It has been terrific to hear Rush Limbaugh, Sean Hannity, and Mark Levin come to Christine O’Donnell’s defense.
This race is not about Republicans winning. This is about conservatives not giving in. As Rush Limbaugh said earlier today, there are some Republicans not worth electing. Mike Castle is one of them.
Fight it out in the threads if you want. At least, and praise God, this will end one way or the other tonight.
One downside of this race, frankly, is that I think conservatives who are pouring resources into Delaware should have allocated more for Ovide LaMontagne in New Hampshire, but he seems to be doing ok in the latest polling. But I’d still like to see Christine beat Castle.

kinggold Tuesday, September 14th at 1:49PM EDT (link)Yes, Sean, Rush, and Levin are defending Christine O’Donnell. But they are also demonizing Castle supporters – even conservative ones. I’m a Castle supporter, but I don’t think that O’Donnell supporters are beholden to a certain “ruling class” of people.
Levin opened a dangerous door – and Rush and Sean strolled right through it.
Rush...
Ned Ryerson (Diary) Tuesday, September 14th at 1:56PM EDT (link)Is NOTdemonzing Castle supporters. He is pointing out the HUGE differences between the 2 candidates. Castle is a RINO, big time. Rush is trying to rally the conservatives to stand firm. Castle has an ACU rating of 54 to 58. So he only votes with the conservatives barely half of the time. So it is a coin flip on every vote. At least if the dem wins you know what you get. With Castle you just don’t know which side he is going to come down on. Rush is right! I had to say that….

kinggold Tuesday, September 14th at 2:08PM EDT (link)..is demonizing Castle supporters by saying that they aren’t actually conservative. He’s invoking Codevilla to imply that anyone who isn’t supporting O’Donnell only wishes to empower the ruling class. That isn’t fair at all.
It’s not right to call conservatives “jackasses,” to cast doubt on the integrity of Jim Geraghty and John McCormack, or to imply that all Castle backers want nothing more than to empower RINOs.
He is calling people establishment DC types
JSobieski (Diary) Tuesday, September 14th at 2:13PM EDT (link)for disagreeing on tactics.
I have a lot less to do with the establishment and DC than Rush Limbaugh or Mark Levin do.
What I resent is the characteriziation by Rush that I am a “professional DC -class” Republican despite my support for Twomey in 2004, Rubio in 2009, Miller, Angle, et al.
One can disagree on tactics without having to question the intentions of the other person.
Calling a self-employed conservative from flyover country a “DC establishment professional class type Republican” because on ONE RACE out of numerous races, I don’t support the upstart conservative candidate really hacks me off.
Disagree with me, fine. But calling me part of the DC establishment is both incorrect and insutling. Calling other conservative bloggers like the powerline guys and NRO “DC Establishment types” is an insult.
I am shutting down from politics for a while. This is simply to annoying to aggravating to put up with any more.

Mike gamecock DeVine (Diary) Tuesday, September 14th at 2:37PM EDT (link)isn’t it fair to call someone that supports a DC-Est-type-RINO-liberal the same, at least in this instance? I think so. I also think this is a close call given Krauthammer’s argument on electability, polls, and the fact that if we win the Senate it will probably be by one vote and Castle looks like a sure winner. I would also add that I think I disagree with Rush (listening to the whole show as usual) with respect to the effect of a Castle given a wave election that makes true conservatives the majority of the GOP. We can’t win 51+ senate seats this cycle with only true conservatives. That said, I think you are taking Rush’s criticism a bit too personally and I disagree that you could possibly be LESS establishment type than Rush who has made his career on being anti-est type.
That said, and given that no one will explicitley state in a reply to me exactly what Levin’s lie was, I’ll try and guess:
Was it that Castle voted to impeach Bush?
If so, then it seems allegation of lie is a bit strong, given that he did vote to investigate Bush for purposes of impeachment in what may have been a “pu up or shut up” vote. But given that 160+ Repubs voted against the resolution and given Castle’s statements before the vote, I think its fair to assume Castle’s vote was not a mere tactic.
Rush has said that Castle voted to investigate re impeachment. Levin said Castle voted to impeach? Is that right?
And upon that basis, Levin is a liar?

From reading this what I gather is that Castle and 23 other Rs voted aye along with 225 Ds on a motion to send the Kucinich Resolution back to committee. It is a maneuver that allows the Democratic leadership to freeze the measure indefinitely. This is the vote that Speaker Pelosi wanted because she had repeatedly said she would not support a resolution calling for Bush’s impeachment, saying such a move was unlikely to succeed and would be divisive.
This whole "senate by one vote" meme bothers me.
cwilson (Diary) Tuesday, September 14th at 2:54PM EDT (link)Doesn’t anybody remember 2001, when (with Cheney) we had the Senate by one vote? Do you remember how that went? The idiotic Trent Lott’s “power sharing” agreement?
The most left-leaning members of the Republican caucus controlled everything. ANY Senator — such as the loser of the previous Republican Presidential primary (yes, I’m looking at you, Mr. Maverick) — could derail any legislative item in favor of his pet projects. This is why the 2001 Senate spent two solid legislative weeks (an ETERNITY in Senate time) debating Campaign Finance Reform — McCain’s pet issue — before bothering to get around to the ACTUAL president’s tax proposals, urgently needed in the middle of the dot-com-crash recession. Not that the Honorable Senator From Arizona would EVER let personal pique interfere with the good of the country, oh no…
And then…Jumpin’ Jim Jeffords switched, handling control over to Tom Daschle — at which time Senator *Daschle* controlled the debate over the president’s tax cut agenda.
And you wonder why the Bush tax cuts are going to expire in four months, and were not permanent in the first place? Because in a barely-controlled majority, the guys closest to the opposition control the outcome. Thanks, Mr. Jeffords!
Now, practice saying all of that with “Senator Castle” instead. ‘Cause that’s what we’ll have…

This is not to say that one can’t be wily, strategic, and smart — one should be — but surrendering the principle rarely works out in the long run. The short-term, apparent gain is rarely worth it.

Actually, I think it is a tactical disagreement about one candidate/race, but who the heck am I? Maybe someone who can respect that consevatives can have a good faith disagreement and still be conservative?
The fact that leading conservatives aren’t even willing to look outside the establishment vs. upstart meme really bums me out. The crap that Levin has been putting out about powerline and NRO really stinks.
There is nothing establishment, RINO, ruling party elite, etc about me, and I resent it. I am less an establishment figure than any of them. When I engage in the political arena, it is not part of my career but a sacrifice of my career. So yes, the implication that my failure to support O’Donnell connects me to the professional ruling class in DC hurts as much as saying I sold military secrets to the Soviets.
I also disagree with your assessment that those words are a “fair” description. I take enough hits for team, I don’t need to take them from the coaches as well. I am puzzled how people in leadership positions can be so dismissive of people that they lead. Frankly, I feel like god fearing gun owning pro-life democrat at an Obama rally.
Of course I care more about the end results than anything else. The country is at stake, and that matters most. However, I don’t have to smile about it. Neither RR nor WFB would paint so carelessly with such broad brushes.

No, at this point it has nothing to do with Castle or O'Donnell
JSobieski (Diary) Tuesday, September 14th at 3:07PM EDT (link)I am talking about how Levin just slanders other conservative bloggers my mistating the factual record.
For example, http://www.powerlineblog.com/archives/2010/09/027212.php.
Look, its easy enough to justify why a vote for O’Donnell is the right move. But don’t mischaracterize and mistate the facts about the people who disagree.
I repeat that Mark Levin is far more of DC establishment ruling class type is than any blogger like Powerline is.
If my lifetime of voting for conservative hopeless cases like Forbes, Thomspon, et al makes me a ruling class DC RINO based on a different assessment in one decision—-SCREW IT.
Insutling the intentions of those who disagree with you is a leftist tactic. Mistating the historical record is a leftist tactic. Being a snob about free independent thinking Americans blogging is a MSM tactic.
I don’t care one iota about Castle at this point, but I do resent being caught up in some thick headed “template” that makes me a RINO. I have voted conservative in so many hopeless scenarios. Do you know how many votes Fred got in Michigan in 2008? He didn’t even campaign here.
I voted for him and was actually interviewed by a local TV station here. Basically have Fred a free 45 second commercial.
I aint no RINO, I aint no Establishment GOP hack, and Mark Levin can stuff it.
He should be helping to build the next generation of conservatives, not lying about (1) their support of Twomey over Spector (2) their standard of when you might not want to simply vote for the most conservative candidate etc.
Mark Levin has been part of the political elite class since 1980. I am a mere self employed attorney who makes it a point to be the “go to guy” (as Rush described) in my circule of friends, family, and associates.
This has nothing to do with Castle at this point, and it hasn’t for the past several days.
Until Levin, Rush, and others can acknowledge that many of us supported (far more quickly than either Levin or Rush by the way) conservative upstarts in these elections, and that people can have a good faith disagreement on tactics/strategy (i.e. is O’Donnell a bridge too far), I don’t need to listen in just to be insulted.
I am not the right wing version of a pro-gun union guy whose vote and support is coveted, but is then scorned as some type of rube who needs to either listen to those who know better, or shut up.
I don;t like being maligned by my own side. Maybe I am being silly, and instead I should say “thank you, may I please have another” but I won’t

Regarding the "Establishment" slight
zaxour Tuesday, September 14th at 3:21PM EDT (link)I wholly agree with Mark and Rush on these points, but don’t take this to mean that they are attacking the regular supporters of these candidates. When they refer to the “establishment” types, they are talking about the people in high places who back these candidates, like Cornyn and McConnell, the entrenched Republican strategists.
Levin used that terminology to talk about bloggers
JSobieski (Diary) Tuesday, September 14th at 3:31PM EDT (link)He specifically used it with respect to the Powerline guys and other bloggers.. With Rush, its not that explicit but in listening to todays show, its pretty clear by implication that if you don’t support O’Donnell, you are one of the ruling class establishment types.

For me if Mark Levin supports someone, it means I should oppose them
texasproud (Diary) Tuesday, September 14th at 3:45PM EDT (link)I hate to burst people’s bubbles but Mark Levin, might think he’s the great one, but his actions can hurt his cause as much as helping them. I strongly disagree with the ‘making a statement’ mentality because EVERY bad vote Coons makes as the next Senator of Delaware will be on O’Donnell supporters and have ZERO right to complain about his actions because you put this guy in there. Think before you speak. Mike Castle did not support Bush’s impeachment and is not having a gay affair. This rumor-monging is disgusting and the people who are spreading these lies should be shot. O’Donnell is a wolf in sheep’s clothes. She is a serial loser for a reason, she is not competent as a candidate. Anybody who is trying to compare her to Rubio or Palin are disgracing Marco and Sarah’s name. This woman is pretending to be a tea partier, but there is a reason her former staffers, who haven’t been paid and subjected to her bizarre antics, have objected to her and said she is not a true believer. They know better than to cast their lot with someone who masquerades as a conservative and the conservative voices, especially on the radio, are dutifully calling for us to walk off this cliff. These were the same people who tried to force-feed Romney down my throat as a lifelong conservative when the evidence was clearly to the contrary.

JSobieski (Diary) Tuesday, September 14th at 8:30PM EDT (link)Nothing is ever taken at face value. I love Levin’s books. I ‘ll bet I’ve read more of them than you have. I also bet you that I have given more of his books away as gifts than you have.
It paints me to say what I have said about Levin because I LOVE LEVIN’S books,
No criticism of anythin Levin says is ever addressed. Its always misdirection. So people call foul on his online commentary regarding powerline, NRO, and WS, and the response is just to impune the intentions of the people making the criticism (its RINO/establishment GOP/misdirection central)
Just like with the O’Donnell matter, anything that is critical is immediately characterized as some type of “misdirection”. or the result of someone being some GOP establishment stooge. My concerns about O’Donnell were factual. You can disagree that the lawsuit thing was important, that the FEC charges were important, or anything else—but you shouldn’t automatically dismiss those concerns as bad faith smears.
Is it possible to actually address specific points, or is it all about the personalities involved. Is every answer to a Levin complaint, that he is an unapologetic conservative? Is that what happened with Vitter? Sleeping with prostitutes is fine because he is an unapologetic conservative?
God help us, this is exactly what happened to the Tom Delay crew. Tom Delay was and is an unapologetic conservative, but that didn’t mean that some his actions were particularly helpful to the conservative movement.

Think about those you just mentioned....
JadedByPolitics (Diary) Tuesday, September 14th at 8:44PM EDT (link)NRO, WSJ, do you remember where they stood on amnesty? I do they were ALL IN on McCain-Kennedy. I don’t think it is too much of a stretch to intimate that they are Rockefeller Republicans as it relates to Powerline, well I don’t know enough about them to make that charge. It is the things they “think” are appropriate as it relates to government intervention into OUR lives that sets those Republicans apart from the TEA Party Movement. It has been a LONG time coming this rift and the reality is that Conservatives who are 42% of the population have been getting kicked in the face for too many years to count and this time, this election cycle is indeed an INSURGENT election and Rush, Hannity, Levin ALL recognize that it is now or never for Conservatives to ascend and to truly remake America in the image of the Founding documents.
I think that Levin has called it on the money when he says that WE have allowed this slow slide to TYRANNY and NOW its time to stop it dead in its tracks. There is nothing that a Mike Castle loss could do to US after having been disgusted and spat upon for two years, hell the GOP was done in 08, they would not be in the position they are right now if not for the hard work of the TEA Party but make no mistake, they too ignored what WE were saying and the primaries are the place for them to hear US ROAR!

I am not disagreeing with ANYTHING Levin has said about tyranny.
I AM disagreeing with how he characterized the people who disagreed with him on this one race.
I Levin is somehow above critical comment—if his word really is THE LAW in terms of this movement, that we are subjecting ourselves to the tyranny of Mark Levin.

Castle supporters will say Levin lied and Levin supporters will say Castle is the liar and in the end when O’Donnell walks away with the nomination tonight it really doesn’t matter because Castle will be going home to think about his F rating from the NRA and all of his “reaching” across the aisle as a Republican to hold hands and make out with Democrats and he can quietly enjoy the MILLIONS he has made as a member of Congress, nice work if you can keep it!

Setting The Record Straight on the Motion To Recommit
chipbennett (Diary) Tuesday, September 14th at 2:18PM EDT (link)In fact, the very purpose of the Motion to Recommit is for the minority party to kill bills. A Vote to Recommit is a vote to kill a bill.
It’s the same tactic attempted as a last-ditch effort to kill the ObamaCare bill. So, arguing that Castle was voting for impeachment by voting to recommit is equivalent to saying that every single Republican voted for ObamaCare by voting to recommit the Stupak Amendment. Here are two other Democrat bills the Republicans killed with the motion to recommit: Cash for Caulkers, and the “Science Jobs” bill.
Nancy Pelosi so hates the Republicans’ use of the motion to recommit to kill bills that she attempted to change the standing rules regarding the procedure.
Rush is continuing to argue that Castle intended to vote for impeachment by voting to recommit, because he “threatened” Bush about the impact of the war on Republicans. Nevermind the fact, of course, that Castle himself came right out and said that he would not vote for impeachment, because he believed that Bush violated no laws. As I quoted above:
Rush is wrong. Levin is wrong. Jim Hoft is wrong. Castle did not vote for impeachment. Quite the opposite; he voted to kill the impeachment bill.
Chastise his voting record all you want; but quit with the outright smears.

chipbennett (Diary) Tuesday, September 14th at 3:10PM EDT (link)It was a Motion to Refer – a parliamentary tactic to send the bill to a committee, usually to die a quiet death.
Why did 166 Rs vote against the motion? My guess is, they wanted to get every Democrat on record regarding their position on impeaching Bush, so they wanted to see Kucinich’s bill come to the floor for a vote.
Why did 23 Rs vote for the motion – including some very conservative Rs? Probably because they’d just rather the bill died in committee – which is exactly what happened. One month after the motion to refer, Kucinich introduced a new impeachment bill. The old one was never heard from again.

captkirc Tuesday, September 14th at 3:31PM EDT (link)Per your request here are some of the easily refuted falsehoods recently claimed by Mark Levin towards fellow conservative bloggers and Mike Castle. Here are the links I used in crafting the response below:

Levin “I am told Powerline defended the Harriet Meyers nomination and the NRSC support for Specter over Toomey before Specter jumped ship”
PL: “In fact, we have been Toomey supporters dating back to 2004 when I wrote a few days before the Republican primary:
My reason for favoring Toomey is [that] Specter is simply too liberal to support when there is a decent conservative alternative. . . The time to consider a pragmatic vote for Specter will be in November, if he survives his race with Toomey (he is still ahead, though Toomey is said to be gaining). Next Tuesday, the choice for mainstream Republicans should be obvious — Pat Toomey.”
Levin: “But Mirengoff need not worry. There will be plenty of his brand of Republicans after November — McCain will likely be back, Graham, Lugar, Snowe, Collins, et al.”
PL: “My favorite Levin error is his claim that Lindsey Graham is “my brand of Republican.” In fact, I’ve been a persistent and bitter critic of Graham (“the Arlen Specter of the South” as I call him) since the early days of our blog. Several years ago, with Graham’s bid for re-election in mind, I tried to promote an anti-Graham website in South Carolina. More recently, I expressed my hope that the Tea Party movement will target Graham in 2014.”
Levin: “Mirengoff pulled the 52 percent figure because it was the last ACU rating – in 2009. But the year before, in 2008, he received a 28 rating from ACU. I am citing the same organization and the same rating system as Mirengoff, and I think any rational person looking at those figures would conclude that Castle votes wrong — from a conservative perspective — most of the time.”
PL: “Actually, the 52 percent figure is Castle’s “lifetime rating,” i.e., for his 17 years in Congress. His rating in 2009 was 56 percent.”
As to impeachment, Levin is the legal mind I most associate with the the impeachment of Bill Clinton having heard him interviewed countless times by Rush and Sean Hannity back in 1998 specifically as an expert on the subject of presidential impeachment. He clearly should know better than to claim that Castle supported the impeachment of President Bush, whether or not the threshold of defamation in a court of law has been crossed. On could argue the Senator Allen would not win a defamation lawsuit against someone on the left claiming he was a racist using that same reasoning. In my opinion, what Levin has done here is no different than those on the left who slandered a good man in 2006 and for that Levin should be condemned and not thanked.
All that aside, still a big fan of GC.
Thx 'kirk, and I know I am being hypertechnical here, but I wouldn't call what Levin said a "lie"
Mike gamecock DeVine (Diary) Tuesday, September 14th at 7:45PM EDT (link)given the vague meaning of the word “support”, with respect to impeachment and the actual import of the votes. One still has to assume facts not in evidence.
On the others, Levin prefaced his remarks re Powerline with: “I am told”, so, again, its not provable as a lie that he wasn’t told.
And on Graham, that PL has criticized Graham, doesn’t mean they aren’t of the same brand. Still no basis to use the lie word.
That is my main point here. I would admit that Levin is being reckless with the language, but think that the backlash against Levin is worse than his sins.

Am I supposed to believe Levin can’t check the ACU ranking? I guess I would, but he’s been telling the numbers wrong to his listeners for days and have received multiple e-mails pointing out his mistake. Yet, he’s refused to correct himself. This is a lie.
Anyway, I find all this amusing. Levin, the chief endorser of the uber-RINO Romney faulting people for supporting Castle? C’mon.I can’t take this guy seriously.
What about the statements about Toomey?
JSobieski (Diary) Tuesday, September 14th at 8:43PM EDT (link)What about the purported standard of PL for voting against an incumbent?
Frankly, these two mistatements are what make me the most mad because they are so petty and easy to correct. But what the heck, Levin has a radio show and the PL guys actually have jobs outside the political sector.
PL supported Toomey despite what Levin said.
PL never supported the purported standard for voting against an incumbent that Levin articulated in their name.

Mike gamecock DeVine (Diary) Wednesday, September 15th at 12:25PM EDT (link)Not one person listed back to back statements of Levin v PL to make a strong case for the intentional lie. Instead they used the lazy, cryptic blogging method to put in links that require many clicks to get to the point, which DeVine Law hasn’t time to go thru. Which is why my columns are reader-friendly for people that have jobs and so haven’t the time to scroll and click all day.
The book was a technological improvement over the scroll, and when one wants to make a case, they don’t require the one to whom that are making the case to dig holes to find their argument and evidence. Rather, they lay it out in detail for the reader without the use of links.
Iuse links in columns but only as supplemental or as the reference for what I am writing in the text. Too many here don’t do that, but then again most aren’t lawyers that have actually had to PROVE what they claim.

My livelihood does NOT depend on elections. My career has nothing to do with politics. If Castle wins, I will NOT be invited to DC cocktail parties.

So what, Mike?
aesthete (Diary) Tuesday, September 14th at 8:35PM EDT (link)The relative effectiveness of both has nothing to do with the basic morality of lying about one’s opponents. Good God, man, you’re a social conservative! You know how important morality is! Copious amounts of proof, including statements from his staffers flatly and unequivocally denying that Castle saw merit in impeachment and the usage of the tactic, have been provided. Unless you subscribe to the idea that some men are “more equal” than others, Levin shouldn’t be held to a lower standard on lying than anyone else. The Noble Lie and “great men” have no place in a conservative movement which asserts the equality of people and absolute morality.

securitymom (Diary) Tuesday, September 14th at 2:28PM EDT (link)I don’t have a dog in this race, but understand that our goal in the general election must be to take the seats back (or hold them) from Democrats. We must NOT let primaries derail what the goal should be. I will take someone who votes with us even a small percentage of the time over a Democrat who would not. Our goal must be to elect those who are aligned with us the most, but are also electable. If you elect someone in the primary who can’t be elected in the general election, why even vote?
The moral ground of voting for the best conservative is a lofty goal but one that doesn’t always get the best results. I am a results person. Give me someone that can win. I’ll worry about my perference for a more conservative later.
On second thought perhaps I do have a dog in this fight. The Congress needs as many R’s as we can get to stop the Obama agenda. That might be placing a vote next to someone’s name that doesn’t meet my idea of a conservative.

Mike gamecock DeVine (Diary) Tuesday, September 14th at 2:48PM EDT (link)Castle seems a sure winner in Nov and for us to win the senate it would probably be by one state.
I would still take a chance with O’Donnell given how liberal he is. Heck, Castle might switch parties after the election…

Why wouldn't he switch if he were #51?
cwilson (Diary) Tuesday, September 14th at 3:06PM EDT (link)I mean, think of the, er, legislative inducements, that Reid or his successor could offer. It worked on Jumpin’ Jim Jeffords (in mid-May of 2001, a mere four months after the new Republican-by-one-vote Congress was seated).
Given that in 2008 Castle voted with San Fran Nan 72% of the time…and when the rest of the R’s in the House were fighting an all-out war against the radical leftist Obagenda in 2009, the BEST the man could muster was a 56% ACU rating. It really seems like he’d be more comfortable on the other side. So what would keep him in the R column? The only SURE way is if “we” had fifty-TWO votes, and his switch would be from maj. party to min. party. Nobody is THAT foolish… If the R’s are still in the minority, the question is how badly does Reid (or his successor) want him, and what Reid’s prepared to offer. If the R’s have the majority by only Castle’s vote…the same thing applies, except Reid would want him a whole heck of a lot more.

cwilson (Diary) Tuesday, September 14th at 3:57PM EDT (link)Does he really care what happens when he is 75 when this seat is up again? I mean, really: I hope we’re done with the sept- or octogenarian pattern of Byrd, Thurmond, Helms, Hollings, Kennedy, McCain, … oh, wait.
OK, try this then: the whole reason Castle is supposedly the guy-who-must-be-nominated is because he has such huge cross over following in D-dominated DE. Snarlin’ Arlen was never liked by anybody on any side; merely tolerated for being effective; and PA is no DE. Nor is DE like deep red AL or trending purple FL. Now, you might have a point with Jeffords — jumping R to D in midnight blue VT — which had long sent self-described Socialist Bernie Sanders to its sole House seat — is similar to doing the same in left-leaning DE… Also, Jeffords had six years before facing the voters again — which he declined to do — rather than the new DE Senator’s four. However, according to wiki
.
So maybe Jeffords/VT doesn’t support your argument as well as you might think.

Without the stupid conservatives rising up and saying ‘we’re mad as hell and we’re not taking it anymore,’ we wouldn’t even be close enough to think about taking back the Senate and moving conservatism forward because we’d still be looking at Senators like Specter, Crist, Bennett and Murkowski.

It's Rush being a good businessman
CowboyUp4419 (Diary) Tuesday, September 14th at 2:36PM EDT (link)Rush has attracted a very large, very conservative audience who he’s told that conservatism, properly articulated, wins every time it’s tried and Republicans only lose when they go squishy. That meme is now deeply rooted with his audience and so he’s got to protect it. He has no choice but to go all in for O’Donnell to protect his business. Really, he’s got nothing to lose by supporting her but would tick off a large, excitable portion of his audience by not doing what he’s doing so this should be no surprise.
The Delaware race has divided conservative pragmatists from conservative zealots, Rush caters to the later so that’s what you’re hearing.
properly articulated
jasonhsv Tuesday, September 14th at 2:49PM EDT (link)This is a key phrase. Many of us don’t think O’Donnell meets that standard.
So Rush has a lot to lose here. Pushing the Castle impeachment vote only makes things worse.
What are Rush, Levin, Erick, etc. going to do if O’Donnell isn’t the next Senator from Delaware? She’s obviously a super duper advocate of all that is right and good. So they have to push her for RNC chair, a Cabinet position in 2013, etc.
But they won’t. They’ll forget about her a few weeks after the election.

A pox upon Delaware!
juumanistra (Diary) Tuesday, September 14th at 3:04PM EDT (link)As has been said repeatedly by multiple people across more posts than I can count, no one is entitled to your vote. And some Republicans really aren’t fit for higher office: Mike Castle demonstrated such when he, at its most charitable, demonstrated he does not get what is arguably the most important issue of our time and became a reliable vote for cap-and-trade. But the same applies to O’Donnell: Her primary attribute this election cycle has been the ability to claim that she is not Mike Castle, and to do so while going through the motions of saying things the Right likes to hear. She is an empty suit, with no political accomplishments to her name, serious personal baggage, and a positive agenda that, where it exists, is made up gruel that is far too thin.
So, on this primary day, I throw my hands up and then wash them of this whole sordid affair. I’m tired of Castle’s offended sense of entitlement, tired of O’Donnell’s spinning conspiracy theories and shrill defensiveness, and tired of this primary being turned into a proxy war for the soul of the Republican Party when neither candidate is remotely worthy of the support and energy that’ve been expended on them. So I’ll pass on voting today: Someone’s hands have to stay clean for the fight in the general.
Wake in me November: And may we have the good sense to bury the hatchets this fight has produced into Chris Coons’s proverbial skull.

blh1976 (Diary) Tuesday, September 14th at 3:25PM EDT (link)In Delaware, that’s the problem. Had O’Donnell been a Rubio, a Miller, a Lee, an Angle, or even a Carly, conservatives of all stripes would have lined up behind her and played the principles card, letting voters decide between a true and able conservative and a Marxist. That doesn’t seem to be the choice they have.
From all I’ve seen and read, conservatives don’t have a quality choice. They have to pick between an admitted moderate, who will vote with them a little over half the time, and a candidate, who proclaims to be a conservative, that has a bizarre and troubling past.
I’m all for taking the conservative plunge, but only for a candidate worthy of the dive. O’Donnell’s doesn’t seem to be worthy of that trust. She seems to be a Maes in the making.

Think hard about what you are doing. The country needs a Republican majority in the senate more than conservatives need to teach the elites a lesson.
You want to see some senate investigations into the Obama Administration? Unless Republicans have a majority, you can forget it. Want to see Sessions chairing the Judiciary Committee? No gonna happen unless Rs have a majority. And after seeing the Dems pass Obamacare via reconciliation, which only requires a majority, it is unfathomable that anyone would support an unstable sure loser over an almost sure winner who be with us more than not.
I could see taking a chance on Christine O’Donnell if she was a good candidate, but she’s a nightmare – an embarrassment actually. If conservatives throw away senate control because of Delaware, the euphoria of O’Donnell supporters may feel tomorrow should turn to embarassment and then shame.

O'Donnell is the wrong symbol for this fight
coolidgefan Tuesday, September 14th at 3:39PM EDT (link)I think Rush and the other fire breathers are doing more harm than good. I say that because I don’t think they’ve done a good job of researching O’Donnell at all. The more we learn about her, the more apparent it becomes she is a gadfly with credibility issues.
I’m certainly not going to say Mike Castle is great. In fact, he’s far from it and we all know that. Still, this is the wrong time to have this fight, and, more importantly, O’Donnell is the wrong person to use to further the conservative cause. After all, this is Delaware and not Alaska, Kentucky, or Pennsylvannia. Until now, we’ve chosen wisely.
One of the reasons I have a problem with Rush on this issue is his past performance. If he feels so strongly, where was he with Mark Kirk? Where was he with Bob Bennett? Where was he with Lisa Murkowski? The answer is he was nowhere to be found. Only now, with just weeks to go is he swoopingin and trying to claim this as his own doing.
My personal belief is Rush is trying to mark his territory and show his power. Should Castle lose, he’s going to claim it was thanks, in large part, to him. But just as important, by his own rules, why did Rush so strongly support Bush? Bush is no liberal, but he was certainly no conservative thanks to NCLB, Medicare Part D, and spending in general.
With just eight weeks to go, we need to worry about winning the majority. A fight this late the process could linger into the general and cause unneeded friction when we should be celebrating. We don’t need to give the media anything they can use to drive a wedge or gin up fear. Now is the time for winning and we can’t do that without Delaware.
Defeating Castle might make many feel warm and fuzzy, but it serves no purpose but to promote the Obama agenda. Is that what we want?
I don't even think that is the issue any more

Lloyd Davis (Diary) Tuesday, September 14th at 5:23PM EDT (link)The ones who are slamming O’Donnell as not being electable need to realize that if she beats Castle, they are doing serious damage to her in the general election. The Democrats will use it as ammunition to show that the right doesn’treally want her.
It seems the whole argument for voting for Castle is we need to get an “R” in that seat. OK, control of the Senate is important but if you are ready to throw out your conservative principles just to get a win, where do you stop compromising?
People who argue that she isn’t good enough at expressing conservative principles need to remember the polished presentation made by Obama. We see where a smooth talker got us. Give me a rough delivery anyday, as long as she puts forth conservative ideals.

Whats amusing is that
rsexteriors (Diary) Tuesday, September 14th at 6:05PM EDT (link)Castle, the Repulican party elites and those here on RS that have been outright slandering and smearing O’Donnell for weeks now all have “hurt”feelings because there is “push-back”.
They feel they should be able to say ANYTHING about her and her supporters, while at the same time she and her supporters are suppose to be “Respectful” to Sir Castle and the RINO republican party establishment. (Ha)
Another amusing thing is this same old tired line of how __________________ is to “crazy”, “unlectable”, “The democrats are praying for _____________to win”, and how ___________________ will be USED to hurt other real conseravative candidates”. ( Just fill in the blank because they have said it about every tea party candidate).
The same thing they are saying now was said about Angle, Miller and the rest.
Now the same people are saying that O’Donnell will be USED to hurt good candidates like Angle and Miller. (Ha Ha Ha). It is getting really OLD. Please just come up with a new line of reasoning to justify your wanting to elect LIBERAL Repulicans, I’m getting bored with all this same old stuff.
O’Donnell will with the Primary and the General. And the Delaware Republican officials should resign in SHAME.
WHY do so many want to COMPROMISE
rsexteriors (Diary) Tuesday, September 14th at 6:17PM EDT (link)thier principles just to have a 51 majority in the Senate?
I’m tired of being told WHO to vote for by party elites who only have their best interest in mind.
We need to kick out all the Liberal Republican Rino’s. It does not matter if we win control of the Senate this time around because:
(1) We Will have control of the house so it does not matter what the Senate passes because the house will not be a Pelosi rubber stamp like it has been.
(2) We WILL make gains in the Senate with CONSERVATIVE candidates and it only takes 51 to stop legislation. If we have 58 or 59 (Conservative) Senators we can stop anything we want to stop.
(3) Even if we control both houses and pass all kinds of great legislation (Or repeal the bad stuff), Obama is still the President and we do not have enough to override his VETO. So it really does not matter. We are stuck with a socialist for two more years.
(4) Would it make you FEEL better to have a Republican Senate confirm another LIBERAL justice with the votes of McCain, Castle, Collins, Graham, Brown, Snowe ….
(5) Having a Repulican (RINO) Senate would just give legitimacy to Obama’s agenda when the Rino’s and Liberals band together to pass his socialist agenda.
(6) I think Obama would welcome the chance play the ‘Blame the Republicans game during the 2012 election.
If we can take control of the Senate with CONSERVATIVE candidates then fine, if not then I say vote your principles and elect as many Conservative Senators as possible. Hopefully enough to replace McConnell with Demint as our leader. Then in 2012 we take control of the Senate with even more Conservative Senators and then we actually get some things done with a Conservative President.
Exactly
SirGladiator (Diary) Tuesday, September 14th at 8:02PM EDT (link)I want a Conservative Republican Majority, not one that will just go along to get along and continue the big taxes, big spending Obama agenda, just to a lesser degree. We need real Conservative change, and that’s why I support Conservatives, not liberals.
Control over judges
Bill S (Diary) Tuesday, September 14th at 8:24PM EDT (link)And control of the “gavel” (I.e. which bills reach the floor) is a big deal. A very big deal. 51 does it.

What control over judges
rsexteriors (Diary) Tuesday, September 14th at 8:40PM EDT (link)The RINO’s will just vote with the Democrats to confirm Obama’s picks anyway. Castle will just be another “Yes” vote for liberal judges
Control of the Gavel is no big deal for the next two years. Does not matter what Republicans pass because Obama will VETO it and with a bunch of Castles around they won’t get anything good passed anyways.
Castle and his RINO buddies will do everything possible to help Obama and hurt Conservative Repulican legilation.

Well said rsexteriors.
conservativemusician Tuesday, September 14th at 8:54PM EDT (link)The only downside I see to the Republicans not taking the Senate in November is if another Supreme Courst justice retires, the Dems would control the process, and the Grahams and other RINO ilk still left over would certainly vote for whoever Obama put up there. Also, the House has no say in confirming Supreme Court justices, so liberal justices would get a “rubber stamp” in the Senate.
Good Lord…if Sotomayor and Kagan can get through with GOP support, imagine how liberal the next justice might be. I’m praying that the 5 conservative justices will stay healthy and not retire until Obama is booted out in 2012.
Won't be as easy next time
rsexteriors (Diary) Tuesday, September 14th at 9:42PM EDT (link)Even if Republicans do not control the Senate they will still pick up 8or 9 seats (Conservative Seats) and we will be getting rid of some Rino’s. So if they stick together they can stop a Liberal appointee.
If they have the intestinal fortitude, which they are not always known for.

The Importance of This Election...
securitymom (Diary) Tuesday, September 14th at 8:22PM EDT (link)While some are suggesting that it would be better to vote for a conservative even if it might mean not having the Senate are possibly forgetting that we have a President Obama in the White House. Even if they are right under normal circumstances right now it is a different world. In this world we need as many R,s as possible to hold on to what is left of our children’s future.
Having said that, whatever the outcome we need to come together to get our Country back on track. We can not do this divided.
