The Best Thing About the Next Congress Open Thread

As noted on Twitter yesterday, the best thing about 2011 will be a Congress with Michelle Bachmann and without Alan Grayson.

Consider this an open thread.

……Jeff Perry representing MA-10, from the South Shore down to the Cape and Islands.
Wonder if that means Obama won’t come back to Martha’s Vineyard next summer…

Opps, I meant Speaker Pelosi. Yeah, that’s the ticket! Speaker Pelosi.

Are we going to have STUPID STUPID STUPID people in the House embracing earmarks?

The best thing to happen in the next congress SHOULD BE a complete ban on earmarks and a hiring freeze in the federal government for people who have left and gone on to other jobs.

  • wormyguy

That we get lots of freshman Republicans, who may vote their conscience for a while before getting hooked on the big-spending heroin.

  • audax

Doing to Grayson what he did to Webster…LOL….paybacks a b…….

  • wdevinney

For me, the best thing about the 2011 Congress will be that Gerry Connelly (D-VA 11) will not be insulting my intelligence by claiming that the health care legislation is revenue neutral. OK, Gerry, and when I cast my vote for Kieth Fimian in November, it is really just a “neutral” vote that won’t affect you negatively.

will be the return of the New England Republican/conservative. Imagine a congress with Jeff Perry, Sean Bielat, Jon Golnik, Bill Hudak, Dan Debicella, Sam Caligiuri, John Loughlin, Dean Scontras and Frank Guinta. YES.

Hopefully, with a conservative winning the white house, the senate should shift dramatically as well. After this cycle, the Dems have to defend 43 seats in 12 & 14 and the Rs are only defending 23 seats.

Hopefully, we can keep momentum and then turn back the garbage that has been pushed through these past 20 months…

Connolly is a mega statist. He is even more statist than liberal, like a Soviet apparatchick.

  • wormyguy

You have to take internal campaign polls with a grain of salt. Campaigns may conduct shoddy polling that favors their own candidate, release only outlier polls that show their candidate in an especially good position, or even just simply fudge the numbers. A good rule is to assume that they’re claiming it’s 5 points closer than it really is.

so we can still imagine/hope/believe how well it is going to turn out. November 3 may bring a different feeling.

    The next Congress should:

    1) Enact the Patriotic Education Program (PEP)
    2) Limit its time in session to 5 months per year
    3) Proclaim its respect for state sovereignty and encourage the Board of Governor’s to become more involved with the people’s business and less dependent on federal government
    4) Recall all previous legislation that inhibits free enterprise and return to the most limited dfinition of “commerce.”
    5) Disband SSA, NEA, and all other unconstitutional Departments
    6) Invoke ban on back-to-back terms for all sitting and new Representatives.

Watching Mr. Obama do his little rain dance and then try to strong arm a Congress that distrusts him as much as or more than the general public.

Watching Mr. Obama try his strong arm, Chicago Gangster’ bullying tactics on a congress that is going to consider him rather an annoyance than a leader.

Watching our Congress become even more conservative in 2012!

  • mkozikowski

There is no salary provision in the constitution.
Rather they members of the U.S. Congress are promised payments for costs incurred in doing their job.

They are required to meet at least once per year. That sounds good. After all if the U.S. Government were doing only what it is allowed to do, we really would not need them there for more than we couple weeks. Maybe a month total for an entire year.

  • kowalski

Bielat not Frank. Angle not Reid. Paladino not Cuomo. DeMint not [name your favorite]. Rubio not Christ. And many others, regardless of the names.

Listen folks, it might not be pretty, it might be a pastiche of American governance, but it’s going to make a difference, and it willbe better than what we have now.

Right now the only Establishment we have to worry about is the Liberal Establishment, and frankly anyone we elect will be an improvement. Once they get there, they’ll figure out how to work together, and most of them already know how to.

So help me make it happen, and help Erick make it happen, and let’s all make it happen.

    [Applause].

    Sincerely, Me.

I know, or at least I think, that doing what he’s done in the past year or so hasn’t been easy, but he’s one of the main reasons I’m still here. The man is tenacious, you just can’t disregard him. And I think he’s doing the right thing. I can only say that he’s a more courageous man than I am, and I thank him for it. We do have your back, Erick.

  • Tbone

Honest to God, the Republicans should add the “Get the US out of the UN and the UN out of the US” plank and that the money saved will go to directly into the Social Security Trust Fund.

I can’t imagine any sane American opposing that concept.

  • gazill

will provide insight as to where this country is headed. If this body (the majority of them) continues to roll over and let Obama pet its collective belly, well, I think we all know the future is a bit darker. If this body (the elected GOP) finally stands up for the Constitution and traditional American values, the future is once again brighter, though this fight has just begun. There is a lot to repair, and a long way to go.

  • kowalski

I hereby propose that August 31 be officially designated “Heavens To Murgachowski Day” in honor of the current Senator from Alaska, Lisa Mangachumpski.

If that doesn’t work, we can call it:

“Lease a Merge of Stumped Skis” Day or
    “Lisa Malachomsky” Day or
    “She’s Malaslumpski” Day or just
    “Malahastenoftenotenslumpdedecadumpskebotenbottenweboodebotendotennchowski” Day

  • azaeroprof

The best thing about the next Congress could be watching the genocide of exploding liberal heads while Alan Grayson sits on his couch at home watching Senator Christine O’Donnell (R-DE) speaking on the floor of the U.S. Senate.

  • azaeroprof
  • rdelbov

but has anyone noticed the large number of Vets seeking to win house and senate seats this time? Plus several candidates for Governor?

I am sure that someone has noticed this. Plus Medical doctors and in some cases like twofers (A vet and a doctor)

I certainly see the reasons for the Docs–Obamacare/

Yet why are we seeing so many Vets? Does anyone have a listing of them?

I have an idea that service-honor-duty-country is going to make a big comeback this November

Easily one of the best stories of the tradition of the American representative republic.

explain there loss will be sweet.
I especially can’t wait to watch the MSNBC lineup 11/3 : Morning Blow, Screwball, The Dead Show, Ratings Down, Mad Cow & The Last Weirdo

  • glorybee

Dr. Dan up north, Tim Walburg down south, Rocky Raczkowski in the east (longshot but hopeful), Justin Amash in the west & several other possibilities. Keeping the excellent Mike Rogers, Candace Miller, Dave Camp, Fred Upton, Thad McCotter. But the BEST is sending the odious, smarmy, incompetent from Canada – Governor Jennifer Granholm – packing!

  • williamjameson

Without the congressman that’s nuts congress will be a better place.

Is it just me or does Grayson remind you of actor Vincent D’Onofrio’s character Private Pyle from “Full Metal Jacket”?

See pic, please forward just for laughs. ROFL!!!

Pelosi will still be around but not speaker, Reid might lose – it’s a shame it’s even close at this point and he has a bunch of money. I don’t think we win back the senate so I’m not looking forward to his idiocy again.

The best part for me will be a Republican House causing all kinds of problems for the Dems. They have called wolf on obstruction for 2 years despite super majorities…just you wait. The Obama agenda is coming to a screeeeeching halt.
