The Gospel of Luke 2:1-20
In those days Caesar Augustus issued a decree that a census should be taken of the entire Roman world. (This was the first census that took place while Quirinius was governor of Syria.) And everyone went to his own town to register.
So Joseph also went up from the town of Nazareth in Galilee to Judea, to Bethlehem the town of David, because he belonged to the house and line of David. He went there to register with Mary, who was pledged to be married to him and was expecting a child. While they were there, the time came for the baby to be born, and she gave birth to her firstborn, a son. She wrapped him in cloths and placed him in a manger, because there was no room for them in the inn.
And there were shepherds living out in the fields nearby, keeping watch over their flocks at night. An angel of the Lord appeared to them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them, and they were terrified. But the angel said to them, “Do not be afraid. I bring you good news of great joy that will be for all the people. Today in the town of David a Savior has been born to you; he is Christ the Lord. This will be a sign to you: You will find a baby wrapped in cloths and lying in a manger.”
Suddenly a great company of the heavenly host appeared with the angel, praising God and saying,
and on earth peace to men on whom his favor rests.”
When the angels had left them and gone into heaven, the shepherds said to one another, “Let’s go to Bethlehem and see this thing that has happened, which the Lord has told us about.”
So they hurried off and found Mary and Joseph, and the baby, who was lying in the manger. When they had seen him, they spread the word concerning what had been told them about this child, and all who heard it were amazed at what the shepherds said to them. But Mary treasured up all these things and pondered them in her heart. The shepherds returned, glorifying and praising God for all the things they had heard and seen, which were just as they had been told.

For just over 5 years this place has really educated me and increased the scope of my understanding of all things political. It’s been eye opening to say the least. But it’s also been very self affirming in that I found a large group of people who I could relate to politically and have a beneficial relationship with. I was no longer an island unto myself in my political thinking, I was now part of a huge chain of islands.
I know I know… But the analogy works and I consider my time here a gift unto itself.
So…again, Merry Christmas to all of you. May G-ds Blessing Fill the Lives of Yourselves and your Loved Ones while we celebrate the Birth of Our Fathers Gift to us, His son Jesus Christ.

If I have any one wish this Christmas season, it is to the see the worth of the human soul restored in our country.
We’ve reached a point where little value is being placed on human life, much less to take into context the worth and value of the soul presented within that life.
But I know from my own experiences that when a person first gets a glimpse of the worth and value of their own soul, as it exists in the eyes of God Himself, even if this reality comes to them later in life rather than sooner, it changes everything. There’s a joy in it, a gladness for it, an appreciation that God made us each to have a soul of our own, that no words can describe and no human force can ever strip away.

It is usually already highlighted. If not one click inside the code box will usually highlight all of it. Make sure it is all highlighted. There is usually more code than what you see at first. In my browser I see only the first 4 or 5 lines. There are usually at least 10-12. Copy that, then paste into your comment.
You may also notice below the box containing the code are options to resize the vid and add a different colored border. If you choose one or more of these options you may have to re-highlight the code in order to copy it. Again, make sure all of it is highlighted.

jstjoan (Diary) Saturday, December 25th at 2:34AM EDT (link)I was first inspired to join the discussion during the first rumblings of the Scott Brown/Martha Coakley race that was just gaining momentum during the holidays last year.
I had already been to many Tea Party protests up to that point. But, coming here and learning the facts made the difference in my decision to get off the computer and active in my community.
I’ve since been active in my localTea Party organization. I’ve been to several county GOP meetings where I was even able to meet my congressman (Westmoreland) and joined in phone banking for GA13 and door to door for GA8 during the election cycle. I volunteered for the Karen Handel GA gubernatorial campaign and handed out thousands of push cards and bumber stickers on her behalf.
I am so glad I found this wonderful and intellectual group of conservatives from whom I have learned so much over the last year.
Thank you all for sharing your knowledge which gave me the courage to become involved. Merry Christmas to all the patriots here at RedState!

In Erick’s OP, in Luke, we see that God used the Roman census (taken to help collect more taxes) to fulfill the prophecies of the Messiah’s coming. So as the new year plays out, be faithful, look for God’s hand in your lives, and remember that God has great things in store for us.
