Washington Post’s Greg Sargent Demands Unions Get Violent. Union Goons Attack Fox Reporter.

The Washington Post’s leftwing mouthpiece, Greg Sargent, who they ostensibly pay to be an objective reporter is on twitter demanding that unions in Wisconsin get violent to get their way.

In what we can presume is unrelated to Greg Sargent’s call, a Fox News reporter was attacked by union thugs in Wisconsin.

Once I pointed out on Twitter that Sargent was calling for unions to get violent in Wisconsin, Sargent declared he was not promoting violence despite actually writing on twitter:

Dear union thugs: Will you please get violent in Wisconsin already? Pretty please?

Note also that Sargent is calling union members “thugs”.

The point here is not that Sargent actually is endorsing violence. I’m sure he really was being sarcastic.

The point is that Greg Sargent, after demanding that unions get violent in Wisconsin, wants us to extend to him a courtesy — that of not taking his tweet at face value — he has a willful pattern of refusing to do with conservatives and Republicans.

See, for example, his insistence that the tea party movement wants “to reverse” abolition, women’s suffrage, and civil rights.

What’s good for the goose . . .

Exit point: Yes, I believe Sargent was being sarcastic. The problem is that if I or Sarah Palin or anyone on the right had said something similar, Greg Sargent and his friends would never, ever extend us the courtesy of recognizing the sarcasm, etc. If you need proof, just dig around for Sargent’s writings about Sarah Palin’s target map.

[UPDATED:] Sargent demand we look at his record, so we did.

Anyone who’s been on the Internet for more than a couple of days knows that sarcasm and irony – any form of tone, really – is very hard to translate into print, thus the use of emoticons like ;-) to indicate the comment comes with a wink.

As you noted, no conservative would EVER be accorded the presumption of being anything less than calling for violence, so why are you grabbing the ankles for a partisan with a track record of dishonest posts in the past when he gets busted for DEMANDING violence? To show we’re better than the Left? Ummmm, no. As Dubya proved for eight years, turning the other cheek just gets that one slapped as well and your butt kicked.

Instead of giving him a free pass, why not hold his clear calls for violence up along with this bleats that he’s being mischaracterized and make him twist and shimmy to tweet his way out of his uncivil comments?

    Expose liars. Don’t abet them.

    truly is a pathetic creature.

  • alaskahome1959

When Sarah Palin used descriptive words and phrases such as “target our opponents”–terms which were strategic in nature and not in any manner calls for any form of violence–she was blamed for specific acts of violence. Now, when leftists call for *specific* acts of violence they are given a pass because his words should be viewed as calls for civility and not conveying a call for violence? The left can twist common sense, reason and logic in shapes no pretzel maker ever conceived.

Look at the dynamic that is being created in the culture re; violence and violent rhetoric.

Nevermind the truth, or the appearance of truth. Something insidious is underway, and it is permeating the culture regardless of which side of the cultural divide one happens to be on.

The media, one of only two viable political parties, the President of the United States, and all their ardent supporters are working to create this dynamic – and it is this:

We will throw our entire effort into portraying the concerns of the American people as radical, and their actions as violent, regardless of truth, and regardless of what anyone can see and hear with their own eyes and ears. Conservatives and everyday Americans will be accused of violent rhetoric and actions even in the total absence of it.

Now they send out phase two of that signal, and it is this:

Leftist thugs can do whatever they wish, and there will be no accountability. The media’s got your back. The Democrat party’s got your back. The President of the United States has got your back. You’ll suffer no consequences, so get out there, and act boldly. In the meanwhile, we’ll keep up with the accusations of violence against your conservative enemies, while you do your dirty work.

They know that we know that they know there is a double standard of accountability, and that they are guilty of exactly that of which they accuse us. That is beside the point now. The point now is that they are subtly being given the go-ahead.

  • twinelm

What is good for the goose IS good for the gander. It is TIME to hold these goons accountable for their rhetoric. All of it. Why exactly should this idiot get a pass for inciting violence, hyperbolic or otherwise?
This is a war, dammit. And we MUST fight TO WIN IT!

  • vamoose

Mike Tobin was on assignment in Israel during rocket attacks, but it took a trip to Madison for him to suffer violence. I hope Tobin and Fox press charges.

  • throwback59

    .

  • NeoKong

There have been plenty of examples of some union goon getting out of line and assaulting somebody but this ain’t one of them.
It’s a little bit of a stretch to be calling what happened with Mike Tobin an “attack.”
I have watched him talk about it several times and it seems he is almost embarrassed that he even mentioned it.
He described it this morning to Megyn Kelly as a charlie horse.

Mike Tobin is a big guy. If someone actually attacked him they might be missing a few teeth.

  • johnt

What are we, the docile cattle taking the one way trip? Piece it all together. It’s a piece with the Journalist thing, a pervert named Ackermann would vent all his homicidal violence, then close with, “of course, I’m only kidding”. Indeed. We have arrived at the point where almost every day a Normal Person gets assaulted by the historical figure of the barbaric Goth, and yet the fools on our side play nice, rollover for them if you please.
Humor yourselves, but some awareness and prep may be in order.
2012 is truly starting to look more ominous.

  • littlehouse18

I fear they will not give up their power peacefully. Yet so far I believe we have gained a lot of moral high ground by exposing their tactics and being peaceful ourselves.

Now is not the time to give that up. We must continue to stick to our principles and expose them for who they are. If we respond in kind at this point (and I pray we never have to), we will not have built up enough support yet and lose much of what we have. Many would then see us as on the same level as these goons, particularly with the media against us.

  • wrveres

    am ready for the fight.

in my best Charlie Sheen voice ..

“i will destroy you in the air, and i will deploy my ordinance to the ground”

    “Bring it”

  • barry915barry

While it appears the the physical altercation is not shown in the video, the reporter clearly states 2x that he was “hit”. The crowd is clearly being aggressive, hostile and confrontational–the very definition of “attack”. Not that Erick needs defending, I find your diminishing of the characterization of the attack to be unsubstantiated. Your dismissive attitude towards this particular event, in view of the entirety of the left “protests”, is disappointing. I suggest that if you give them two steps they will take 3. If you let a little bit go, boundaries are bound to be stretched. It occurs to me that if they aren’t called out for their acts of violence, these same acts of violence are likely to become more frequent and escalate. IMHO, your characterization does not help, but actually empowers the thuggery. Barry

  • NeoKong

It didn’t even interrupt his report or cause him to raise his voice. He seemed mildly irritated at most.

You’re missing the point. If you want to be upset and point to dangerous and hostile union thugs then you got the wrong video.
If he was assaulted then Fox would have shown it. Just because they cut away from him doesn’t mean the camera was not rolling.
    The camera is always rolling.

People need to be careful because when some resort to hyperbole and rhetoric then it diminishes credibility. If we are to call every single instance of screaming and shoving as violence then the word loses it’s meaning.

  • barry915barry

I just don’t not want to diminish what looks like increasing rhetoric and aggressive actions on the part of the left. Barry.

  • earlgrey

is ready to fold on the budget proposal. Is it possible he is just writing that to generate distrust and fear among the GOP in the badger state or do I need to get one of those tin foil hats?

  • Red_in_SC

Violence or the threat of physical harm have always been a big part of union activity and organizing. The Teamsters and the AFL-CIO are among the worst for using thuggery to get their way, often against their own members, or those they claim to represent.

See it for what it is and don’t feign surprise when the truth is once again revealed. I wish Fox reporters would stop being so dang noble. If you are assaulted, do the right thing, and bring charges against offenders before they REALLY hurt somebody.

  • redpenny

and playing nice nice and turning the other cheek won’t work. The situation at Madison has gone far far too far and it’s time for the state govt. to put a stop to this mob scene.Clear the capitol and get on with the business of state.Unions are a blight on the nation and have long out lived their original purpose.

  • southernpatriots

Union thugs beat up an African American. Union thugs rough up a reporter. Democrat gang thugs intimidate white voters in Philly and the Obama Justice Dept. refuses to prosecute because the victims are white. Rise up Amrerica!

  • lovesalldogs

wow how sad when a paper puts out to hurt people. We have finally gone the full route back to when unions first started and then some. Goons is right!
How stupid is the Washington Post.???? Obviously very stupid.
It is really ashame that this even taking place since a governor is trying to balance a budget to make a state work.
All of this is punishmen for those of us who DO NOT BELIEVE IN OBAMA AND THE LIBERAL DEMOCRATS WOW SAD IN THIS COUNTRY.

For me, sad is that instead of letting each state do what they have to do to make ends meet, these cowardly democrats are wanting people hurt in order to agree with the unions.

Well, folks, unions have been destroying this country for a very very long time now and you are really seeing what they are about when a newpaper writes something like this.

TIME TO GET RID OF THEM AND LIBERAL DEMOCRATS!!!
I pray to God above that it can happen…..for the sake of my kids and my grandkids.

  • grammy1

It’s not enough to roll around on the WI Capitol floor stinking the place up now the thugs are being encouraged to bite. It’s time for all the protesters to take a time out and go stand in the nearest corner. Jeanie

  • grammy1

EWW Ouch!! They hurt. Why are you downplaying it? The attacker crossed the line.

  • grammy1

    You said it, redpenny!

  • myron_j_poltroonian

The point is, I believe, is that when I doesn’t work, they’ll find a “better” use for the tunnel; they’ll point out that it’s cheaper to use it to suck water from the north state than the current system of pumping it over the Tehachapi Mountains.

  • myron_j_poltroonian

either to the side or in the back, and yell and point: “Hey! He’s got a gun!”. When they turn to look, either cut and run, or pick your targets.

  • williamjameson

This is the mind of the rabid liberal media buffoon. I called him out on twitter. Funny how he wants an apology over another issue which is also typical of rabid liberals…..they goal post to another issue like a child just to say look what he did. ROFL!! Can’t shift the blame when its written on paper and captured on the internet FOR LIFE!

Sargent called for violence, such language should never be used by media workers especially when their twitter account has direct ties to the WaPo., I won’t call Sargent a professional, more of “Unprofessional Leftie” using his company to pretend it was only sarcasm.

Has Sargent ever criticized Palin about her Tweets? How about tweets from other celebrities? Sure he has and now Sargent is the news. Anyone who acts on Sargents call for violence makes Sargent responsible for the crime as well. Erick doesn’t owe this caricature an apology.

    Juggernauzt @Twitter

  • williamjameson

To a man selling tea party items. Beaten up by SEIU thugs and days later an NAACP spokeman calls the black man who was beaten by blacks is called “an uncle tom” Some people are pathetic. I’m quite confident Greg Sargent never spoke out against the St.Louis incident, heck he probably welcomed it.

  • soljerblue

it was devised by Mahatma Ghandi many years ago. It was replicated during the civil rights struggle of the 60s, often in my home state of Alabama. It’s called passive resistance, and it works — BUT: you have to be willing to keep coming back while heads are being busted. I’m quite serious — there IS a cost — but the end result is that the moral high ground will be ours, and law enforcement will have to act. Now, my instinct, as with many of you, is to start swinging in response. But that is precisely what Obama-Napolitano would like to see — a perfect excuse to impose some version of lock-down or martial law. THAT would be a defeat for us, a victory for the dark side. And I do not for a moment believe that, given enough of an excuse, the administration we have now wouldn’t impose it in a heartbeat. They have shown they care nothing for the Constitution. The way we win is not to play their game. But victory will have a cost. It always does, and this time will be no different.

  • powertothepeople

hence I am not sure the Mahatma Ghandi approach would work. Not too mention his discourse was with government and received worldwide acclaim. We are dealing with union thugs who could care less about our reaction one way or the other, could care less how they are perceived in the news, and only have one intent which is instilling fear via threats.

While I can not nor would I recommend using force to combat their attacks, I also can not stand against doing what is necessary to protect ones person. Regardless of one choice in how to defend themselves, filing charges is an absolute must.

  • tojoma

…is only a hair’s breadth away. Surely you know that. I commend the reporter for keeping his cool, but one man in the midst of a crowd of antagonists can be very dangerous. Please don’t defend someone in a mob who is willing to hit the person who is in an obviously weaker position.

  • NeoKong

Let the man himself tell you it was no big deal.

    Mediaite.

  • pompey

…it appears that the socialist want violent confrontation with real Americans. No surprise there since historically they have always resorted to violence in their attempts to take over a country.

This being the case and apparently it is either now or later, then I say; “let’s get it on”……right here…right now!
