EDITOR OF REDSTATE

(202) 225-2815

It is not enough for either us or our Republican congressmen to sit on the sidelines with Obamacare’s mandates ever approaching.

It is time to take action.

As I explained last week, Rep. Steve King has filed a discharge petition on legislation to repeal Obamacare. If he gets 218 signatures on his petition, Nancy Pelosi is forced to have a vote on the legislation whether she wants to or not.

The petition and accompanying legislation are not muddied down with the “repeal and replace” nonsense — just plain and simple repeal. You know, exactly what the American people say they want in poll after poll after poll after poll.

In the Republican leadership, Congressman Mike Pence has already signed the petition. House Minority Leader John Boehner will be signing it this week.

That means we need to all call Congressman Eric Cantor at (202) 225-2815 and politely ask him to sign it this week too.

There is no excuse for the Republican leadership to not sign this petition. In fact, as the leaders of the GOP in the House, they should go first. Their failure to do so is an explicit admission they’ve been lying about their desire to repeal Obamacare.

Let’s not muddy the waters. Let’s not fight over which provisions to keep, tweak, save, or reform. Let’s have our leaders listen to the American people and repeal Obamacare.

We’re going member by member posting their Congressional office phone numbers and having people call. The members will either sign the petition or their failure to act will be proof they are liars when they say they favor repeal.

If you want more information, Heritage Action for America is spearheading this effort. It’s time for the House Republicans to put up or shut up. All they have to do is sign Rep. Steve King’s petition.

See if your Rep has signed the petition,

    My Rep (Jeb Hensarling) has.

thanks, Eric, for highlighting Rep. King’s effort on
    RedState.

    I have it posted on

    Let’s get Cantor’s signature!

I hope this is a good sign and will continue to call until I can get through. Of course my representative Kathy Castor won’t sign but I can still call her and tell her what I think. I do enjoy that. ANYBODY BUT CASTOR.

My GOP congressman opposed the original bill, but hasn’t signed the petition yet. I just dropped him a respectful email urging him to do so.

For others in a similar situation, feel free to borrow or copy any of this language I used:

My wife and I very much appreciate your opposition to Obamacare, and we would urge your signature on Discharge Petition 0011. This would free H.R. 4972, the repeal of Obamacare, from committee and bring it to a swift floor vote.

Thanks again for your great work in this area. Please keep it up.

of South Carolina hasn’t signed yet, but he’s been campaigning for a position in county government (which he lost). Should be a no brainer for him, and he’ll hear from me today.

Just gave the Cantor’s office a call, and the staff member said she’d pass my request on to the Congressman. 20 seconds out of your day. Not too much to ask. Let’s get this done!

  • jmimac351

And he said the phones have been ringing off the hook about this issue.

  • melissatx

Nice people. Unlike the Veep, they have a sense of humor, too.
Ditto on the phones being busy. “Charles” said it was like running a PBS telethon.

I got the irony in that.

both Mr. Cantor, and my representative. Less than a minute of time.
    Thanks, everyone!

on the first try. Although the aid said they had had a ton of calls, he did not commit to Cantor signing.

The aid said he would pass it along. Get on the phones until the aid says Cantor will be signing!!!

If you don’t call Cantor’s office and your local representative, NOW, you will become just another RedState do nothing. Don’t let that happen to you, ’cause this is way too important.

His (Peter Roskam’s) aid said he would be back in DC this afternoon and reiterated multiple times Roskam was opposed to HCR, and aid was almost 100% sure he would vote for repeal. Aid didn’t know anything about the discharge petition, but now she does. I look for Roskam to sign once he returns to DC (his office will update me on this).

  • tlhanger

    Just made the call.

  • joecollins

An unexpected benefit was Congressman’s Cantor staff was pleasant. I guess I am accustomed to the staff of my own elected nobility – Susan Davis . Her staff is RUDE.

  • tex41lb

Very polite. No comment other then it will be reffered to Cantor.

    Next!

  • rightwingmom52

and asked them to sign King’s petition. I told them the time for talking was over. It’s time to see some action.

Bill Young (R) Pinellas County RINO has not signed the Discharge Petition and his office obfuscation response was that the “Congressman is opposed to Obama’s Health Care; NO direct response to the Discharge Petition and when questioned would only repeat the above statement. Don’t put your faith in 2010 on republicans, they are just the other side of the same coin with the demoncats. This battle is all up hill, with “friendly fire” mixed in.
