The Incestuous World of American Politics

I get asked all the time why people are so cynical about politics. Here’s a great example: Andrea Saul, who was Charlie Crist’s communications director.

Here’s one of her attacks on Marco Rubio:

“As the truth begins to surface about Speaker Rubio’s double billing of taxpayers, lavish spending of Republican money, and, just today, excessive pork spending, no ad will be able to stop voters from seeing he is not who he claims to be. A Miami lobbyist, Speaker Rubio has proved he is just another typical politician who uses his public office for personal gain and only comes clean once caught. Floridians deserve a true steward of their hard-earned taxpayer dollars and a public servant who does the right thing, even when no one is looking.”

Here is another attack on Marco Rubio from Andrea Saul:

A clear pattern is emerging in Speaker Rubio’s unfortunate behavior. The lobbyist-politician whines and plays the victim while continuing to make every effort to hide the facts surrounding his personal financial gain while in office.

Here is another attack on Rubio where Saul distorted his tax record — a distortion deemed false by even the liberals in the media.

Here is yet another Andrea Saul attack on Marco Rubio:

While Speaker Rubio claims he will not be co-opted by big government, his record as a Miami lobbyist while simultaneously serving in the legislature demonstrates he is willing to be co-opted by much worse

In October of 2009, Crist used the Florida GOP’s credit card to fly Andrea Saul down to his campaign. On April 29, 2010, Charlie Crist became an independent candidate and Andrea Saul quit working for him.

Today, Mitt Romney hired her.

Romney, by the way, waited to endorse Rubio, until April 16, 2010, waiting until it became clear Crist was going to bolt the party.

And everyone will now sing kumbaya and carry on.

a Republican – this is it.

Mitt Romney is flawed, damaged and useless as a candidate for the Republican party.

If Mitt Romney becomes the nominee of the Republican party, the Republican party will cease to exist as a viable counter to the democratic (socialist) party.

. . .including Politicians themselves, but true even more so of members of the Media, is that — Right or Left — of many there is an inescapable sense that they could as easily be working for the opposition, were circumstances slightly different.

Is it really hard to imagine Shep Smith reversing polarity? (Not that it would be much of a leap, but he is the first to come to my mind.)

  • Tbone

Interestingly, that doesn’t affect my opinion of him one bit.

… just looks worse and worse.

    Rubio/West 2012

I admit that I’ll hold my nose and vote for ANYone over Obama, but I am sick and tired of having to choose between the lesser of 2 dummies.

That basically sums up Romney. We remember when he stood on the sidelines in NY-23 so that he wouldn’t wager against the winner.

  • veritaseequitas

for Mitt Romney. The guy just spells sleaze to me.

  • http://theminorityreportblog.com Repair_Man_Jack

“Flip” Romney is at it again.

  • veritaseequitas

are no “dummies” who get anywhere near the nomination. Remember Dole and McCain and look where we are at.

He’s the GOP side of the cross-party corruption known as The Combine.

(google combine, kjellander, kass for more details)

He (Kjellander) ran the state campaign for Romney last time. Whoever the criminals associate with .. we need to avoid!

I’ll pass on voting for Mitt, he wasn’t anywhere near the top of my list anyways.

BTW Rubio/West can’t happen since they’re both Floridians.

in this case an attention getting device to get people to realize that the 2012 election is for all the marbles, the tipping point, game over point, etc. etc……

If Obama is re-elected then the USA won’t come back to greatness.

Mitt Romney would be the ruin of not just the Republican party but America as a whole.

From the link in the “Today” Mitt Romney hired her:

The press release notes that Saul most recently served as Press Secretary for Carly Fiorina?s U.S. Senate race in California. Prior to the 2010 cycle, she worked as top communications aide to Sen. Orrin Hatch (R-Utah). During the 2008 election, Saul was Director of Media Affairs for McCain-Palin, responsible for organizing television, radio and surrogate activity. She also held a similar position at the Republican National Committee.

It also notes Saul “briefly served as Communications Director for Gov. Charlie Crist during his recent U.S. Senate run but resigned upon his decision to switch party affiliation.”

I’m not implying Erick is wrong to criticize the hiring of a communications director that specializes in making false statements that sound factual… or that this individual has worked notoriously for establishment candidates…

However… I think the link to Crist is a lot less damning and “incestuous” as implied. Especially when considering Andrea Saul resigned when Crist jumped the party, and she is more likely being brought in through the Romney connection of Orrin Hatch, John McCain, or Carly Fiorina’s people.

But hey… its a slow Thursday.

Hyperbole doesn’t add any value to this particular discussion.

Secondarily, you fail to draw out your logical conclusions beyond the ‘what if’ of the primary election.

What if? indeed. What if Romney become the candidate, and fails to do anything of real substance to bring America back to “greatness”.

Does that really mean that the GOP, Conservatives, Libertarians, and freedom loving people should just give up? Life goes on, until it ends for the individual… isn’t that why we fight for individual liberty and justice?

I’m sorry I don’t see how this type of hyperbole helps at all… it just causes the choir to stop singing.

With his Resume, family history and telegenic stage presence he looks as presidential as Warren G. Harding did in 1920.

But he is a Northeastern Republican, more Rockerfeller than Reagan, more big government elitist than limited government ideologue; more Blue Dog than Red State. He is the Father of Obamacare whether he acknowledges it or not.

He is way down on the list of quality, qualified candidates to move the governance of the country as far to the right as the country actually is and, personally, I think his electability is a bit overblown.

  • jmimac351

Chris Cristie sure talks about it at length a lot. He doesn’t just give a “no” answer. His answers almost seemed designed to draw a response out of a certain someone… “I could win the White House.” Imagine how much The One wants to snipe about that comment? Yet, notice that he is staying clear of that Gov, for now.

Why is Obama not attacking Chris Cristie the way he is attacking Scott Walker? Obama knows the power that Cristie has with the microphone. He only wishes he could do with his teleprompter what Cristie does off the cuff.

Cristie would almost have the nomination handed to him. Why should he express any interest at this point? He’s toying with them…

I can’t believe we have people in the Republican party that believe in a legal mandate for private health insurance. If that isn’t communism then I don’t know what is.

Romney cannot be the candidate. Period No hyperbole.
Everyone that shares that view should help to de-rail Romney.

Let’s say Romney does become President. He won’t be conservative enough
to stop the socialists bureacrats that have infiltrated into the government.

We need a socialist buster to come in and and really change America.

  • chihank

Huckabee said it best about Romney:

“Mitt Romney is the candidate of change. He changes his mind every 5 weeks.”

    “RomneyCare will make you sick.”

  • Justin Spagnolo (standardcandle)

Look I don’t need hyperbole to tell another person the following:

    1. Mitt Romney does not have a proven record in successful government policy.
    2. I am concerned that Romney will take the same approach in the office of the President that he did as Governor of Massachusetts where he implemented a bi-partisan approach to socialized medicine through personal mandates.
    3. Mitt Romney does not address the issue of electability any further than the issue of credibility.

    etc….

my original ‘beef’ with your comment was the premise that ‘if’ Mitt becomes the GOP nominee in 2012, it means the end of the GOP, America, and civilized society… you acknowledged it was hyperbolic… but in the end… defended the sensational comment with… “it gets attention”… well yes… that and me dressing in drag saying I’m anti-Romney because I’m anti-Mormon and Mormons are bigots… would probably get more attention… and also generate sympathy for Romney… and like your comment… false pretense and notions create sympathy for the antithesis.

  • Justin Spagnolo (standardcandle)

    I’ll side with Romney.

  • claude5

    n/t

  • romeg

He’ll get my full, unqualified support and my vote and the votes of everyone I can so persuade.

Mitt Romney is one of the biggest Republican squishes around. He is a RINO in every sense of the word. It amazes me that people continue to trot him out for the Republican nomination.

His chances of beating Obama would be very slim. The ramming through of ObamaCare is what helped defeat the Dems in November and will be a major issue in 2012. This is an issue that is problematic for Romney, given that he signed into law Romneycare.

What baffles me the most is how is Romney fooling everyone. Who the hell changes their opinion on abortion when they are 60 something years old? Who changes their opinion on gun control that late? I mean seriously, does anyone actually buy this crap.

Mitt Romney is a Massachusetts moderate who’s is a robot, so fake and willing to alter himself and his policies to whatever means necessary as long as the political calculation is a net positive. At least Obama actually believes in his left wing fringe ideology, I don’t even know what Romney is passionate about. What issues he wouldn’t compromise or flip on.
