The Andre Bauer Campaign Strategy: From Wh*re to ‘Raghead’ With David Brody In Between

Well, Andre Bauer’s campaign to paint Nikki Haley as a two-timing wh*re — and you’ll have to forgive me if you object to the word, but that is exactly what the dribbling out of “I slept with Nikki Haley” stories was designed to do — blew up in his face.

Now he’s moved on to her being a raghead.

What’s funny is that the same players are involved in both stories, but this time they’ve roped in CBN’s David Brody.

That’s a bold statement, I know, but let’s treat it as fact whether Brody protests or not. Why? Because it is.

The fact is, a lot of Andre Bauer’s core backers run in circles that would give them easy access to David Brody, who is CBN’s White House correspondent and a man who claimed those of us noting Barack Obama’s support of infanticide in the Illinois legislature, which is an objective fact, were being “shrill” for pointing it out. David Brody is also the reporter who showed up on CNN a while back to talk about what was happening at a totally off the record meeting.

In a search of David Brody’s “Brody Files” website today, he has never before written about Nikki Haley. Then lo and behold, today David Brody writes about Nikki Haley’s religious background and notes that when she first ran for office, the press played up her background as a Sikh and her campaign website did not mention she is a Methodist.

Then we get this curious paragraph:

The fact that the Haley campaigned changed the wording on the website led The Brody File to do some digging. The Brody File has uncovered documents and details that show an emphasis on her Sikh faith and traditions in 2004 when she was running for the State Legislature (even though she became a Christian 7 years earlier)

What a load of nonsense. David Brody did not do any digging. Andre Bauer’s campaign fed him all the information and he willingly unleashed the hit job. He claims he was interested because of the recent allegations of “affairs,” but never goes there where everyone else has been. He goes off on this tangent.

Then guess what?

Andre Bauer’s primary supporter in the state legislature, the man who tried to force out Mark Sanford in a bid to get Bauer into the Governor’s mansion, goes on a political show and calls Nikki Haley a rag head. (More at Red Dog Report)

Jake Knotts is the guy. You know him. He’s allegedly the guy who hired a private investigator to look into Will Folks. He is the guy whose private investigator allegedly took a picture proving the affair.

It’s all too convenient. Let me break it down for you: Andre Bauer failed in his bid to paint Nikki Haley as a wh*re, so now he’s trying to paint her as a raghead. David Brody is serving as the useful idiot, most likely willingly. The story got out there this morning and Jake Knotts let loose this afternoon. It’s all designed to move the conversation from “is she a wh*re?” to “is she an American?”

Were Nikki Haley as sleazy as Andre Bauer, I bet we’d start seeing all the salacious Andre Bauer rumors percolating again.

Anyone that votes for either of those men should be embarrassed. The state GOP should disassociate themselves from Knot. If it is impossible to get anyone else on the ticket, release a statement that he’s been kicked out and endorse a Libertarian or even a Democrat. I’m a native South Carolinian, and there should no place for such idiots in the party or government. That is flat out hate, and it is also wildly inaccurate hate (Muslims despise Sikhs) that proves him too ignorant to be much more than a dogcatcher any way.

He is an embarrassment to the state, and I’d rather lose a state senate election than have that man officially sanctioned in any way.

What is a “raghead?” It sounds like some bizarre insult, but I cannot fathom its origin or meaning.

  • http://www.erickerickson.org Erick Erickson

Whose traditional garb involves a cloth worn on the head. In Haley’s case, her father is a Sikh, who wears his hair wrapped in a cloth.

  • Mary Beth

Stereotypical imagery of middle eastern people have them all wearing what looks like rags wrapped around their heads.

But I’m honestly just guessing here.

What is clear is that it’s a racial/cultural slur against her.

  • EagleWatcher

The Left has no moral compass. They will accuse conservatives of sexual sleaze while checking into a motel with a hot chippy. They will accuse conservatives of being Nazis as they themselves express hatred of the Jews and Israel.

The truth is soooooooooo last century. My team must win at all costs. No crime is too great in the pursuit of the defeat my political enemies.

Did I mention that the Left has no moral compass?

  • cactusjack

I did not know Ms Haley had Sikh background. Having met those from the Sikh community here in the US, my esteem for her has only further increased, wish I could vote for her now (not SC resident). How sickening her enemies resort to trying to make this into a pejorative.

  • duke90

a very offensive slur against Middle Eastern Muslims or (less frequently) Arabs. Sikhs are neither, though practicing Sikh men do wear head turbans. Sikhs are overwhelmingly Indian, and they are historically oppressed by Muslims and Hindus. I suspect that is one reason they have a strong military tradition, and a high rate of winning honors in military service.

It didn’t help relations with Hindus that Sikh bodyguards killed Indian Prime Minister Indira Gandhi in the mid 80′s.

BTW Sikh is by definition not same religion as Islam.

There is no “left” in South Carolina. Even South Carolina Democrats are at most slightly left of center by national standards.

This is a Republican state senator, and he should be kicked out of the party. This is nothing like the Trent Lott incident where the press created controversy, or even the incident with George Allen. There is no defense for using such a term, and the state GOP should publicly and forcefully disassociate themselves from Knotts.

…this would seem to be a bit of a non-sequitur here since the sleazy, baseless accusations are coming from another Republican. Replace “Left” with “Old Boy Network” and everything fits.

Not that your points aren’t true of the Left, of course.

If this race wasn’t over before, it is now. The other candidates have made themselves unviable, simply by being masogenists and racists.

I never realized how dirty South Carolina politics was.

It all comes down to the good people of South Carolina.

I am trusting that they can see through the lies and are going to Vote for Nikki Haley!

  • http://www.columbiateaparty.org conservativensc

Unfortunately SC politics have been dirty for awhile. That is why we desperately need Nikki Haley as Governor. She’ll clean it up and it will begin with Roll Call aka: H3047.

Thank you again Erick and Red State. You never cease to amaze me.

  • ZootSuit

Some of you may have been surprised when I wrote that if Andre Bauer won the Republican nomination I am voting for the Democrat. And I was, and still am, quite serious. Andre Bauer is that bad and this latest incident is just another example of the way him and many of his supporters operate.

  • redtillimdead

Unfortunately, everything I see leads me to believe he is not up for re-election until 2012.

  • redtillimdead

Which makes it even worse. The left has nothing to do with this.

  • redtillimdead

I have heard a lot about him. While I do not live in SC, I have said before that if he wins the nomination, I’d rather have 4 yrs of a Conservative Democrat than 4- or worse- 8 years of Bauer.

  • ZootSuit

This is about Republicans — indeed, Republicans who consider themselves (especially social) conservatives — attempting to destroy another using racial, ethnic and “gender-based” slurs and lies. The MSM — or the Left, the same thing, actually — is honestly just doing their jobs by reporting it. Not reporting what South Carolina State Senator Jake Knotts, would have been a crime.

By the way, Jake Knotts, in that same interview also called President Obama a “raghead.” Quite frankly, if it is insulting and baseless to call Nikki Haley a “raghead” — and I think it is — I think it is just as insulting and baseless to call Barack Obama the same thing.

  • jenniferjmilleresq

switched from Democrat to Republican in the 80s and have been around for decades in office and beyond that, the vast majority of Republicans in the General Assembly have “F” ratings from the Club for Growth (for their votes on spending, taxes, accountability, openness, etc.). They are protecting their power and hiding their actions as a group. Believe me, ideology is non-existent here except in a few true conservatives like Nikki Haley.

  • http://www.suvstrategery.blogspot.com SoFiMil

The left, however, believes (or at least puts out the talking point) that it’s the other way around.

  • merryj1

I think that type is not really — at the core — Republican or Democrat, Conservative or liberal, right or left. They are pragmatic opportunists who have no “there, there” in terms of ideology, principles or morals

They may feel strongly about an issue — could be environment, abortion or you-name-it; but their ‘strong feeling’ has more to do with therir self-image and its link to that issue, some bizarre delusion of associative exceptionality tied into it, than to any perceived ‘greater good’ they may claim to represent.

And, you’re right — it’s no more acceptable to toss baseless insults at the President than at Nikki Haley, or anyone else.

    I must’ve double-clicked.

The full quote, per multiple media sources was as follows:

?We already got one raghead in the White House, we don?t need a raghead in the governor?s mansion.”

So, Knotts is implying that Haley and Obama are both Secret Muslims, which is fairly despicable. Or something along those lines.

Apparently, this internet interview was not recorded by the people producing the show because of technical difficulties. Hopefully someone out in the listening public recorded Bauer saying “r–h—” and can share it with us.

Bauer’s aide wants it posted as well.Yeah, right.

About having and affair with someone to protect or promote their candidate… just think of the Name John Edwards. His PO admitted on TV that he was having an affair with and had a baby with Rielle Hunter. But then we find out it was Edwards having the affair and the live child was his as well.

I haven’t seen this kind of slime anywhere and I was in the business.

All I can say is if folks are duped by political operatives from two campaigns that are in 3rd and 4th place in the Governors race, I have some pristine land in Florida to sell you.. cheap.

One thing is for sure Erick and others are not buying the stories because the source of the allegations and lack of tangible evidence is absent.

Jake Knotts is what is wrong with the fringe of the party. He should resign and go back to his Lodge and Sons of the Confederacy meetings.

  • Adjoran

We are witnessing the desperate attempts of the establishment, who thought they were finally rid of the annoyance of Sanford and his constant spotlighting of their excesses, to get one of their own in the top job.

SC has a weak governor, the result of an unfortunate constitutional change approved by the voters, and an entrenched culture of legislative corruption. Haley is a reformer, so she must be stopped. But even if elected, she faces the same odds as Sanford has, unless voters finally awaken and throw their local crooks to the curb.

For those with any doubts of the “infidelity” allegations, search out pictures of Haley, then her husband, and finally Folks and Marchant. If she was going to cheat, would she go for ugly sleazebag losers like these guys, honestly?

There are no “Bauer rumors” to spread; there are only Bauer facts, and polite people don’t talk about such things where children or unmarried people might have access to them.

  • gretske

Don’t be fooled by those who claim this is not a left vs. right thing, it most definitely is. The local newspaper in Columbia, a yellow journalism cesspool, repeated the story daily on the front page, even though there is not a single shred of evidence to support it.

This is the same newspaper, The State, that once had a front page story which asked the burning question, How Can Anyone Be A Conservative Now That Mark Sanford Has Had A Affair? I’m dead serious. Inquiring minds want to know!

They are boiling mad that tea partiers back Haley, and they are doing their utmost to destroy her through innuendo and outright lies. I just cancelled my subscription to this worthless rag, so I guess I no longer a raghead.

    Why SC smells so bad

  • america1st

I find “slimy weasel” is an exact synonym for “andre bauer.” This worm’s politics are immaterial; anyone with such a character is unworthy of any position of authority, much less public office. And yes, I do recognize his behavior is consistent with Cook County dimocrats – but this only validates my contention.

  • http://www.helpawhiteguy.com livefreenh

…how we get slammed by using charged words like “raghead” and “whore” but for some reason, the invented word “teabagger” is OK to use, even by a sitting president (or even one that is bowing, or even one on his knees!)

    Thank god for Urban Dictionary.

Good Gawd. You’d think with all the GOP politicians that lost their jobs in ’10 and ’08 that the voters could have fired this one. What exactly attracts the electorate to this man? Anything?

Sarah is apparently making robocalls for Nikki.

    Not backing down AT ALL!

  • http://www.reddogreport.com reddogreport

Just like Nikki, we press on. The name calling is just a diversion to distract us from achieving our goal of low taxes, limited government and true Constitutional freedom. When we focus on or argue about the names that they use, we lose sight of our goal and are no longer working toward it.

Nikki has focused on the election, not the name-calling and that is why she still leads in the polls.

Let the President call us all the names he wants; my only response to him will to be a smile when the press begins to refer to him as former President Obama in 2013. :0

This is no surprise. Politics have become dirtier and dirtier. Both parties are guilty but Liberal Democrats seem to be worse. If you watch TV at all, or blog/comment on the internet, you can easily see how, in general, human beings are becoming less and less respecful towards one another. However, this really is no suprise because it starts at the White House and works it’s way to the general public.

We know that Sikh is neither Moslem nor Hindu.
Barrack Hussein Obama is a SOCIALIST with Marxist training.
Nikki Haley gives me the impression of nobility, grace, and poise.
The Sikh people have been well noted for those traits.
She is also a Methodist good hearted and good natured.
They also will NOT raid your liquor cabinet when you’re not looking.
During my high school years, my friends consisted of members of
various different minority ethnic groups with one Methodist.

If he isn’t on the ballot, is that something you can do there?

And have any SC natives called their State Senators to suggest that censure/expulsion might be in order?

It would be nice to make an example of this tool.

A United Methodist Church is a real easy place to be a CINO (Christian In Name Only). They are very accommodating– Bill Clinton found a welcome home there while unsuccessfully defending himself from accusations of adultery.
