I Stand With Michele Bachmann

Just the other day I said the answer is “no” to the question “should the House GOP replace John Boehner.” The more we’ve found out about that budget deal, the more I think I might be wrong. Maybe we need Speaker Bachmann instead.

On Friday, Robert Costa at National Review, got some insider dirt on the House GOP meeting that happened behind closed doors without staff.

High-profile conservatives such as Rep. Louie Gohmert (R., Texas) and Rep. Steve King (R., Iowa) spoke, but the underlying topic of conservation was Rep. Michele Bachmann (R., Minn.), a potential presidential candidate, who was alluded to by a handful of members for her media-savvy opposition to the leadership, and for, along with others, stirring public divisions within the ranks. One longtime conservative grandee of the House told me that he has never seen the conference simmer in such a fashion; that things got icy quiet when King defended Bachmann and when various members boosted Boehner, all eyeing each other before reacting.

There is a reason Donal Trump is doing so well in Republican polling. It is the same reason Sarah Palin resonates so well with the base. It is the same reason Michele Bachmann resonates so well.

At a time when Republican leaders are trying to look “grown up” and “reasonable” in the eyes of the Washington Press Corps, Michele Bachmann is fighting the left.

Michele Bachmann is willing to pick a fight to replace Obamacare when John Boehner and Eric Cantor are willing to roll over. Bachmann is willing to pick a fight on the debt ceiling when the leadership is, even now, negotiating an increase in the debt ceiling while yet again selling out conservatives.

Right now it is a safe bet to say if you are on Michele Bachmann’s side in this fight you are what we call a conservative and if you are on John Boehner’s side . . . well this is a kid friendly site so I can’t go into that.

I stand with Michele Bachmann in this fight. You should too.

why the establishment types refuse to recognize that us annoying tea party types are the ones that put them in the majority in the first place.
Does the Tea Party even have anyone that can challenge Boehner and Cantor in a primary? Lee Terry here in NE-2 faced a tougher than expected challenge in a primary, and I would love to see them sweat it out so they can see the big picture.

  • TS Atomic

Boehner is the speaker. Even if he just suddenly quit (wishful thinking), what gives you any reason to believe the GOP would allow a replacement speaker not from the same mold / another Boehner?

  • fpete13527

Boehner and Cantor’s performance last week were disgraces to humanity.

We have had zero leadership and we critically need it.

Michelle has earned it and deserves it. My vote is for her.

  • davidf

I’ve dreamed of a Speaker Bachmann since it became clear that Republicans would take back the House in 2010. Even if her presidential bid is unsuccessful, it will raise her profile and improve her chances of becoming Speaker later.

  • gracie

and Tea Partiers from the beginning! She has never wavered. Early on she encouraged us to come to DC and get into the House and demand to speak with our Reps. And no I have no idea how they can dismiss us!

That sickly smile on Boehner’s face saying “he won” was disgusting. Won what?

Standing with Bachmann! How do we get rid of him??

  • akafroman

Mike Pence is establishment enough (was the chairman of the House Republican Conference), yet still as tea party as Michele Bachmann. If Bachmann wasn’t able to gain any traction in her last leadership attempt, I don’t think she could skip to speaker. Although yes, it would be awesome.

  • bs61

I’m praying that somebody primaries Boehner and Cantor!

  • gazill

(pardon the symbolic language), and have since I have first heard her speak (on Levin’s show, I believe). Plus, Erick, when are you running national?

She does stand for my principles. I’m not so sure the benefit of her running for president. Maybe it is getting what we stand for more face/airtime.

The downside is that we don’t need another training wheel president. We need an someone who has run something and has made decisions. I believe people like Michelle and Sara can do the cause better by not running. They need more seasoning (like what Jindal, Walker, Christie) are all doing…IMHO

  • aesthete

if he doesn’t run for IN Gov. I like Bachmann, but I don’t think she works as a Speaker of the House.

  • davidf

…and I look forward to casting my vote for President Palin in 2012.

  • alreadyexists

Immediately after the atrocious budget compromise was passed, Boehner left town and headed for Iraq to hide out and avoid the heat that was sure to follow. This clearly indicates that he knew what a terrible piece of legislation it was and he had no intention of sticking around to face the music. The man has no integrity whatsoever and is utterly incapable of leadership. But worse than that, the majority of the Republican caucus in the House is similarly without gonads or brains. As this is supposed to the team that wants us to believe that they are for less government spending. The only silver lining to this sorry state of affairs is that the fiscal Titanic will soon smash into the debt iceberg and put us all out of our misery.

  • rightwingmom52

so I’m in 100%. She restores my faith in women, and it would be great for young women in our country to see a role model who embodies everything a woman should be as opposed to the Pelosi, Code Pink, NOW types.

  • jeffreywturner

Its quite ironic that the Republican in Congress with the most cajones just happens to be a female.

I support Michele Bachmann. If for no other reason than to piss off the media and see their heads explode I support her.

My philosophy is that you can tell a lot about people by their friends and enemies. As much as the media hates Bachmann, she MUST be awesome.

  • audax

Go Michelle, love how you and Sarah rub that lip stick off the pigs!

  • audax
  • azaeroprof

I stand with Michele, too! Boehner is starting to look like more of a fraud every day. It’s probably just as simple as the old axiom about “power corrupts”. They sell their souls to move up “the ladder” into leadership positions.

Thank God for Michele and Sarah. Without them, I’m afraid there would be no b*lls at all in the GOP!

  • gt80

How refreshing is it to read a conservative publication/blog that doesn’t go out of it’s way to look good to the Repbulican Establishment (see NRO and “big government” Fred Barnes at the Weekly Standard).

Thank you, thank you, thank you Erick!

I too stand with Michele Bachmann.

  • Doc Holliday

I stand with Michelle, but we don’t have much time for a civil war. If she wants the Speakership and she has support, then let’s do it right now. I have a feeling she is focused on an office a bit to the West of the Capitol Building.

  • conservative_dan

in their next primaries and Michelle Bachman and Paul Ryan should be voted into postions of power. THEN we’d see some action!

  • grumpy_old_soldier

    Let’s rumble!!

  • kaptkane

RINO at best. It’s time for him to go also.
(imho) there’s not very many of them that do not need to go at this point. Michelle Bachman, Paul Ryan and maybe Rand Paul can stay. The rest??? Out!!!!!

  • mspector

She has been preeminent among those who have stood strong so far and who show the gumption to carry the battle forward on the debt ceiling and other critical issues. I don’t know who I want to see on the 2012 ticket as a “broadener”, but I do believe this lady will define the election.

  • edintexas

Some people believe that those entertainers who are 35 and have their first hit are really lucky “overnight sensations” too.

It is hard to argue with success, and the MSM was certainly successful in portraying Palin as inexperienced.

we don’t have time for a civil war. Obamas malicious speech last week was the first of his 2012 campaign. It had nothing to do with the budget. He spent most of his time slamming the Ryan Plan instead of suggesting an alternative. Almost a repeat of ANY 2008 campaign speech. This is why we don’t have time for an internal fight. Boehner hopefully will be primaried in his home state. Bachman may or amy not have a shot at speaker depending on how many of the lifers are re-elected. At this time we need an attack dog like Trump to keep the heat on Obama while an actual VIABLE candidate emerges. Infighting will only kill the chances of running this socialist out of DC. The country cannot take 4 more years of this irresponsible non-leadership. Better get together or we’ll have anther McCain-Palin ticket that has NO CHANCE!

I believe her time as the gov. was an important first step and would bring more to the table the BO did. For me, at this time, it wouldn’t be enough to pull the lever in a primary.

It has to be a combo of qualifications, experience, my values and the ability to win. Right now, I see Huck as the front runner…(eventhough he wasn’t my first choice in ’08)… IMO

  • cincinnatus25

I agree with your statements on Boehner, and it may well be that time has passed on his effectiveness…I also agree that Bachman and Trump are popular because they are outspoken and showing that they are willing to fight. BUT both Trump and Bachmann have a lot of issues that I would NEVER support being the face of our movement. Why do we have to “support Bachmann” when we have Jim Jordan and Mike Pence on our side, or Paul Ryan, and the list goes on. You are telling me that out of 241 Republicans, Michele Bachmann is the best, brightest, and smartest voice to put out there? Not only do I disagree, I vehemently disagree. Just because someone can give a rousing speech and loves Tea Parties does not a good leader make. just as someone who gives a rousing speech and loves unions does not a good President make.

  • cestmoi312

There are 3 kinds of people in this world.

    1) Those that make things happen

    2) Those that watch things happen

    3) and, Those that wonder what happened

    Or, said another way.

    1) Michele Bachman

    2) Boehner and Cantor

    3) and, The rest of the Republicians

  • http://www.scragged.com petrarch

The Speaker of the House is elected by a majority of the House, not merely a majority of the majority party, is it not?

If the conservatives push Bachmann, there are more than enough RINOs to be a majority when combined with all the Dems. And do you seriously think they’re above doing that, so as to avoid having Speaker Bachmann?

  • ihateliberals

that their choice was going to be Boehner. I knew that it was a mistake. Then time after time he proved me right. Crying, behind closed door deals and just generally being a RINO. I curse Ohio for sending him back to congress. Boehneer is another perfect example of why congressional elections are no longer just local issues. he has done his district some good and that is why they keep sending him back. What we have to start doing though is looking at the National picture and what these guys are doing to the rest of the country. McCain, Chamblis, Cantor, Murkowski and Snow are jsut a few examples of Republicans that should not have been sent back to Washington. Michele Backman would make a wonderful Speaker and i thinkit is time for the House to review their mistake with Boehner and fix the problem. Otherwise the Party is in deep trouble. i see a split on the horizon. A split of the Party would be disastrous now. People like Boehner are driving the Tea Partiers to do just that.

  • 2warabnvet

I wouldn’t really define Boehner as a RINO; he and his ilk are more likely PWOPs (Politicians Without Principles).

  • ihateliberals

The RINO’s in the party will be it’s ultimate down fall. I just pray it doesn’t happen until after the 2012 elections. RINO’s are no better than Democrats. They are useless inthe Republican party. If they continue to do the things they are doing like Boehner making closed door deals that fall apart, the Tea Party will split and that will be a sure install of Obama for another four years at least and maybe longer if the split also loses the House back to the Democrats. There are plenty of people that could do the speakers job but installing another RINO wuld not help the situation at all.

  • controse

Is the Speaker chosen by members of the House for two years or at the beginning of each calendar year?

Can he/she be replaced as Speaker during the legislative session for cause (as in being a spineless weasel)?

  • flagser

I am a donor. Send a message. You can afford five bucks just to be counted on her list. She would rather have $25, but $5 will add your name to her donor roles.

Not NEARLY conservative enough for me. From what I’ve read, he fails miserably on illegal immigration and isn’t fiscally conservative, either.

  • medicineman

I’d love Allen Keyes, Col. West or even Newt. in the Whitehouse myself, but not really sure if the stars are quite lining up.

I’d love to get a social and fiscal candidate that has the credentials/experience ( that I can intellectually feel comfortable with), but honestly, there isn’t one…IMO. I sure don’t want another McCain, but realize there isn’t a perfect candidate (at least yet) for me… Maybe a light bulb will turn on for me during the primaries…

  • billybaa

Boehner is in Iraq right now surendering the USA to the Enemy while he is crying

  • grandpa6

Michelle Bachmann is the real deal. John Boehner has been in DC too long he is part of the good old boy network and needs to be replaced. He may need to be replaced as a congressman for a more conservative person who will fight for our country and not roll over for the progressives.

  • MF

Newt will get ripped to shreds by the media, but worse, many conservatives will blanch at him as well, depressing the base (which is the last thing we need). I’m not sold on Newt on the illegal immigration issue, either. He still strikes me as far too mainstream.

Keyes would be great, but doesn’t have the name recognition.

West would be fantastic, but he’s not ripe for the picking yet. He could be a great VP nomination for someone. If not that, his time to shine would be 2016, or 2020 if we get a Repub. in 2012.

And West is not the VP pick, he NEEDS to be the RNC keynote speaker! He would knock it out of the park!

back when Ambassador Keyes squared off against Barack Obama but .. ever since then, Keyes seems to be .. off his game.

Good man, but .. not the same. It’s like something in that Senate race broke something inside Alan.

  • medicineman

I like Rubio also, but needs to ripen.

Again, there are many I like regarding ideals….but can they be an effectively govern as a conservative is what I struggle with…

  • kestrel

She and Steve King (and some others), in rallying opposition to the CRs and deceptive deal, are saving the Republican Party. The leadership can’t seem to grasp this fact. People such as Boeher, who are used to the old way things worked in Washington for so long — before we had an open Marxist and lawless man in the White House — these people do not seem to comprehend that we are facing the collapse of our currency and our society. And as Paul Ryan has said, the acceleration curve of the looming financial collapse is “vicious.” “Time is not on our side.”

  • runner12

I do not think that he is one. His problem lies in his loyalty to what has become a failed strategy. He is one of those ” take what you can get” kind of guys when the Dems run the WH and the Senate. For a while, many of the conservative House members gave him the benefit of the doubt and voted for the first few CR’s, hoping that eventually he would stand and dig in for a fight.

Unfortunately, that never happened and with each CR fewer conservative House members voted in favor of them. The last straw was the 38.5 billion dollar hoax (for which I even fell for).

Bottom line, the conservative House members and conservative Americans have lost faith in Boehner. Either he shifts tactics and embraces a Bachman-style strategy or he steps aside for someone else do it.

  • runner12

That would be “steps aside for someone else TO do it.”

  • etheilen

when I first heard her speak a few years ago at an Eagle Forum conference. It would be so incredibly awesome to have a principled conservative that one could trust! My favorites for President/2012 are Bachmann, Pence and King.

  • http://www.voteforteri2010.com teridavisnewman

I am firmly behind Bachmann and have been for a long time. Boehner hasn’t got the stones and Cantor is a sell-out. Allan West, Michele Bachmann, Jeff Fortenberry, (NE-1) Tom Price (GA-6) and a few more are the only ones with any kind of spine and I’m looking forward to working with them.

  • speotter

Anyone that shows the urgency and the no holds barred approach like Bachman is the kind of leader we need now. Procrastination and compromise are what lost the Republican majority in 2006 and will lose it again in 2012. The country cannot wait 2 more years, we need a drastic course correction now.

    Scott Peotter

  • Diogenes314

And Michelle Backstab wouldn’t be his replacement if he did.

  • gekster

    did you call her “backstab”.
    Just ciurious here.

  • Diogenes314

When a third of your team is leaking to the press they aren’t going to support you. The freshman squishes, I get. They need to appease their constituents, supporting the leadership in public while they are negotiating might have cost them.

MB’s decision to trash the leadership was pure politics though. No, she isn’t going to be Speaker, President or anything else. No loyalty to anyone but her pollster.

  • gekster

Maybe I just ain’t seeing it.
    Could you elaborate.

  • gekster
  • gekster

if you would elaborate on your Michele Backstab comment.
Or did you just throw a rock in the water to watch the ripples.

  • gekster

    Why the dodge?

  • Diogenes314

    Really?

Okay, you have your team in negotiations, attempting to get the best deal possible. Let’s say you don’t think they are going far enough (with a weak hand at that). Do you…

    A) Strenuously push them in private while supporting them in public.
    B) Panic because you think being seen as supporting them at all will cost you politically or
    C) Trash them at every chance in the delusional hope that this will make you seem ‘presidential’ to a select subset of clueless voters.

    And yes, it’s rhetorical.

  • gekster

Not picken, just want to see what you see.
    edjumakation thingy, ya know.

  • Diogenes314

I don’t have a clue to what you said.

  • gekster

Indicating you believe she stabs people in the back.
I’m asking why, and asking for links to back up why you believe that.
If you don’t want to answer, just say so.
Or, as I now suspect, you were just throwing a bomb.
Basically, is it just your opinion, or a fact.

  • Diogenes314

    myself:

  • gekster

    So ya got a link?

  • http://slcliberty.blogivists.com randy streu

We GET the claim you’re making, that she trashes GOP leadership every chance she gets.

What he’s asking for, very reasonably, all things considered, is proof of your claim. Is there an article? A video? Do you have a LINK, anywhere, of Michelle Bachmann, in her own words, doing what you claim she’s doing?

We don’t take things at face value around here. I could stand up and say… pretty much anything. It doesn’t make it true. Facts, and the evidence to back them up, makes the world go ’round.

It’s not a challenge that’s being made, but a reasonable request for citation. Gekster hasn’t HEARD of Michelle Bachmann backstabbing the GOP, or the GOP leadership, and you claim she has. If this is the case, obviously, this will help to inform our opinions of who Bachmann is as a person, AND help us decide FOR OURSELVES whether she’s leadership material.

RedState is, often, a great place to become more informed on issues and candidates. In that spirit, if you have information that you’re using to inform your opinion, it seems only reasonable to post a link TO that information.
