Why Governors Matter: Nikki Haley Takes on Barack Obama

Nikki Haley is just so awesome.

At a White House gathering for the new governors, Governor-Elect Haley confronted Mr. Obama and asked him to repeal Obamacare. Obama refused so Haley said she wanted an opt-out for South Carolina.

She made sure the White House knew she was going to fight every step of the way on this.

What is more awesome is that she demanded a refund to the state of money used to build the Yucca Mountain nuclear storage facility. South Carolina has a temporary facility that has been used and South Carolinians contributed a pile of money for Yucca Mountain to get the stuff out of South Carolina.

Obama is refusing to open up Yucca Mountain so Haley publicly demanded a refund from the President.

Governors matter and Nikki Haley is going to fight.

But I’m think maybe I should really be considering South Carolina. I love the spirit. Is it too early to hype Gov Haley as a VP candidate?

Bully for Gov. Haley !! Prominent conservative women are demonstrating the spines which have grotesquely softened in many of their male (or allegedly so) RINO counterparts.

She has done what all patriotic Americans must do – confront this socialist incompetent at every opportunity, harry it, give it no chance to rest. The thin-skinned, petulant narcissist must be hemmed in to make it as harmless as possible. The damage it has already caused is incalculable at this time, but clearly our grandchildren will still be paying the bills long after the clown has been assigned the dustbin of history.

  • MathMom

She can opt out if she creates Obamacare in SC, which she said she’d look into. That’s not very hopeful. But the fact that she’ll stand up to The One and demand a refund for Yucca Mountain? I’m very glad I donated to her campaign.

The funny part of this is that the guy was house majority whip is likely to blow his stack because he was the one who thought that the Constiutation gave them the right to do this

Can we please refrain from primary caterwauling until the new Congress gets up and running. And while Haley certainly appears to be promising, she hasn’t really “done” anything yet. Like offer a budget.

I read most of the linked article. What bothered me this morning was in the discussion about O’care, Obama said if SC constructed a similar plan, he’d look at it and consider a waiver. Who the hell gave the presidency this kind of power? It should be that if a set of legislated criteria are met, SC (any state) can do this.

We need to get him out in ’12, period.

  • loveitorleaveit

I love it that Nikki Haley stood up to Obama, but then she let him control the dialogue. I wish she would have said that she was opting out and that ANY government health care plans stymy more efficient free market solutions.

If she enrolled the entire state of SC into the SEIU, she could easily get a waiver!

Lots of potential reasons – men told they have to just get along, men tired of being shrieked at by the bat-{guano} crazies of Code Pink and NOW ?

I’m just glad anyone with an R after their name found ‘em, don’t care whether they keep ‘em inside or outside….

and women/children have the most to lose in a rapidly approaching breakdown of civilization. Strong conservative women aren’t having any of it and either we men “lead, follow or get the hell out of the way”.

Now that one governor has scored off Obama, I’m hoping others realize that there’s plenty of upside to be gained and not much downside risk.

There are more Repub governors around today .. perhaps some of them will realize Nikki Haley did exactly the right thing here? Politely asking for what her state needs from this president, but doing so in public…

This has some aspects of a publicity stunt, but … that’s politics today… contrast Joe The Plumber with Nikki The Governor …

I am very hoping that some of the other new (and old) Republican governors take this as a wake-up call – I don’t think Perry will need much of one – and take up the fight against Big Government.

It’s the beginning of open season on Zero. It just takes a few “you lie” and direct challenge moments to unleash the pent up feelings that its ok to call out the won.

Not only to governors matter, they are pretty much the last stand for this country and are critical to begin to balance the power of the cesspool of DC. Restoring more power and bigger budgets to the states from federal is absolutely critical.

I’ve been waiting for her to make me proud.

Nikki Haley just stuck her foot in Obama’s … uh … door, and Ms. Fallin should be the first to catch her back. Believe me, Okies will be appreciative.

The White race is becoming a matriarchal society like the Black race as we have abdicated our position as head of household.

    TSA Pledge

I pledged that if I’m ever on a jury where someone is being tried for an act against a TSA agent I will vote Not Guilty. It only takes one juror for a mistrial, not all 12. TSA agents actions can be considered an assault therefore most anything the passenger/accused does may be considered Self-Defense – which is not a crime.

“Our grandchildren will be paying the bills”…
maybe that’s why so many women are refusing to “sit down and shut up” these days!
There are exceptions aplenty, but speaking in broad generalities, if’s often women who are most painfully aware of constriction of the family budget.

Hurrah for Nikki Haley! Would that other politicians possessed her intestinal fortitude.

I don’t blame her for asking and putting him on the spot. This waiver business smacks of the end of the rule of law and a move back to arbitrary rule by a King or Mobster.

    WAY TO GO, NIKKI!!!

Apparently… the Constitution is now a living, breathing document…

A document that used to stand for our inalienable rights and liberties…. and a document that severely resticts and limits the powers of the Federal government.

As you SHOULD know… it should now be referred to as the Wiki-Constitution… subject to constant change, revision and interpretation… by whoever occupies the POTUS in charge of the U.S. of What’s Happening Now.

We simply refer to this new authority to act as…

    Hope and Change.

The ancient oak stands on its’ hill, in full leaf, looking perfectly healthy… just like it looked a decade ago, and only a little taller and wider than it looked two decades earlier…

And things go on this way until the oak collapses in a thunderstorm, rotten to the core, structure eaten away by ants and squirrels …

The day after the collapse, everyone realizes the tree had been dying for quite a while…

The Obama administration is doing a good impression of the ancient oak .. on fast forward…

The liberal view grants no such power to the President, and instead, prefers that that power rest in the hands of the UN Human Rights Commission: both much more reasonable positions than the extremist far-right premise that we interpret the Constitution as it was clearly written, of course.

  • cardinaldog

DeVine, your comment is absurd! The Obama regime ?smacks of the end of the rule of law..? and you accuse the rights of States as an arbitrary act. American freedoms are at risk by extension of Federal powers and every state must oppose this attempt vehemently!

  • http://www.examiner.com/x-1597-Charlotte-Law--Politics-Examiner Mike gamecock DeVine

I think these arguments about whether one is more for tax es than social issues is a red herring. We don’t have to rank issues. We can be strong for both and be just fine, but I am CERTAIN that me and most so-cons understand that the economy is job one right now and that unlike social issues which can be addressed out side govt, the economy is hostage to liberal policies that must be reversed. It is the Left that seeks to divide our side over this non-issue of what matters “most”. Its a crock that doesn’t matter.

we can walk and chew gum! voila!

  • acat

And I agree – “ranking” issues, or getting hung up on one issue over another is a very good way to wedge us apart.

I can chew gum and walk at the same time. You can walk and chew gum at the same time. The net effect is the same… progress.

I appreciate you taking the time to make this comment. If I can use another analogy I’m certain you’ll recognize … not everyone is an eye, not everyone is a hand, not everyone is an ear…. and taken a step further, what matters to an ear is not what matters to an eye or a hand… but right now, the whole body has a bad case of liberal pox and we need to focus on that, not on bogus claims of superiority of one over another.

he cannot suspend the constitution… not yet…

I’m absolutely certain he’d like to. I’m also certain if he gets enough push-back from the new Republican congress, he will try to rule by czars… and it will be up to the House to deny him and his czars the ability to write checks.

just making the bets of a bad situation in which policy is set by arbitrary favors rather than the law. So as Governor, she asks for one. Remember the Louisiana Purchase and the Nebraska something or other that Dem Sen Nelson backed off of? This would be the same thing except more expensive and quite ridiculous. America needs to opt out of ObamaCare not just a few states. It mocks the idea of a nation.

Besides, Sc will get no waiver given Obama’s condition of an “exchange”. He just said that to get out of an uncomfortable situation that was unexpected.

  • http://ja-js.blogtownhall.com rmekrnl

    And I don’t mean just MacDonald’s, either!

It’s about time for governors to stand up for states’ rights against the federal government, and against Obama and his progressive henchmen and handmaidens in particular.

After all, the 10th Amendment is important and governors taking action to reinstate states’ rights which have been eroded over the years in favor of an ever-increasing, ever-larger, ever-overreaching federal government is overdue.

A Republican majority in the House and governors intent on protecting their states and citizens are both ways we can reign in and realign the federal government to do what it is supposed to do, provide for the common defense and promote the general welfare, and otherwise stay out of our business.

So, yea, to Governor-Elect Nikki Haley (SC) and others like Rick Perry (TX), Jan Brewer (AZ), Bob McDonnell (VA), Chris Christie (NJ), Bobby Jindal (LA), and Haley Barbour (MS), all of whom ain’t so shy about calling a spade a spade anymore.

Hmmm, all of those are Republicans in southern states. And more Republican governors-elect are yet to take office in the South and Midwest. You know, what the glitterati, literati, progressive professors and general snob-o-nati derisively refer to as “fly over” country.

Maybe we’re about to see that the Left Coast, the elitist liberal lamestream media, the New Yawk crowd, the DC Beltway Bandits, the pols and pundits, and others of their ilk realize, too late, that they don’t run the whole country like they thought they did.
