EDITOR OF REDSTATE

The nocturnal excretions of toenail clipping stalkers

Ben Smith of the Politico called Will Folks “credible” when the “inappropriate physical relationship” story broke. Michael Brendan Doughtery called him “revered” and said “His reputation since leaving the governor’s office has only increased. He has become South Carolina’s essential political blogger.”

Like the only two movie critics quoted on a movie scoring 5% at Rotten Tomatoes, those quotes may come back to . . . . hahahahahaha . . . . who am I kidding — there’s no accountability for the circle of young beltway journalist-pundits who hang together and consider diversity of thought ordering two different things at Ben’s Chili Bowl while discussing how actual conservatives suck.

In any event, as things start dribbling out about Will Folks and what he may or may not have and may or may not have done, a more and more disturbing picture of him is taking shape — we’ve got some stalker vibe going on. Maybe ‘inappropriate physical contact’ happened after all. I get a real “collecting toenails and hair and building a ‘companion’ to share late night microwave burritos in the basement with” vibe that would make even a San Franciscan nervous. Maybe.

In fact, this picture of Kos had been the gold standard for stalker vibe among the bloggerati and we may now have a new gold standard.

With a fist in Nikki Haley’s face and some totally creepy . . . . I’m at a loss here . . . . creepiness (?) going on, I present to you the Will Folks video interview of Nikki Haley that Folks apparently put together himself.

This is from last year.

And Verum Serum gets all the credit for putting this on the RedState radar.

Let’s go to Ace with more on this including:

What’s he doing smuggling in not one but several “jokes” about beating up Nikki Haley in this video?

If he’s innocent, I guess I sort of understand that he doesn’t think he should be branded as a woman-beater.. and yet… Does that extend to making jokes about giving Haley a taste of his knuckles?

I guess so.

And then he has a shot of “Nikki Haley” shuddering in fear.

WTF?

Now, parting thought here: I have it on very good authority from a third party group not connected to any of the campaigns that Folks was trying to sell this story last year. Sell it.

In 2008, Will Folks invaded the privacy of a conservative Ohio University student who wrote for TownHall.com and talked about performing sexual acts on her…

Look at him posting a photo of himself with Haley

    http://tinyurl.com/27hblqk

On his website there’s an article asking whether Haley will usual a law to block the release of her emails:
    http://tinyurl.com/283x5g6

The closing line is one of the goofiest I have ever read:

“In the event Haley is as serious about transparency as she claims, we would encourage her to turn over all of her computers and cell phones for the same purpose ? particularly her taxpayer-funded devices.

Of course, if she wants to cite a legislative exemption, that?s obviously up to her as well.”

It’s almost as if they’re baiting her into using the law. I wonder if this is his plan: create a bunch of insinuations against here, promise to release the emails and phone messages, and then say, “oh, we weren’t allowed” to get out of the situation. Perhaps there is something else they know about in those emails which is not a big deal but still embarrasing and they know she will hesitate to release, so they put her in a jam where if she does release the files, some other “scandal” arises, and if she doesn’t, they get to imply that’s she’s afraid of being implicated in an affair she denied having.

Whatever happens, should be some fireworks to watch.

They aren’t on the system. Folks has been around long enough to know this. Obviously, even if Haley “turned over” her computers, you can’t prove a negative and he would just claim they were deleted.

Now he claims “proof” – just after saying he will say no more about. Sorry, it’s a cynical plan to maximize attention for him and damage to her. As a well-known Lowcountry liberal poli-sci prof said:

“Longtime South Carolina political analyst Neal Thigpen, a retired Francis Marion University professor, said Folks’ claims are suspect. Thigpen said Folks’ blog aren’t always truthful and Thigpen said he suspects that another campaign put Folks up to launching an attack on Haley.

“I would not say it’s par for the course,” Thigpen said. “We’ve had a lot of bare-knuckles stuff here over the years, but this comes particularly as Representative Haley is on a roll. Why at this moment? It’s obviously structured to try and stop her momentum.”

Hope she keeps her chin up, keeps her cool and keeps campaigning.

Conservatives, UNITE! CHANGE the Republican Party and save the world by UNITING INSIDE the Party as precinct committeemen. NOW!

  • c17wife

bit creepy. That video made my skin crawl.

Lastly, I think Folks probably did have an affair with Nikki Haley. In HIS wild, wet dreams. In a galaxy far, far away from here.

  • Adjoran

saying it was their “known operatives” who pressured him into the revelation – without naming them, of course.

But Barrett flatly denied involvement and condemned the allegation. So did McMaster, who made a point of saying he doesn’t believe it.

Of course Haley has been heard from . . . who is missing here? Is it someone with some past friendly connections with Folks? Someone whose chances would be revived if Folks’ allegations managed to damage TWO of the other candidates?

    Oh, Aaaaaaandreeeee, where aaaaarrrreee you?

Bauer is another strange character. If it came out that he and Folks made “crush videos” together, no one would be particularly surprised.

  • pamela1631

squish factor of this matter even exceeds the cleanup from an all week frat house party.

Can Nikki get a restraining order against this cretin?

  • Adjoran

Of course, as a public figure, she would face an almost impossible standard of proof, the loser has no assets to collect if she won, and suing him would only ensure that the story remains in the headlines through the primary and general elections, although resolution could take years.

I don’t know if Folks was in a frat or not, but if he was I bet his nickname was “Booger” . . .

  • eburke

Mark Sanford *and* Nikki…so, should we assume that his next ‘exclusive bombshell’ is that they had a threesome in Cancun that involved ‘inappropriate physical contact?’

when I saw his pic. So, either he needs to make these fantasies up because its the only action he gets, or violence was involved.

  • earlgrey

She has a campaign to run and should be allowed to run it without people demanding she prove her innocence by filing a lawsuit.

The courts are tied up enough with frivolous lawsuits.

  • willsarkfeld

I’m a huge supporter of Haley and RedState, first of all, and I’m glad Erick and the rest of the RedStaters here have for the most part been supporting Haley through this over the past few days.

My problem is that now that creep Folks has posted alleged text messages on his site, BUT, the Haley campaign manager has confirmed they are legit, but denies that Haley and McCreepy had an affair!!!!

    See: h ttp://politicalticker.blogs.cnn.com/2010/05/26/trending-s-c-blogger-reveals-texts-with-top-haley-aide/?fbid=gLmj-uXvYzD

(I usually wouldn’t link to the lamestream media CNN, but since they put Erick on air, I’ll make an exception)…

What are we supposed to make of this? Maybe I’m overreacting here, but I certainly hope Haley is able to show that Folks is a 100% liar, because if not, this is going to be very bad for her and RedState.

  • streiff

and tell us what you think.

BTW, it isn’t incumbent upon Haley to prove anything. She has denied the story in the strongest terms. It is up to Quasimodo to provide proof.

  • RedLeader

I read the article linked in your post, and it doesn’t sound good. They’re text messages between Folks and Haley’s campaign manager basically talking about how to cover this up. Granted, that doesn’t necessarily mean that there was an affair. They could have just gotten wind that a rumor was going public or something. But it definitely doesn’t sound good.

And Folks is saying he has more that he hasn’t released.

  • http://moelane.com/ Moe Lane

Actually, no, from Pearson’s point of view they’re a series of texts on how to make a BS story go away. You probably should reread them again. :)

  • eburke

made a completely stupid, asinine remark who is either totally lacking in reading comprehension…or a shill…or both.

I tell ya, you guys make it to the Big House and the next thing ya know you become part of the corporate machine and become a tool of the capitalist whores whose sole reason for existence is to put down the little guy.

First Erick at CNN…now you at Human Events.

What *is* this world coming to. Sigh!

  • http://moelane.com/ Moe Lane

Oh, well, by now it’s fairly obvious from context: moby, troublemaker, registered an account to cause trouble for a minority conservative.

    Ta.
