all of them at one point or another but they seem to forget that. They also forget that they have not had to pay for their own military allowing them to advance their own economies. . . . we need to forget political correctness and not care about what other countries think about America – we need to do what we need to do. Keep America strong – keep the military strong…..we need more Nationalism – where is the American Pride that we used to have? Americans need to be proud to be American!!! God Bless America!! Keep the faith, stay the course.

No wonder he wants to stay away. Of course, that “hating the military” thing works, too.

You’re exactly right: we HAVE been living in China for the last 2.5 years. But I think it’s going to get worse. We are headed towards a Chinese-style command economy under this administration.

According to new reports, Opuppet will be participating in a ceremony at Abraham Lincoln National Cemetary in Elwood, Chicago on Memorial Day.

According to a White House official, the Obamas will arrive Thursday and stay until Monday, when Obama will participate in a Memorial Day ceremony at Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery in Elwood. The veterans’ cemetery is about 50 miles south of Chicago.

Remember the first time Slick Willie appeared to speak at the Viet Nam Veterans Memorial? Viet Nam vets in attendance stood during the speech of he who loathed the military and turned their back on him.

Imagine thousands and thousands of Americans standing along the motorcade route, holding their hands over their hearts as the flag on his limo goes by, and then, the split the second the flag has passed by, dropping their hand and executing an about face.

With video going straight to YouTube.

I’m sure there’s other ideas, but he’s turned his back on the military time and again — now it’s the turn of Americans to turn their backs on him.

I’m sure this is the kind of project the local Tea Parties, 9.12, WeSurroundThem, American Legion, VFW and other groups could get their members out for.

There’s probably lots of other ways to make the point, but I like the idea of having lots of individual Americans actually coming together to do this with the physical act of showing their disgust for Opuppet’s treatment of veterans, their families and those now serving in harm’s way.

…are instruments of foreing policy that the President orders into combat and foreign lands the world over. I could take this gracefully if the CINC was campaigining (not that Id vote for him) but he’s not. He’s taking a vacation…Id like to take a vacation when a pressing emergency and world events are circling like shark but we can’t.

I would echo Erick’s comments that we don’t really respect him, too many slaps in the face and hand wringing. Some are enamoured by the office itself but certainly not the man. He holds a position of authority that the American people put him in and we must respect that fact. But the fact he leads a party that still calls us “terrorists” or that we intentionally kill civilians, whose appointed/unelected politicial cronies leak critical information and vital secrets, whose Senate confirmed VA secretary attempted to push vets to pay for service & combat related injuries…I called it last year, this is Obama’s “Bonus Army” .

P.S. Erick, thanks for refraining from calling us that horrid title.

Obama seems to feed on public adoration, and the ceremony at Arlington does not provide narcisstic food. Obama the delegator wouldn’t be so bad if he had better judgement in who he surrounds himself with.

The dead do and always should upstage any President. The President should attend if possible, no matter who he is, to acknowledge the relationship of the Office, not the man.

President Obama’s weakness is the content of his speeches, and they are especially weak when he has to be empathetic, compassionate or unifying. The correct words and actions concerning sacraficial death are the hardest for a President to get right. Gettysburg is a prime example. And in contrast, tObama’s words at the signing of the bill in memory of Daniel Pearl shows how important that task is.

Coincidently, Arlington was established as a military cemetery during the Civil War, and you would think the current President with his Lincoln obsession would want to participate.

  • nateleyswhore

of the Boy Wonder’s political confusion and physical weakness ( you need another vacation? You’re the POTUS for heaven’s sake!) than it really outrages me. To me it communicates a great deal more to the country that he is ducking this responsibility for a little R&R back in the den of thieves he crawled out of. I’m glad he’s not going for the simple reason that it furthers the cause of him losing that responsibility for good on Memorial Day, 2013.

  • http://www.helpawhiteguy.com livefreenh

Obama himself said that “words matter”. This is what a college professor might say. I say that “actions speak louder than words.” This is what people say who get things done. Either way, this proves that Obama loathes America.

Get that son of a biscuit AWAY from the hallowed ground cradling our heroes. He does not deserve to stand there, much less gaze upon the tomb of the unknown soldier. He is a disgrace to this country, and I feel so sorry for the soldiers that have to call him “sir.”

  • stephaniet

send someone who *does* respect and honor our heroic, honored dead. I am 18 years old. Were this man not the president, I might actually join the military. However, I refuse to get in a position where I’d have to call him my commander-in-chief. Those soldiers that do, though perhaps through gritted teeth, have my undying admiration.

I say let this story fester for many of our fathers fought to keep this nation free, Many of our mother?s spent time waiting, wondering, if their love, husband would come home, or they did what they could to support the effort here back home such as working in the factories or saving every small piece of metal or lead so that would go to the ammo their husbands or fathers needed to win the war. Let the shame of this President worm in you. This is Barack?s America. Don?t let them call you racist for wanting to take it back. Stop and think for a moment everyone of those brave fallen soldiers had someone back home that loved them, that they loved, that they wanted to come home to? everyone of those soldiers had that inner fear that they might not come home and yet they fought that feeling down to go in to battle and give their life so that a Nation of Many could remain free, that gift, so precious a gift, to give life?s blood for so many is being shamed by those who hate this Nation for its greatness. Each of us beneficiaries? of their gift and to not honor our fallen is a slap in the face to the sacrifice they made. Our nation is so much better than Barack Hessian Obama. Let them try to call you racist for loving your Nation, your fallen, your Hero?s, but Honor and Dignity, win over this shame of this President. HOW DARE HE!!! One final word: NOVEMBER

For the record, Erick, I wasn’t defending Obama skipping Memorial Day. I’d prefer he go. I just don’t confuse my preference with moral imperative.

I was instead pointing that your 2nd tweet on the subject earlier today was circular gibberish designed to score a cheap political point, at the expense of coherence.

    Said you:

“Diff b/w Reagan and Bush not going to Tomb and Obama? No one questioned their support for soldiers and belief in American Exceptionalism.” about 8 hours ago via Twitter for iPhone

That’s an amazing feedback loop you’ve set up. Reagan and Bush were allowed to skip the ceremony, and avoid your scrutiny, because GOP pundits didn’t invent any absurd “questions” about their “support” for troops. Obama has to attend to answer the “someone” (translation: YOU) who questions his support for troops.

You’re the one using dead American soldiers as props. You’re the one using Obama’s ceremonial proximity to their remains to score points.

That’s all well and good. No one expects any better of you anymore. But don’t pretend your shrieks are a coherent argument.

  • Achance

Comrade Obama’s support for the troops; we’re all well aware that he doesn’t support them. Most here don’t even believe that he supports America, at least any America that most of us would recognize and want to be a part of. But, you seem to be happy with him, which means you probably won’t be here long.

  • streiff

that’s not what he’s saying but as you apparently don’t read English terribly well explaining it would be lost on you.

  • http://hillbillypolitics.com Steph C

    Not the expanded version here.

I don’t want him to go. Sorry, but, I don’t. The last time he went, he couldn’t even do a credible job of honoring our fallen with his “I see dead people” remark. All he does is offend with his schmoozing. Let him go to Chicago and schmooze.

  • Richard Mullins

and if Obama had respect for his role as Commander-in-chief, he would go to Arlington and then later to Bethesda Naval hospital to talk with our wounded troops. The fact that he isn’t going when there isn’t much reason for not going, puts he’s resolve to the test. He really doesn’t seem to care. Thats the message coming here. What happened when Reagan and GHW Bush didn’t make it were reasons that made sense. All you have done is put up a strawman argument.

  • kapact

While he may not have a moral right, in his role as Commander in Chief of the armed forces, he is required to salute.

  • callmeroy

Next, From Sunday’s 07 Sept. 2008 11:48:04 EST, Televised “Meet the Press” THE THEN Senator Obama was asked about his stance on the American Flag. General Bill Ginn’ USAF (ret.) asked Barry Barak Hussen Obama to explain WHY he doesn’t follow protocol when the National Anthem is played. The General stated to Obama that according to the United States Code, Title 36, Chapter 10, Sec. 171…During rendition of the national anthem, when the flag is displayed, all present (except those in uniform) are expected to stand at attention facing the flag with the right hand over the heart. Or, at the very least, “Stand and Face It”. ‘Senator’ Obama replied: “As I’ve said about the flag pin, I don’t want to be perceived as taking sides”. “There are a lot of people in the world to whom the American flag is a symbol of oppression..” “The anthem itself conveys a war-like message. You know, the bombs bursting in air and all that sort of thing.”

  • callmeroy

First we had the border control agent fiasco of Ignacio Ramos and Jose Compean which President Bush totally mismanaged because of his One World Government desires (which involves Mexico, Canada, and US). By the way, why did George not pardon these two brave men after they spent time in prison for nothing? Then we had the Navy Seal boondoggle which under Barry Hussen brought a corrupt decision of prosecution by Major General Cleveland who supported Barry Hussen’s coup with some “Anointed One” lovers in the Pentagon. Every person in the military knows that Barry Barak Hussen Obama is trying to undermine and destroy our military and the American way of life. Example: when the Somali pirates captured Captain Richard Phillips of a merchant ship, the Navy Seals were told to stand down by the White House, and they did until they understood Barry Hussen was never going to act against the Muslim Somali pirates. It was decided to follow a rule where under duress they could act without direct orders bypassing Barry Hussen. They killed the pirates and Barry Hussen then took credit but was furious. Many people in the military think the Navy Seal prosecution was Barry Hussen’s payback against the Navy Seal response to the Somali pirates. By the way, where was the news coverage of CNN, NBC, CBS, ABC, and MSNBS, PBS, and NPR about these brave American soldiers? What a disgrace these news organizations are to America. Now we have this. Remember, America, we have 2 1/2 more years of Barry Barak Hussen Obama. Pray to God each day for America and its soldiers.

  • callmeroy

Maybe Barry Hussen will be taking another beautiful afternoon drive soon over to see Franklin and Billy Graham to let them know what he found out. You know, remember? A few weeks ago? When Barry went to visit Graham and Billy right after the Pentagon revoked Franklin’s visit at the Pentagon?s National Day of Prayer service. Franklin Graham said he and Obama spoke briefly about the Pentagon spat, with the younger Graham saying that activists with an agenda were trying to pull all religion out of the military. “I wanted to make him aware of that,” Franklin Graham said. “He said he would look into it.”
    Maybe Barry found out?
