1. Eric Cantor and John Boehner Don’t Really Want to Repeal Obamacare

Well, it is official.Eric Cantor and John Boehner — particularly Eric Cantor — have decided they don’t need or want conservatives and, more troubling, do not have any intention of trying to win at the polls by forcing Democrat hands on Obamacare.Our leadership is behaving badly.Last week and on Monday I mentioned Rep. Steve King’s effort to repeal Obamacare and start over. He’s filed a discharge petition. If he gets 218 signatures, Nancy Pelosi must hold a vote.At the time, I was hearing that Eric Cantor was desperate to undermine Steve King’s efforts and, sure enough, he’s trying. Eric Cantor and John Boehner are out today spinning furiously that their discharge petition is better than Steve King’s discharge petition.Except there is a fundamental flaw: they have a premature discharge problem.No, premature discharge is not a problem that can be cured with a pill.In order to have a discharge petition, the legislation to be discharged — that is forced to the floor of the House of Representatives whether or not the Speaker wants it — must have been submitted for some time before a discharge petition is timely.To file a discharge petition before the legislation to be discharged has “ripened”, so to speak, does not work — it is prematurely discharged.Well, Eric Cantor and John Boehner really don’t want to deal with a “repeal Obamacare” discharge petition. So they signed it thinking it would give them the cover they needed to undermine it.While signing Steve King’s discharge petition, Cantor and Boehner also set about getting signatures on Representative Wally Herger’s competing discharge petition for legislation that would not just repeal Obamacare, but would also replace it with something else — something not everyone on the GOP side even wants.Guess what? Herger’s legislation has not ripened. Were Cantor and Boehner to get 218 signatures for Herger’s petition tomorrow, it would do no good.Please click here for the rest of the post.

3. Inspiration for Obamanomics: Wimpy

Coming out of the G20 summit, there was some good news and some bad news. I would say the good news was that our allies were able to convince our administration that we need to cut our deficit in half by 2013 after it was tripled in the first year of this administration. The bad news is that we see little intention by the Obama Administration to really follow through when we continue to see more and more requests for stimulus funding. This is on top of $787 billion in stimulus last year that resulted in 4 million private sector jobs being lost. Now the Democrats aren’t even drafting a budget. According to the president’s own budget director, he said that asking the Democrats to cut spending this year would be a ‘fruitless exercise’ that would probably ‘go nowhere.’ Yet, the American people all across this country are demanding better. They would like to see some leadership from Congress to get our fiscal house in order.Please click here for the rest of the post.

In 2000 the Supreme Court struck down Nebraska’s PBA ban, citing a statement from the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists that PBA might be the best choice for a woman under certain circumstances. That statement was also used later to fight against a federal PBA ban signed by Bush. We now find out that the ACOG didn’t come up with that language – just the opposite initially in fact – Elena Kagan just made it up and it got inserted into the final report.Shannen Coffin was a Deputy AG under Bush who was involved in defending the federal PBA ban.
