Jim DeMint Has Not Endorsed Gresham Barrett.

Gresham Barrett is trotting around South Carolina alluding to a Jim DeMint endorsement to combat Sarah Palin and Mitt Romney endorsing Nikki Haley.

There’s just one problem.

Jim DeMint has not endorsed Gresham Barrett. In fact, DeMint has been upfront about staying out of the primary and I cannot imagine him endorsing Gresham Barrett over a conservative rockstar like Nikki Haley.

This is an act of desperation on the TARP supporter’s part.

Conservatives across the nation have lined up behind Nikki Haley and Jim DeMint has remarkably eschewed friendship for solid conservative picks around the country.

I know it would be tough given their friendship, but I cannot imagine Jim DeMint endorsing a guy who voted for TARP and was sponsoring VAT legislation in the House of Representatives. It’d put the only man to score 100% on the Senate Conservatives Fund scorecard to the left of conservatives here at RedState and across the country, not to mention Sarah Palin and Mitt Romney.

With polling showing Nikki Haley going into a runoff with a 20% lead, the logical choice is for DeMint to do as he has always done — eschew friendship in favor of solid conservatism and endorse Nikki Haley.

I have relatives that live there.. They say it is getting quite nasty out there today. They are literally attempting to destroy her.

Nikki is not a part of “the good ol’ boys club”. They don’t like her – they are threatened by her & they don’t want her messing with their good thing. She’ll do to SC politics what Sarah Palin did to Alaska’s. I’m a SC voter & I’m voting for Nikki Haley & Bill Connors. It’s time for a new game, boys…..And, oh, by the way, if you don’t have the goods on her – shut up.

Just occurred to me that I can’t think of one, but maybe I’m missing something. I wish he would make this his first.

My understanding is that both DeMint and Graham are going to wait this primary out, and had decided on that before any of this happened.

Barrett’s commercial just quotes DeMint as saying Barrett is “a true conservative and has done a good job for South Carolina,” but that may not even be a recent quote (could be from Barrett’s last general election campaign, for example).

Our Senators and Congressmen have a tradition of not endorsing candidates for in-state primary contests. It just makes it easier to unite the parties after the primaries.

There has been some talk that if Barrett finishes in second, but 20 points or more behind and Haley close to 50%, he might not contest the run-off in the name of party unity. It would be tough for him or anyone to make up that kind of ground in a short time.

The most important thing is that the lying little creep Andre Bauer finishes dead last, down in the cesspool with the sludge and muck – he’ll be right at home.
