EDITOR OF REDSTATE

On This Nancy Pelosi Has My Thanks. God Bless Her.

None of us here are fans of Speaker Nancy Pelosi. But I believe in praising people, whether I agree with them or not, when they deserve it. And Nancy Pelosi deserves our praise today.

You may not know it, but Pelosi is an ardent foe of the Chicoms’ human rights record. As documented in the wikileaks releases, the Chinese are scared to death of the woman every time she goes for a visit.

A few years ago, Speaker Pelosi embarrassed the Chinese by unfurling a banner in Tianamen Square honoring the victims of the Chicoms’ murderous put down of the protest. Speaker Pelosi, having been denied the right to visit Tibet a few years ago made a big stink about it.

Now, Nancy Pelosi is letting Republican Congressman Chris Smith of New Jersey bring his resolution to the floor honoring Chinese dissident and human-rights activist Liu Xiaobo, who is this year’s recipient of the Nobel Peace Prize.

I do hope Speaker Pelosi will go to Oslo for the ceremony. It will send the right message to the Chicoms that Americans, Thomas Friedman excluded, will continue standing up to them and their murderous, barbarous record on basic human rights.

She’s a damn hypocrite. Her unflinching pro-abortion record is a horrible human rights violation in itself.

Does she not push for censoring of opposition opinion? Sure, she hasn’t had any dissenters mowed down with machineguns, but she has sought violation of the 1st, 2nd, 4th and other Amendments to the Constitution.

It’s like Boehner said, “Chicken Crap”.

Many people start out in a place where they are not appreciated. Square pegs in round holes happen all the time. Maybe we just haven’t (or she hasn’t) found the right place for her talents. Maybe you are on to something in this report! I always think of how unpopular leaders are to their contemporaries. It is the perspective of history that allows us to see ourselves more clearly. Not saying she will go down as a Mother Theresa, but we usually find people aren’t as good or bad as we think they are.

    disagrees with their abortion policy.

…that she’s also up in the Arab world’s face about their record on women’s rights?

    (I can dream, can’t I?)

While I applaud her efforts, her stance on Chinese Communists is about as heartfelt as Chuck Schumer’s defense of Wall Street. It’s just some deference to the home team’s feelings.

She hails from San Francisco. To get re-elected, she can ignore her run-of-the-mill constituents (like me) and only has to pay obeisance to the SF Power Structure, which includes among others, the limousine liberals, the Greenies, and the Chinese-American community. They are very very politically involved. Kind of like the Cuban community in Miami or African Americans for Charlie Rangel.

So to get that block of votes, every so often she has to give the finger to the Chinese regime, in a way that will resonate with voters back home.

follow up with her promise to my fellow Orthodox Christians to make sure that under her tenure as Speaker, the Armenian Genocide would be officially recognized by the United States. The Ottoman Turks killed 2 million of my fellow Orthodox Christians, and the fact that the United States doesn’t recognize would be the equivalent of the US not recognizing the Holocaust.
Turkey wouldn’t even let us use the NATO bases in their country during the War on Terror, and they’ve somewhat abandoned Israel, so what do we have to lose?

I’m glad she is concerned about someone in China.
Any word on her stand on the human trafficking rings that are infesting our southern border…?
The kidnappings and and forced prostitution and all the murder that these gangs are committing against the people desperate enough to try and sneak into the country.

Our neighbor to the south,Mexico is in a virtual civil war and we are all supposed to pretend we do not see it.
Many many more have died all within sight of our border and not a peep.
    Where is their banner ?

This strikes me as quintessential country-club liberal do-gooderism – i.e., stand up to people who can’t really do anything to you for things that have absolutely no bearing on your own life or position.

Call me when Nancy Pelosi rebukes the U.N Human Rights Commission or unfurls a banner in Mecca protesting their treatment of Christians.

Praising Pelosi is like praising Dahmer for sparing the gas station attendant after filling up his car.

You hit the nail on the head. When can we stop appeasing glorified Holocaust denial and recognize the ghastly Armenian Genocide perpetrated by the Ottoman Turks? The only good thing about Ankara apparently now giving the finger to Jerusalem is that perhaps some of the more ardently pro-Israel members of Congress will stop giving Turkey cover on the Genocide based on their erstwhile (and shallow) friendliness toward Israel.

The UN agency UNFPA, among others, helps fund and promote it. As we all know, she wants to flood those agencies with taxpayer money.

Also, via the removal of the so-called Mexico City policy, a move she supports, funds go to Planned Parenthood International’s British counterpart Marie Stopes who is the leading abortion provider in China and advertises that it “works closely” with Chinese “family planning officials.”

If she were really serious, she’d call for an embargo or some similarly significant restriction. I have yet to hear anyone in Washington call for that.

Regardless of where she stands on other issues, this is a step in the right direction, and she deserves many kudos for it. I’d love for her to continue down the path and denounce her ties to abortion advocates, but these actions are definitely worth our support.

Unfurling that banner in Tianamen Square… that’s gutsy. Wish I had seen the looks on their faces for that one.

    Nothing, I say!

Seriously, though, it would be hard to find someone in America who supports the Chinese against the protesters. Not impossible, granted, but still a feat.

Pelosi’s designs on America are leading us down a path where violent protests and police-state put downs are very possible. She is an authoritarian tyrant. We will never be rid of her.

If something like Tienanmen Square ever happened in America, she would absolutely be the first to make a big deal about how people were treated, never understanding that it is her policies that force the action. Except for the fact that the Tienanmen Square protest was a call for the end to corruption, nepotism and freedom of the press to shine a light on these factors. Not completely unlike the tea party movement in this country.

Are we to pretend that her policies, and the policies of the left in this country are not communistic and anti-capitalist? Are we to pretend that it couldn’t get that bad?

She is a San Fransisco hippy, and vapid. My guess is that she misunderstood why the people were protesting in the first place.

I disagree that it is to her credit that she embarrassed the Chinese. She embarrasses women every day, Catholicism everyday, but mostly America. She is a walking embarrassment.
