The Importance of Saying Thank You

I’m putting all of these names on the front page.

We ask members of congress to stand for their convictions and, when they do, they are often berated and attacked by their own side.

In the past 24 hours there have been numerous stories planted by House Republican leaders attacking their conservative colleagues and spinning blame onto them for voting against the three week continuing resolution.

One article says they only did it because they are running for higher office and have to suck up to the base.

Another says they did it because they lack bold vision.

Another says the conservatives are undermining the fight for actual spending cuts (!!!) and somehow, somehow, conservatives will now be stuck with a worse deal.

The blame game by a Republican leadership that sprinkles toilet water behind their ears before flushing because they love the smell of their own B.S. knows no bounds.

But fifty-four House Republicans were willing to take a bullet from their leadership and stand up for their principles.

We ask a lot. It is important to remember to say thank you.

Below are the 54 Republicans who voted no. Call them at 202-224-3121 and make sure they know you appreciate their stand. Right now, they are only hearing a lot of yelling from their leadership.

I used to think of Johnson as a squishy finger in the wind guy, and he has a professed reach-across-the-aisle mentality.

However, he’s been solid as a rock since TARP, even casting the only R vote against the Republican Obamacare-lite plan last year.

I sort of hope he runs for Senate, except I’d be losing a solid rep.

I noticed that my rep (R) John Mica of Florida is not on the list.. He was also FOR the Florida “High Speed Rail” 2 billion dollars for Florida which would happen to run thru his district and that Gov Scott refused….

I votred for him this year but I am having serious second thougts for 2012.

If Boehner and friends want to blame others for their own short comings, more power to them. Boehner never met a socialist he didn’t like. He would rather play “Patty Cake” with them than do the people’s business. I sure hope the people of Ohio can find a good and decent candidate to primary Boehner. He is not good for Ohio and sure isn’t very good for America either. What a disappointment. So is Cantor. Too much of the elite coming out in them. It ain’t a Country Club guys, it’s the people’s business you are supposed to be taking care of. What happened to you pledge to de-fund Obamacare? Country Club party get in the way?

Where is your name, Gregg Harper (Mississippi)????????

  • runner12

( Sullivan-OK ) that voted against it. He is not my representative, but I thanked him anyway. My representative voted FOR it ( the squish). I also threw in that I hoped he would encourage others from my state to follow his lead.

(Ironically, Sullivan is not the most conservative from my state. But hey, anyone can change and I applaud him for it!).

I keep hoping that Rep. Tom Price (GA) was inadvertently left off the list. Please, someone… tell me it’s a typo!

Boehner went to bat to get some of these freshmen elected, putting the full resources of the ORP at their disposal. Now it’s payback time. There were a lot of us who were concerned that they would not be independent voices, but would be beholden to the party bosses and unfortunately, it’s becoming clear we were right.

I’m grateful for the small, truly conservative block of Jordan, Schmidt, and Chabot, who are willing to put the good of the country before the party. Jim Jordan is quickly emerging as a conservative mover and shaker in the House.

“they are often berated and attacked by their own side.”

The cognitive dissonance it takes for you – of all people – to gripe about friendly fire is astounding. You want to hound and harass our own guys even as they piecemeal give us what we want, fine. But please don’t play the wilting violet when they get a little tired of it.

  • eddiethegeek

I’ve called each of the freshmen that I supported last year financially, to either thank them for their “No” vote yesterday or to chastise them for their “yes” vote. I worked hard for my freshman Representative, and am sorely disappointed that she isn’t showing more courage now that she’s in Washington. The 87 rookies have the power to force the leadership to grow some ‘nads, if only they’ll use it.

Kudo’s to Mick Mulvaney and Dan Benishek, whom I called today.

But I would sure appreciate it if Bobby Schilling, Adam Kinzinger, Mike Kelly and Ann Marie Buerkle returned the paltry donations I made to them.

  • kevhead62

I’ve called his office already, and it’s great to finally have someone in our district who will do the right thing.

  • cari

He’s a physician, like Price, and I spoke to him in person in January. He’s extremely alarmed at the rate at which ObamaCare is being implemented. He’s the one that blew the whistle on all the office space being rented in Bethesda, Maryland, for ObamaCare bureaucrats. Burgess is one of the good guys. I’m hoping, perhaps in vanity, that there is an intelligent reason for this that we just don’t know yet.

There are other good guys not on this list. Like Jeb Hensarling (TX). I wrote his local office and asked them kindly to explain his strategy behind his vote. If the base is confused, that can’t be a good thing.

From NE have no spine and I’ve contacted mine….

He stated the congressman’s concern for not wanting a shut down was based on military operations that would be jeopardized. Now I have not read anything about that here on RedState, and I have not watched any “news” or visited any other websites in a couple of days. I would be interested in any commentary on the subject.

If Lankford (a heretofore worthwhile freshman) is now just pandering along with leadership, it is a sad day indeed.

I wouldn’t trust Sullivan to be a changed man; rather he probably just saw an opportunity to look good back home.

  • runner12

candidate in his election :) . But whatever the reason, he voted no. In my book, that deserves a thank you.

  • runner12

disapointed in him. As to military operations being jeopardized, I am very skeptical of that claim. I have heard nothing of the sort from anyone. In fact, every credible source I have heard has said it would NOT put any military in jeopardy. I think Rep.Lankford was sold a bill of goods by the establishment and he bought it hook, line, and sinker.

FYI, there were concerns in Lankford’s primary as to whether or not he would stand up to the establishment. Although he ran as anti-establishment, he was the one in the race who had the most establishment endorsements (Huckabee and J.C. Watts). This concern is one of the reasons I did not vote for him in the primary. But I could be wrong about him. Maybe this will be his only false step. Time will tell.
