Barack Obama: Out of touch with large families

This really is amazing. At a townhall about gas prices, a parent of ten expressed concern about high gas prices and the impact it has on the family budget.

Obama’s response? He tells the parent to sell his van that holds his ten kids and get a hybrid car van.

I’m more annoyed by the disdain his face showed when he repeated “Ten kids!”, by his recgnition, finally, that we need more domestic production, or by his regurgitation of the “2% of reserves, 25% of consumption” mantra.

He says if we doubled oil production, we’d still be short by a factor of five.

That’s because he doesn’t know squat about his subject — he’s strictly shooting from the hip.

If we doubled oil production, we’d go from 5.5 to 11 million barrels a day. We use 19 million barrels. Imports would go from 13.5 million to 8 million barrels a day — well beyond Obama’s goal of reducing imports by a third by 2025.

The 2% of reserves/25% of production meme is exactly that. Obama has confused “reserves” with “production”. There are reasons why 2% of reserves is a meaningless statistic. But the overriding fact is that the U.S. is still the #3 producer in the world.

This is amateur hour, man, and it’s killing me.

Imagine the liberal outrage if some femi-nazi told President Bush or a President Palin that she’s worried about Planned Parenthood losing funding and would no place to go to get her umpteenth free abortion. The President then responds: “How about just keeping your $^*&ing legs closed?”

. . .there are too many people in the world. This is (really) a pillar of their thinking.

  • aaronb1979

I think Erick is right… this is more about the arrogance of the President and how out-of-touch he is with what is really going on in the world.

It is apparent that Obama’s main objective is to push for his clean air agenda at any cost. To him, the cost seems minimal, but to a man who is supporting a family of 10 children, that money is hard to come by. If the man can barely afford gas prices, how is he supposed to afford a brand new hybrid vehicle capable of transporting his family? Obama just does not get it.

  • clowngirl

that and how stunning a contrast there is between how Obama laughed off this father’s concerns and how outraged he was about high gas prices when Bush was still President.

Barack Obama: out of touch with reality…

  • http://pocketchangeproductions.net/ anotherindyfilmguy

That being a self centered narcissistic sociopath with no feelings for anyone but his own selfish person.

Just guessing on that last part, he probably cares about the price of arugula…

to the office of the President, does this go sound slightly drunk or high on drugs? Go back and watch and listen closely. If you’re in a bar and hear this kind of talk, you’d label it tipsy. Something is going on here.

His hybrid response notwithstanding, he wants to cut the child tax credit, supports PP, he’s supported “gradually” increasing gas prices which in turn creates an inflation and cost of living burden

I’ve tried not to let hatred for this man consume me. It’s gotten to the point where his visage alone causes a visceral reaction in me. There is nothing he can say or do that I will ever believe or trust or respect. I will never wish him well, in any endeavor. He might as well be the devil to me. My opinion of Satan is no worse, and that’s the God’s honest truth.

I couldn’t watch beyond the “10 kids?!!” dismissal. That man is a national disgrace.

  • dog_nut

ask him to name a manufacturer that builds a full size hybrid van. No such thing.

…who infamously said he wouldn’t want either of his daughters to be PUNISHED WITH A BABY…

  • z06gal

That is one of the funniest things I have ever read. In other news, this fraud masquerading as our Prez loses more credibility every time he opens his mouth. I still cannot believe that people actually voted for this idiot

  • http://westforwestwing2012.com heartlander

Obama’s chief patron is George Soros, who has what can only be called an obsession with population reduction. Soros believes the human population should be reduced by a considerable percentage. He will do just about anything to achieve that. He would never have backed Obama if Obama were not on board with that agenda.

. . .can be seen as an inevitable result of one who views the world as in a state of chaos, and his duty as one to set it right.

He’s also quite mad, of course.

Erickson wrote hybrid “car”! Obama said hybrid “van”! Media Matters caught RedState telling a lie! Erickson “makes up quote”!!

Doesn’t Media Matters have anything better to do?

    The ridiculous MM story:

CNN’s Erickson Makes Up Quote To Call Obama “Out Of Touch With Large Families”
April 07, 2011 9:47 pm ET by Adam Shah
In a post on his RedState.com blog titled, “Barack Obama: Out of touch with large families,” CNN contributor Erick Erickson falsely claims that Obama told a parent of ten kids who was concerned about high gas prices “to sell his van that holds his ten kids and get a hybrid car.” Erickson calls Obama’s comment “amazing.”

In fact, in the video Erickson himself posted, during banter with the parent, Obama said, “You definitely need a hybrid van [emphasis added],” not a “hybrid car.”

  • http://www.sunshinestatesarah.com sunshinestatesarah

That quote of Obama’s is still on my top ten list of reasons why I cannot stand him.

Ask any parent who has adopted a baby whether their child is a “mistake” or an “inconvenience.” Or, better yet, ask someone who was put up for adoption whether they feel like they are “punishing” anyone by daring to live and breathe.

  • jackhammer

says something like, “wow, that is great, you’ve got a tougher job than me” or something to that effect…..but no, not this guy….

you know he is thinking something along the lines of…..”aren’t there planned parenthood branches all around this neighbourhood?”

The left has a horrible disdain for anything beyond a reasonable 2 kids…well because 2 kids out of your first marriage can handle a divorce pretty well, and will integrate well into the patchwork family that is modern day liberalism….

  • Doc Holliday

I could only last a minute or so. Could he be more insulting, could he demean workers more? I figure most of these people are union and support the jagoff, and he talks to them like they are naughty kids.

I would say more but I might get into trouble.

  • gwalt

What is so amazing about it is all the people who think say he is smart/eloquent/master communicator. He puts the Walmartians above his rhetoric. I seriously find it harder and harder to even wave to my Obama-loving neighbor. I can’t help but think of what goes through his head each moment. If he is this delusional about Obama, what else is rattling through his brain?

  • Ausonius

One of the Greatest Lies Today: “MAObama is a great speaker!”

Does anyone really listen to him??? Sorry, but as someone who knows musical theory, linguistics, rhetoric, and several modern and classical languages, I can attest that such a claim is just stupid, and I have heard so-called Conservatives repeat it…why? Not to seem racist?

    Idiots!

If they will use his own words against him, which is one of the most effective ways to show an opponent’s weaknesses, this should be a great campaign ad.

And of course you would list the more sober (?!) and the more logical and the more caring responses seen above!

But the Republicans/McCain choked in 2008 and did hardly anything by throwing BIG BRObama’s own words back in his face.

  • gwalt

I have no idea why anyone would want to spend that much time with Yogi Bear (aka Nobama).

I see he is going away on vacation. On OUR plane. With OUR money. We need to get a few billboards up “thanking” Obama for $4 a gallon gas and hang this around his neck. Every day. Preferably in African American neighborhoods next to gas stations.

should never stray from his precious teleprompter and remarks written for him. Every time he speaks off the cuff he screws up like this. First, his comments on demand are wrong….demand is down and inventories are up. Second, he makes no reference to the falling dollar that causes rises in all commodities. So he should be blaming Bernanke, not the guy with 10 kids. But he never will because all he knows is the talking points and perpetual campaigning, a.k.a. lying.

Obama gives a speech at a wind power generating company headquartered in Spain. Didn’t Spain pump money into wind power only to almost bankrupt the country?

Also what do you do about high energy prices which turns into elavated food prices due to higher transportation costs. What do you do for poor now Bozobama?

When youi travel the West, you see over and over again, Air Force and Army and Navy and Marine reserve oil fields. Those are not supposed to be dedicated to gasoline for civilian commuting or heating oil for NYC apartments.

I suppose he figures the military won’t need those reserves, as he expects to exterminate a lot of them while they fight without pay, under his new view of the military as nonessential staff.

In the shale oil deposits, we have more oil than Saudi Arabia, and it will be tapped and will be produced, but not by this gang of thieves and liars.

I feel as someone noted on another diary. I just hate him, and he has also affected my entire construct regarding race. When I see adult blacks, unfortunately, I almost automatically think:Obama supporters. And my reptilian brain flares up.

The utter contempt for the private sector and the middle class is revolting. Heck, the guys not even that bright, his ignorance is becoming a threat to our country.

In his case, I would say both.

Ref. comments about Soros earlier in the thread –
I hate to say it, but McCain’s gotten lots of money from Soros, too. (via McCain’s “Reform Institute”)
I don’t want to get TOO paranoid — but I do wonder sometimes if BOTH candidates were compromised by Soros — Obama is his man, obviously, but McCain didn’t put up much of a fight.
There’s no doubt in my mind that the Democrat/Media Complex picked McCain as the candidate. I saw it happen. I was working for one of the other candidates, and at a certain point, almost overnight, the whole thing went to McCain — very suddenly. It was decided by the Powers That Be in Big Media.

How is this guy going to afford it in this economy?
Why do we want people to junk their cars? isn’t that environmentally unfriendly/

I like how Obama makes an assumption about the size of this guy’s family. Very telling. in fact it is more telling to me than that stupid face he makes. That face is the one that kids make in junior high when they are trying to make fun of some poor kid in the class and can’t come up with a decent jab or response.

Hybrid technology is still pretty new. A hybrid van would have an expensive powerful battery. I am not sure I would want my 10 precious darlings in something so new and powerful. I worry about the safety of new technology, but then I am not as smart as Obama.

  • msctex

Probably from both perspectives, if there is enough fuel in the fire.

You don’t see a lot of cheerful, power-hungry people. And Soros wants the kind of power we end up fighting World Wars to undo, once achieved. He won’t get it, of course; Progressivism is in its death throes. As always, achieving influence has served as their undoing.
