I just heard that Jeb Hensarling is going to run for Conference Chair to replace Mike Pence.
This is terrific news. Hensarling is one of the most substantive conservative policy guys I know in the House.
Coincidentally, Jeb Hensarling is the first politician I ever gave money to. Seriously. The Club For Growth, in Jeb’s first run, sent out a mail piece with a list of candidates to choose from.
Here was an economics guy who worked for Phil Freakin’ Gramm and was running for Congress to reduce government. SOLD!
He went on to lead the Republican Study Committee after Mike Pence had left that position and was willing to lead philosophical and economic fights against his own Republican leadership.
That’s the type of guy we need as Conference Chairman.
I’m sure others will probably come out and say they are running, but given his background, experience, and fire in the belly I cannot imagine anyone being better or more competent to succeed Mike Pence as Conference Chairman.
This is really terrific news.

Bachmann will have the support of the base.

James Madison, Jim DeMint, Margaret Thatcher, Ronald Reagan… You get the picture.
Word is...
soljerblue Thursday, November 4th at 1:30PM EDT (link)Bachman will also run for the Conference Chair position. Seems to me she’d make a pretty good one, too. ‘Sides, she’s better looking than Jeb.

He is good
Goldwater_Conservative (Diary) Wednesday, November 3rd at 3:37PM EDT (link)He is the rep just next to me, Barton is mine, but Jeb has been a strong conservative for a long long time now.
Jeb Hensarling is very good IMO

Any sightings
f2000 (Diary) Wednesday, November 3rd at 4:12PM EDT (link)of Pelosi yet? It’s not like her to not jump in front of a camera and mention how everything is going according to plan.
Only Glimpse of Pelosi I wanna see...

This is not exactly the right tack to take for RS or for conservatives.
janis (Diary) Wednesday, November 3rd at 4:20PM EDT (link)In my humble opinion, we should put out the message that we want sent and then see who steps up to carry that message. What happens if the messenger that WE choose, like Hensarling, ends up having “character lice.” I’m not saying he does, not by any means. But I don’t think it’s our job to pick the messenger, only the message.
Messengers are fallible, but the right message is immutable.
If the messenger already "gets" the message, then
davesinsanantonio (Diary) Thursday, November 4th at 6:49AM EDT (link)we can go with that messenger. We just need to keep an eye on him or her to be sure the message doesn’t get garbled with all of the static that abounds in D.C. We also should be looking for additional messengers, for when the Left and its lapdog media turn up the heat, as they surely will, who will carry the message in the House, in the Senate, and back to the American public.
Some of our problems, self inflicted, in the past have been to the lack of a clear message back to the citizens. We need to have a full court press now, for the foreseeable future, and increasing it when the media get raucous. If we articulate clear principles, economic as well as political, the voters will understand and back us to their representatives in all levels of government.

Daniel Horowitz (Diary) Wednesday, November 3rd at 4:20PM EDT (link)The house leadership, although imperfect, is miles ahead of the Senate leadership. We need to focus a campaign on McConnell. No McConnell for Minority Leader!
I agree
glorious Wednesday, November 3rd at 7:30PM EDT (link)I agree
Me, too
soljerblue Thursday, November 4th at 1:35PM EDT (link)If McConnell said the sun rises in the east, I’d check it out. After all the dithering he did on health care repeal during the campaign, I wouldn’t trust him as far as the senate cloak room. He needs a come-to-Jesus meeting with reality.
This is good news, but...
Ron Ferraro Wednesday, November 3rd at 4:28PM EDT (link)…I’m bummed about Ken Buck. :=(

Me too. I really thought Buck was going to pull
deano64 (Diary) Wednesday, November 3rd at 4:35PM EDT (link)it off in my beloved Colorado. Only outstanding votes left are Boulder and Arapahoe county so that’s not good news for Buck. Senate races are odd things sometimes. The good news is Colorado voters flipped a couple of house seats to Repubs and flipped the CO state house to Repubs.

Did the debacle over the governorship kill Buck?
bk (Diary) Thursday, November 4th at 1:48PM EDT (link)In addition to handing that seat to Hickenlooper, did it turn off just enough people that they stayed home or didn’t vote Republican? Even a tiny impact could have made the difference since the Bennet-Buck race was so close.
It might have hurt Buck a little but the Dems
Lloyd Davis (Diary) Thursday, November 4th at 2:39PM EDT (link)really went at him hard with the negative ads, especially by trying to convince the voters Buck wanted to raise taxes 23% ( It was his flat tax rate proposal). The message never really got out that the other taxes would be replaced. People were convinced that this would be more taxes, not less.
It wasn’t all bad, we did get rid of John Salazar.

aesthete (Diary) Wednesday, November 3rd at 4:40PM EDT (link)It’s GREAT news. We need someone who’s not an economic illiterate (and who is also a conservative/libertarian) at the helm. Jeb’s been point-man on budget issues since Gramm left, and will be an advocate for limited government as Conference Chair.

glorious Wednesday, November 3rd at 7:32PM EDT (link)I don’t know Hensarling. Can he be better than Michelle?
You should do some reading up on Jeb
E Pluribus Unum (Diary) Wednesday, November 3rd at 9:34PM EDT (link)Michelle’s a great face in front. Hensarling is (a) a true, true conservative, right down to Reagan, Kirk, Buckley, and Burke, and (b) a nasty, mean SOB.
You want a person more like Hensarling here.

Right. Then Michelle can be the PR person to
davesinsanantonio (Diary) Thursday, November 4th at 6:54AM EDT (link)explain things to the voters. She seems to get plenty of face time with the media. Of course, that could change if they ever realize how effective she is.

My personal range 75% -%95, today the high end of course.
I don't know Jeb Hensarling, Erick,...
flamerock Thursday, November 4th at 6:05AM EDT (link)…but I’ll check him out soon.
As for Mike Pence: I hope that he’ll set aside any thoughts of the Presidency for now and return here to Indiana as our next governor. He would make a great successor to Mitch Daniels and would continue the policies of fiscal responsibility that have Indiana one of the very few states to actually have money in the bank after the state’s bills are paid – a seemingly novel concept these days.
Leadership
eldstenorge Thursday, November 4th at 9:11AM EDT (link)Hensarling is great, however, I would much prefer someone you hear something from, like Michelle Bachmann or Jason Chaffetz. These two will speak up and let no grass grow under their feet. We need strong, outspoken leadership right now.
I have no dog in this fight.
soljerblue Thursday, November 4th at 1:44PM EDT (link)It seems to me that either Jeb or Michelle would be great in a leadership position, Conference Chair or whatever. I think Bachman is better known, more media presence, can explain things to a larger audience. Perhaps, all other things being equal(I know, they seldom are) I’d opt for the best marketing.
We have got to start off with the idea that the country owes the GOP nothing, and the party owes the country big time. Seems to me that means doing some serious outreach in clear terms that get peoples’ attention. I peg Michelle for that. Maybe Hensarling can do it, too. But — outside hard conservative circles, who knows him? Not being smartazz, just asking.
My concerns are with both Congressional
capeconservative Sunday, November 7th at 8:41PM EDT (link)leadership positions – perhaps they do know what they are doing, but for some reason I am skeptical about believing them when they say they will HOLD FIRM on the issues that sent CONSERVATIVES to the polls in record numbers.
We do NOT want ‘compromise’
We DO want TOTAL REPEAL of Obamacare – it is NOT constitutional! We do NOT want 1 page of those 2,700 pages in that bill to stay in effect!!!! NOT ONE!
We DO want a BALANCED BUDGET bill
We DO want ALL spending trimmed – NO MORE frivolous ‘studies/grants’ to look into the effects of marijuana on the sexual activity of college students…or the sex habits of frogs!
We do NOT want card check
We do NOT want cap & trade
We do NOT want to have world government dictate to the UNITED STATES of AMERICA
We DO want a LIMITED government as prescribed by our founding fathers
Is there a leader in the House & Senate who will PROMISE TO STAY TRUE TO THESE CONSERVATIVE VALUES??????????
It’s time to vote in NEW STRONG LEADERS who will listen to We the People!!!!!
