The Associated Press Takes Sides Again

Consistent with the operations of the 29% fringe political elites who have no problem with the Ground Zero mosque, the Associated Press has ordered a full stop on usage of “Ground Zero Mosque.”

We should continue to avoid the phrase “ground zero mosque” or “mosque at ground zero” on all platforms. (We’ve very rarely used this wording, except in slugs, though we sometimes see other news sources using the term.) The site of the proposed Islamic center and mosque is not at ground zero, but two blocks away in a busy commercial area. We should continue to say it’s “near” ground zero, or two blocks away.

There’s just one problem — the Mosque is at Ground Zero. The building in which it will be built was damaged by the landing gear of one of the aircraft that hit the World Trade Center.

Not to repeat what we’ve already written, but the fact is that the groups behind the “Ground Zero mosque” / Cordoba House / Park51 chose the site explicitly for its proximity to Ground Zero, and then spent months boasting about it in the press. Those groups are the Cordoba Initiative (run by Feisal Abdul Rauf, the “Ground Zero mosque’s” imam-to-be); the American Society for Muslim Advancement, or ASMA (run by Rauf’s wife, Daisy Khan); and SoHo Properties (run by the aforementioned Sharif el-Gamal, its CEO). Just a few brief but illustrative examples from the principals:

  • A December 8th, 2009, New York Times article stated, “The location [next to Ground Zero] was precisely a key selling point for the group of Muslims,” and quoted Rauf as noting that they got a property “where a piece of the [9/11] wreckage fell.” ASMA then touted the piece in its 2009 Year End Report.
  • A simple Google search of the Cordoba Initiative’s website reveals the phrase “Ground Zero” to be seeded throughout as a rather inept 1999-era SEO tactic to bring people looking for information about Ground Zero to the mosque promoters’ website.
  • On May 5th and 6th, ASMA’s Daisy Khan was on her Twitter account, boasting first that the “new muslim center near ground zero gets unaminous vote of approval from community board one in downtown nyc,” and then that she had a “Media blitz day for ASMA / Cordoba [on the] muslim commuity center near ground zero.”

  • On June 15th, Daisy Khan told the Washington Post’s Sally Quinn that “a divine hand” led to the Ground Zero proximity.

  • Following the eruption of popular anger over their plans, the “Ground Zero mosque’s” proponents are attempting to rewrite history. El-Gamal, as seen above, now tells interviewers that there’s no “Ground Zero” at the “Ground Zero mosque,” and Khan’s tweets have the same phrasing, but a rather different emphasis. From July 28th: a “muslim community center NEAR ground zero.”

This list could go on at some length, but this is sufficient to demonstrate that the “Ground Zero mosque’s” stewards aren’t unfairly tarred by the phrase: they wanted it. Everyone discussing this issue should face this fact squarely and honestly. It’s the “Ground Zero mosque” because it was conceived and intended as the “Ground Zero mosque.”

    COMMENTS

I like to peak at it at least once a day. The stories they cherry pick aren’t obvious unless looked through a guarded filter first. They have blatantly chosen to back the mosque building. All of the stories are timed and slanted-the huffington compost, the times, all garbage timed and selected whenever they want to press their will. It’s traitorous.

I then like to look at the comments and see if people are buying it. I select ‘last’ to look at the comments which have matured and select the highest thumbs up or highest thumbs down then peruse those for insight.

EVERYone hates this mosque building idea no matter how much they try and shove the propaganda down our throats. The AP loses its credibility everytime they slant so heavily against the grain of the people.

    • RedBeard

This truth must be put out there to counteract the propaganda coming from both the GZM backers and from their allies in high places (Pelosi, Obama, etc.)

This thing is not planned as a house of worship or a fellowship center; it’s a victory monument.

Instead of parsing words the AP ought to spend some effort on finding out why this Mosque is funded by the “Cordoba” Initiative.

The word “Cordoba” has been used in speeches by Osama Bin Laden and refers to the islamic plan to recoquer what we call Spain and reestablish a grand mosque in Cordoba. It is a typical islamic oblique reference to the issue of conquest.

The Islamists position on what we call “Ground Zero” is that they took it by force and it now belongs to Islam, and they are to celebrate that fact by putting up a Mosque.

They all understand this, but we, meaning the uniformed, don’t, so we go along with this “in your face” islamic activity.

New Yorkers ought to be outraged at this insidious provocation.

“The site of the proposed Islamic center and mosque is not at ground zero, but two blocks away in a busy commercial area. We should continue to say it?s ?near? ground zero, or two blocks away.”

Wow, two blocks, what is that measured in light-years? The only way to illustrate the ridiculous immateriality of that distance would be to see how fast the idiot that wrote that would have run in order to increase it when that sickening roar made it apparent that there would be a catastrophic failure on 9/11.

The idiot would’ve made an F22 look like it was standing still.

Can we ask Imam Rauf if the Cordoba Center is going to be similar to the Islamic Society of Boston Cultural Center?

A simple yes would tell us all we really need to know, wouldn’t it?

conformity. Now it is for ideological conformity.

Excellent take down of this lie, Erick. As recently as, well, 48 hours ago the Left was claiming this was good thing because it showed tolerance at Ground Zero. Now the fringe (I will not used the modifier “lunatic” any longer because it is redundant) position is that it isn’t at Ground Zero. More and more even people who rely on The Daily Show for news realize what a pack of lies and liars these folks who hold fringe views are.

    • Berean

Realistically, when we state opposition to this we do have to speak to its location and to the fact they are calling it a “cultural center”. When we don’t we just give ammunition to those who want this structure erected.

…..made it clear a long time ago that they are composed of {compost of} the progressive left. The GZM location is being pushed by the progressive left.. so it is no surprise that they will distort truth for each other.

Everyone that I know in NY, who isnt part of the progressive liberal elite, are disgusted by the proposal of the GZM location and by the disgraceful press and NY legislators that are supporting this.

With this distortion, the Dis-Associated Press further downgrades themselves from their already low levels of integrity.

      Hamasque is more accurate anyway.

      That’s a fair question.

and once it’s built it will be off-limits to non-muslims. Might take months for the ‘faithful’ to fill the place up by carrying say 20 kilos each visit.

    • mdd1956

far enough. It has become a euphemism for completely conquering the West.

    • Banjo

Is AP part of Cabalist, successor to JournoList? This would seem to be an excellent example of media message coordination. Local newspapers run copy as it is received, so you can see how the AP comissars mean to manage thought control high and low, far and wide.

Ever since El Rushbo coined it.

      President Obama’s winning streak
      By Eugene Robinson
      http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2010/08/19/AR2010081904771.html

And finally, “President wades into mosque controversy”: Yes, I’m serious. Supporting the mosque in Lower Manhattan didn’t score any political points. But Obama saw his duty to uphold the values of our Constitution and make clear that our fight is against the terrorists, not against Islam itself. Instead of doing what was popular, he did what was right.

The crack in Mr. Robinson’s pipe must have been very strong this morning.

If you are in the Mosque, and it is time for prayers…
Which way is east? Muslims pray to the east, don’t they?

    • dambama

Let’s agree it is within-pissing-distance of Ground Zero.

    • dambama

Consistent with his hatred of America.

A “Ground Zero” location by any other name is still “Ground Zero”. The AP has been out ot touch with the American people for many years now. They think they can pull the wool over our eyes but forget that we have the shears. They wonder why people don’ have faith in them anymore. When people want to hear the news they don’t want to be told what they should think about it. It is not the media’s job to think for us. Their job is simply to Report the Facts and only the Facts if they want to supply their opinion on any subject it should be in a form that people fully understand that it is the opinion of the provider.. Unfortunately the days of reporting are over.
