Thought for the Day Open Thread

When John F. Kennedy was assassinated, one of the first thoughts of many was that it was an ultra-right winger who did. Turned out to be a Karl Marx fan.

When Congresswoman Giffords was shot, immediately the media wanted to discuss heated rhetoric and the tea parties. Turned out the shooter is a Karl Marx fan.

Prior to Ronald Reagan’s attempted assassination, many lefties were very vocal that they hoped he’d be assassinated or die because of his age because he’d otherwise start a nuclear war with the Soviets.

When Hinckley attempted to assassinate Reagan, there was no discussion the media about left-wing rhetoric or attempts to blame the left.

Consider this an open thread.

that the Left has been cooking over a hot stove up for a generation or more. It’s only natural that a few would fall thru the cracks, and swap the vile invective of Kos, or their own little Twitter-ville for a semi-automatic.

Back in the 1990′s there was a serial killer preying upon black children in the Atlanta area. Several children were missing.

all you heard during the investigation that the profile would be a white, marginally employed male.

when the killer turned out to be black, the media dropped the story very quickly.

  • steve010

The Sheriff was not surprised that the inevitable happened in his neck of the woods, being that it is the epicenter of the vitriol. Did he forget to put the meet and greet on his calendar? If he was so sure something like this would happen, maybe he should have assigned a couple of deputies to the Congresswoman? But maybe that is not what the taxpayers of Pima county are paying him to do.

Wonder why we aren’t seeing and hearing this news from the so-called “media”.

    From an article at WSJ

    “Suspect Fixated on Giffords”

Mr. Loughner had complained to a friend about how he was treated by the Arizona lawmaker during an event several years ago, which aggravated Mr. Loughner, according to the friend.
    ————————————–
Mr. Montanaro said his friend “was never really political,” but “really tried to be philosophical.” Mr. Loughner liked “contemplating the meaning of words and the origin of language,” Mr. Montanaro said.

That interest might have triggered Mr. Loughner’s first meeting with Ms. Giffords in 2007. Mr. Loughner said he asked the lawmaker, “How do you know words mean anything?” recalled Mr. Montanaro. He said Mr. Loughner was “aggravated” when Ms. Giffords, after pausing for a couple of seconds, “responded to him in Spanish and moved on with the meeting.”

Or hearing screams of outrage over pictures like this?

    Oh, that’s right, it’s ok if you’re a democrat.

Interesting factoid from WND: Loughner’s school seems to have used the

Was Loughner’s nihilism and alienation fed by his education?

There was someone on FOX News earlier who said the Sheriff could cause problems for the prosecutions case if he keeps bringing his political point of views into it.

Although I understand he’s upset because he was friends with the Congresswoman and the Judge, but it would be an added tragedy if this case had a complication because a Democratic Sheriff couldn’t act responsibly enough to keep his politics to himself during the investigation.

  • steve010

From the Sheriff?s website: 10:11am first 911 call is received and at 10:15am ? 1st Deputy arrives.

So, the 1st Deputy arrives four minutes after the shooting. This leads me to believe 1) that this is the jurisdiction of the Sheriff and not of any other police agency
2)that no county deputy was assigned to the Congresswoman?s meet and greet for protective purposes because the 1st Deputy arrived four minutes after the shooting.
    3) this Sheriff makes no apologies for not protecting the Hon. Ms. Giffords or the Federal Judge and blames it on Sarah Palin , et. al.

I am taking the liberty to reprint here my email from yesterday. I sent a forwarded to Leader Cantor.

    Below the underline…

    _________________________________________________

    Dear Brett,

As are all Americans, I am greatly distressed by the criminal act perpetrated against your colleague. No one deserves to be attacked in such a cowardly way. My sympathy extends to Congresswoman Giffords, her family, and the families of the other victims of yesterday’s attack. I pray for her complete recovery. I pray for comfort for all the other wounded. God’s Grace must be sufficient for the murdered. I pray for His Comfort for the surviving family members; man can do no more.

I wish only the best for you, your family, and our country. We must not be deterred in our desire to see America remain as the greatest nation on Earth.

We must not allow the actions of yesterday to stop us from moving forward to benefit America’s citizenry. Cuts in spending, repeal of the Jobs-Killing Health Care Act, and repaying our national debt are all more important than any other issues which face us. A time of reflection and prayer must be observed, however, over 300 million people are depending on the House to act. I hope, and I know, you all will do so at exactly the appropriate time. You have my full support.

I am distressed by the comments of members of the opposition who continue to play games of division to gain some sort of political advantage. I heard it yesterday and this morning. I am ashamed for them as I weep for our country.

God bless you. Take care of yours, and please continue to work to strengthen our economy and our country that we both love.

    Sincerely,

PS, Marx and Hitler were peas in a pod. Fascism is Communism’s cousin, not its opposite.

  • tedpomeroy

    charlie,

Hitler and Marx were of the same ilk. What they shared in common was that they looked at God as in the way of where they thought the world should be.

Both of them were hostile to religion. I know Hitler prosecuted the Holocaust, but Christians were next for him.

Both of them shared a world view called monism which reduces the soul to material circumstances, or in other words, the material is all there is.

  • http://www.hakubi.us/ Neil Stevens

Stalin and Mao killed more people between them than Hitler did.

Why does the left immediately attack the tea party when a white guy(who has zero ties to TP) shoots someone?

But when an American Muslim guy yells “Allah Akhbar” while shooting his own military the left is silent and urges restraint on jumping to conclusions?

    AP story

Mistrust of government was Loughner’s defining conviction, the friends said. He believed the U.S. government was behind 9/11, and worried that governments were maneuvering to create a unified monetary system (“a New World Order currency” one friend said) so that social elites and bureaucrats could control the rest of the world.

Any significance to the fact that Giffords voted against Pelosi?

I read somewhere the murderer was a leftist druggie who worked in ’07 for Giffords campaign. Wonder if he was mad about that vote?

The KOSKid that opined that Giffords was DEAD to him, and supported her campaign. Just wonderin’

  • spainishirish

You may, but not because the left-wing media intended you to recall she was a rabid Obama partisan. Hell, they didn’t even try a “teachable moment” with her, and suspect this will turn out just as badly for them.

This stuff just doesn’t work for the left-wing media anymore. Alternative media force facts out, dispel faux causal connections, and call out blatant left-wing lies.

…….ANYTHING that does not SUPPORT Socialism or Communism is a bad thing. The left will lie, distort, and much worse to empower Socialism, Communism, government control, censorship of free speech, the destruction of the Constitution, and the destruction of capitalism …ANY ANY COST.

The left IS Socialist and worse by their OWN written declaration and have simply changed the name to Progressive so that they can hide their true declaration and actually put more Communism into their agenda and attempt to covertly fool the public.

Equally, for the left, ANYTHING that leads toward SUPPORT of U.S. Constitution, Integrity, Responsibility, Capitalism, limited government, strong individual freedoms, and free speech will be ATTACKED at all costs.

The American people have PEACEFULLY declared that they want smaller government, MASSIVE spending cuts, and the REPEAL OF OBAMACARE. The people EFFECTIVELY communicated and ACTED to CHANGE government by VOTING.

The reason that the left (DEMS) are mad now is that the American people have spoken the truth EFFECTIVELY and RESPONSIBLY.
The left (DEMS) want this free speech shut down…because it was RESPONSIBLE, EFFECTIVE, and NON VIOLENT

Since the American people are EFFECTIVELY and RESPONSIBLY returning the country to the Constitution, limited government, and individual freedom, the left (DEMS) will do ANYTHING to stop this by lying and distorting, which is the way of the Communist.

Make no mistake that the Dem spin here, which is GREATLY EMPOWERED by the MSM LIES AND DISTORTION, is an attempt to shut down free speech. Free speech has nothing to do with this kids sickness. THE KID WAS JUST SICK.

It appears that the Dems are already starting to see how disgraceful they’re spin has been and they are starting to move from their censorship conversion to attempts at saying this was because more gun control is needed …which is equally disgraceful and idiotic.

This had nothing to do with gun control.

I am very disappointed however by the Republicans coddling of this and ALLOWING this spin (lie). A day of PRAYER was and is appropriate, however shutting down the House for a week was GROSSLY inappropriate.

The left in Congress and the bulk of the main stream media should be GROSSLY condemned for the spin and LIES that they have evolved the shooting into. I rate it as the lowest form of scum that I have witnessed in a long time.

For the Republicans in Congress, the left’s spin should be condemned. AND BY NO MEANS should the LEFT’S tactics here be allowed to evoke ANY limitations of free speech or ANY limitations of access to public officials such as in Town Halls.

I will be watching closely for any Dem Congressman to suggest this further (they already started to). I will be watching EVEN CLOSER though to see that NO Republican Congressman fosters or allows anything of this kind but rather that they IMMEDIATELY speak out SQUELCHING this type of distortion and move on with the business of the House

I will be looking for the Republican Congress to QUICKLY shut rhetoric down and QUICKLY get back on their original course and NOT STRAY FROM IT ONE BIT.

The Dems and the MSM have shown clearly that their love is for radical Socialist, ideology and that they will lie as often as they need to to foster those oppressive ideologies and whittle away at Freedom, and the US Constitution.

Thankfully, the American people are not going to stand for this.
I’ve already gotten dozens of emails from fellow REC members who are disgusted with this and we’ll be addressing it tonight at the REC meeting along with NOT skipping a beat in the furthering of the agenda that the Republicans need to engage in…STARTING with repealing Obamacare and DEFUNDING a LOT…..AND REVERSING THE ILLEGAL FCC MOVE TO CENSOR FREE SPEECH!!

  • steve010

Mein Kampf and Das Kapital in college courses and basically totalitarianism is the same no matter what label you give it. And by the way, even though, I read these books, I’ve never owed a gun or been prone to violent acts.

….need to start a campaign against the specific media anchors. Just calling them “MSM” is not enough. Start shaming them personally.

Gabby Giffords’ platform included enforcing the border. After a meeting with Homeland Sec. Janet Napolitano, she issued the following press release.

U.S. REP. GABRIELLE GIFFORDS CRITICIZES SLOW FEDERAL RESPONSE TO BORDER SECURITY CRISIS

    http://giffords.house.gov/2010/05/us-rep-gabrielle-giffords-criticizes-slow-federal-response-to-border-security-crisis.shtml

?Washington needs to see what Southern Arizonans see,? Giffords said after the meeting. ?They need to understand what we live with every day. Once they do, my hope is they will respond to our requests to send the National Guard to the border and increase the number of Border Patrol agents along our country?s most troubled international boundary.?

Giffords has repeatedly called for the deployment of the Guard since Krentz?s March 27 murder. She renewed that call most recently on April 31, after Pinal County Sheriff’s Deputy Louie Puroll was shot and wounded by suspected drug smugglers while on patrol in a remote stretch of desert south of Phoenix.

Last week, she joined with a bipartisan group of lawmakers from five states to call upon Obama to deploy the National Guard to the Arizona-Mexico border. She also recently introduced legislation to crack down on the ability of drug cartels to launder money.

?Border security is not a Republican issue or a Democratic issue, it?s an American issue,? Giffords said at that time. ?Every American, no matter which party they belong to or where they live, is deeply concerned about restoring law and order in our border communities. These communities have suffered enough. President Obama needs to immediately deploy the National Guard and send a clear message to the drug cartels: We will fight you, we will stop you and we will never waiver in our commitment to securing our border.?

Giffords? 8th Congressional District in Southeastern Arizona includes 114 miles of the U.S.-Mexico border. Her district is one of 10 along the border: two are in California, two in Arizona, one in New Mexico and five in Texas.

    ============================================================

    How best to honor her?

How about the Gabrielle Giffords Act to Enforce Border Security?

Plain and simple. Unfortunately, I have a family member who was diagnosed as clinically schizophrenic and the sad truth about insanity is (to use a talking point from the Left) there is no “there” there.

It is just astonishing that the Left’s newest rallying cry/weapon against conservatives is an insane person. Having first hand, up close, personal dealings with a person who suffers from insanity…I’m just beyond words to adequately express how dumbfounded I am.

This stew has been cooking for decades. Over my 60ish decades, I have seen them ratchet up the heat from a simmer to a full-fledged boil. And when they see their influence and power in danger (a la 11/2), they add a blow torch to the flame.

But sometimes you turn up the heat so high you end up burning the stew. As more and more info comes out on this very sick kid, it may just end up that the lefty MSM and their cronies may just end up with a bowl of stew that’s not fit to eat.

Numerous times, by friends, the college where he studied, and others. Apparently the sheriff’s office repeatedly assured the callers that the situation was under control. Some “under control”!

I think part of the reason this sheriff is shooting off his mouth is that (besides being a Democrat, with an agenda) he’s covering his own behind, because he didn’t lift a finger to check out the reports, or do anything about the kid — until it was too late.

  • Scope

Meghan Kelly asked him about that yesterday, and asked how long ago it was. He wouldn’t say much other than it was reported to him fairly recently.

Rush speculated today that the Sheriff is possibly trying to cover his own butt, because he was incompetent in doing his job. Rush wondered if there were any reports to the Sheriff made against this guy. Rush apparently didn’t hear the one about the death threat. Obviously he wouldn’t and couldn’t say who the threats were made against. The grease in the Sheriff’s frying pan is sizziling, and he is just bouncing around in it.

An attorney, on FOX yesterday, brought up the fact that Loughner won’t be able to use insanity as a defense. In order to use insanity, it has to be proven that you didn’t know the difference between right and wrong. Because Loughner said “please don’t be mad at me” on his goodbye on facebook, he knew that he was doing wrong. With the envelope found saying “I planned ahead” and then the assasination of Giffords, it is also an attempted pre-mediated murder.

I guess in light of the FACTS that are coming out, MSNBC and CNN (yes, I am naming names) are beginning to do a little backpeddling. I almost fell off the treadmill at my gym when I saw CNN actually defend Sarah Palin. They even showed a clip of her calling for non-violence.

MSNBC had a an expert on and Matthews actually LET him state that it would not have mattered if Giffords was a Repub or Dem because the shooter was mentally ill. Of course, they will never formally apologize. In their arrogance they just act like they were fair-minded all along and that the lack of journalistic integrity that they exhibited within 30 seconds of this tragedy never happened.

Of course, one cannot expect miracles from MSM, after all they believe in never wasting an opportunity when a crisis occurs. They are calling for a toning down of the rhetoric. I wish that they actually meant it on both sides of the political spectrum, but history and experience has taught us that it means that conservatives need to sit down and shut-up. I have news for them, their tactics are not working. The American people are not falling for it anymore.

The left and their lackeys in the state-run medias need to look this word up. Just when you think that these brainiacs can sink any lower, they tripped over themselves to get to Tucson and tie this to conservatives and the tea-party. The woman “hero” that tore the magazine from the assasin’s hand, took the time to tell Shepard Smith at Fox, that this was the fault of the tea-party and the “extreme” rhetoric coming from the right and talk radio. Sheriff Dupnik wasted no time trying to pin this vile act on the right. The left never lets any opportunity go to waste, from the wellstone memorial/ campaign stop and fundraiser, to the teddy kennedy funeral / obamacare info-mercial, their shame has no depth limit. Let me put forth a little list of my own, every presidential assasination from Lincoln to J.F.K. came from the left, both attempted presidential assasinations came from the left, R.F.K., M.L.K., Malcom X, The Jonestown massacre (jones was a fervent marxist), where a sitting congressman was killed, and now the Tucson massacre and the attempt on congresswoman Gifford’s life. To ice this shame cake, the left should start blaming Liberterians, one of their historic planks was/is the legalization of marijuana, Loughner wanted to make reefer our national currency.

Communists, socialists, marxists, etc…..they all came out from under their rocks. Tragedy brings out the worst of the worst in these people some of who also call themselves liberals or progressives. Its apparent they regress into a devolved state or perhaps they always think this way. Is it no wonder the left media attack this country so often while pretending to be neutral, caring and honest about what the left has done time and again. They actually have the arrogance to think that the American people cannot see exactly what they are doing. They are trying to wash their hands of their blatant involvement in blaming innocent people for something they had nothing to do with.

The American people watched in disgust as they politicized a tragedy before even some of the victims’ families had been notified. Words cannot describe how callous and heartless such an action is.

Fox cannot be let off the hook too much either. Why they did not engage in the reckless speculation that was going on, they did precious little to push back or even call for a stop to it before the facts came out. The only person I saw on Fox call for a halt to all the nonsense was Meghan Kelly.
