Nevada’s Largest Newspaper Endorses Sharron Angle

The last time Harry Reid ran for the Senate the Las Vegas Review Journal endorsed him.

Not this time. Nevada’s largest newspaper has gone all in with Sharron Angle.

In its endorsement, the newspaper deemed the election a clear choice between Angle, who supports limited government, and what it described as Washington’s big spending and partisan bickering.

The editorial says Reid hitched his fortunes to President Barack Obama’s “failed” economic playbook.

That’s a big score for Sharron Angle who remains tied in the polls with Reid.

    LVRJ endorsing Angle.

    SFT not endorsing Boxer.

All we need is the NYT to endorse Paladino, and we’ll all know we’ve died and gone to Heaven…

But not as happy as when Sharon wins the election and sends Reid home to Searchlight.

concerning a conversation she had with Scott Ashjian asking him to bow out. The parts of the story quoting her are a mix of good and insightful and shows she is not a rubberstamper for whatever the gop throws out there. And some quotes are ‘gee Sharron I wish you hadn’t gone there’ because one or two quotes come off as desperation. The writer’s comments were opinionated so ignore those if possible.

The journal endorsement couldn’t have come at at better time.

I’m always glad to hear a newspaper actually do something good. Unfortunately I’m not convinced that anyone outside of the editorial board actually cares who the newspaper endorses.

More than just the “Oh, I’ll vote for her cuz the paper said so” are the people who will say “Well, she can’t be the nutjob that Harry wants us to believe if the LVRJ is supporting her.”

A lot of Reid voters may take a second look and it won’t take many of those to move this from tied to leaning Republican especially with the big lead of the GOP governor candidate.

  • mypalfish

On the one hand, some of the things she says do sound a bit desperate. But some of her comments hammering the GOP could resonate with independent voters. Personally, I would be more likely to vote for her after reading what she said.

an endorsement for Reid would have robbed her of some legitimacy which could not have come at a better time, and furthered the notion she’s on the fringe.

The fact that they did not follow the San Francisco Chronicle voting “present” on Boxer/Fiorina says plenty, since this set precedent for taking the easy way out.

Harry and his MFM minions have so demonized Sharron that all she has to do is demonstrate that she’s not the nutjob that she’s been made out to be. With the visceral disdain for Harry that’s all she’s got to do.

Normally, newspaper endorsements are worth about as much as the paper they’re printed on but in this case, you’ve nailed it – this one’s more important than most because it gives Sharron credibility.

Who taped her? Was this a set up by Reid?

how long the fight to educate and win over a large portion of the population to conservative principles is needed when someone like Harry Reid can call Angle a fringe candidate and they believe him. (On anything).

If Harry Reid is defeated he will never go back to Nevada. That was something he was forced to do to keep his power.

No hes an eastern socialist now and they will have to stick together after the election,on the east coast.

  • SEC_SAM

Never thought of it that way, but stranger things have happened and today things are REALLY strange.

How bad is it when a Newspaper endorses a Republican. The Las Vegas Review Journal will now be a target of the IRS for sure, The Las Vegas unions will be pulling their ads that they use to bribe the media into favorable coverage.

Ried’s too old for politics, his short term memory is gone, Remember Senator Daschel? The difference is there will be no plumb job for Ried, but Nevada is a great place to retire.

I just finally ponied up my $50 bucks to Angle last week. Now comes word that she was taped saying some very candid things, a few of which may or may not be harmful. At the very least, the comments will undermine her with some voters who are loyal to the GOP, and perhaps others who don’t like her playing political “juice” games before she has won the seat.

I s’pose one risk of citizen legislators working their way in and unseating seasoned politicians is undisciplined mouths.

Time for you to buckle down and stick to the script Sharron. I want my $50 to matter.

I really liiked where she explained that she is upset with gop. As most are, but tha whole thing about I can’t beat harry with you in the race is – well its a card I wouldn’t have played. But other than that I think she her tone resonated pretty well with her conservative base. Hopefully the journal endorsement will take some of the people who are straddling the fence between her and Ashjian and push them in the Angle corner. She definately needs to be a little more savvy when going in enemy camps.

I’ve been on their site before – the best I can tell, that paper has all the credibility of Gloria Allred. Their bias is plainly visible and overt.

I think the story plays out the opposite of what the Sun would lead us to believe. I can definitely see this thing playing into the “like” column of unattached indies who see her plainly casting herself as an outsider within her own party.

Who can persaude the 3rd party candidate to look at the big picture, get out, and endorse her? Gotta get rid of Reid now! Supreme Court appointments and the progressive agenda must be stopped this term, or it could be too late to turn the big Ship of State back on course. Thank the newspaper for having the courage to go all-in on this critical race.

  • chabsentia

The fact that over 40% of Nevadans woujld vote for Red who is pushing for the Dream act is scary since Nevada doesnt have over forty percent Hispanics. The Fact that as much as 20 % of Nevadans would vote for a third party candiate is scary since they shouid know that he cant win with 20% and might throw the election to Reid and more Agenda for Wealth Redistribution and continued unemployment. If Nevada cant figure it out by this time then why does anybody care about it.

  • dambama

Harry Reid has long outworn his welcome in Nevada. If it were not for the millions he has spent trashing Sharron he would be 15 points back.

Harry has been the key factor in the destruction of America’s economy, and Nevada suffers disproportionately.

Any Nevadan who votes for Harry, a third party candidate, or “None of the Above” is helping Obama, Harry and Nancy Pelosi screw us all.

  • ihateliberals

he continues to support abortion and the destruction of the USA free market. Being a church member myself I don’t understand how he is still in good standing with the church. He is a liar and a traitor to the constitution.

  • gregory1972hunt

    Is that a newspaper?

  • http://itsaboutfreedom.proboards.com IronDioPriest

I found her critiques of the old guard GOP to be spot-on, and they didn’t bother me a bit. But that means some traditional republican voters may not appreciate it.

More disturbing to me though were her promises of access to power, and “political juice” being offered as a favor before the contest is even finished. That plays to everyone’s jaded perception of a typical politician, trading favors and gathering power. I am more worried about those comments having a negative affect.

I also didn’t like her open lack of confidence in a three-way race, but I don’t think that’ll harm her in real terms.

It just seems to me to be an undisciplined and un-needed injection of controversy into a race that shouldn’t be this close.
