EDITOR OF REDSTATE

Erickson & Trump. One on One.

Yes, it is true. On Tuesday, I will be going one on one with Donald Trump in his office in New York.

He has agreed to sit down and have an unfiltered conversation with no topic off limits. Thus I will ask him those questions many of you have wanted to ask him and flesh out why he thinks he is a conservative, why he might run, etc.

You can watch the interview live and for free. But you must register by going here.

This will be interesting. Very, very interesting. Rest assured I’ll be watching

  • rabidf16

since he’s supported mostly Democrats in the past, and has expressed some pretty Democratic views as well, did he ever consider a run against Obama as a Democrat, in the Democrat Primary?

  • powertothepeople

is not whether or not he runs or his past behavior, but if he runs, will he take his beating like a man and forgo an independent run. This is one election where a victory over Obama is almost a sure thing. But an independent run by anyone would be the fastest way to derail that victory. And my belief is that Trump is so arrogant and conceited that he will run as an independent when and if he loses in the republican primary just to stroke his ego and to be able to say later he made some point.

  • tankertodd

    Good get.

  • sandbun

You’re going to give him more oxygen that otherwise would be given to real candidates. Great.

Well at least it’s not yet another Huntsman post.

I don’t thinkTrump will win the nomination. I do think Trump has done some good for Republicans by going after Obama. I didn’t like the Birther stuff, but there is plenty to go after Obama about, and I am all for Trump doing it.

I also think it is a nice move for Trump to bring in Erick. I don’t know if I’ll be watching or listening, but I do look forward to heairng about it.

I think i’d rather hear about Trump than more Palin and Daniels fights among the Red State faithful.

  • blogan2

Ask him what he plans to do if he doesn’t get the nomination? Will he help the Republican nominee? Will he continue to speak out against Obama?

Also, ask him if another season of “Apprentice” has been recorded and if it’s slated to be running in the fall. Does anyone know when “equal time” becomes an issue?

Congrats on getting the interview. But a little puzzled. Please let us know what the goals of the interview will be?

One big question is Trumps willingness to run independent if he does not get the R nomination. I believe he has already stated this as on April 12, “probably yes”.

I agree that Trump has the type of style a candidate needs (taking media, Obama/left on directly etc…) but he was a birther of the highest order that would be banned on the spot on RS. He also has said he would “probably” run independent if he didn’t get the R nom that would get banned at RS for promoting 3rd parties.

I’ll probably listen in as he is interesting interview but how can he be trustworthy and why should he get RS exposure?

What is the purpose of the interview?

Talking to a birther as if he’s a serious candidate is just silly. In fact I’d say it’s almost treasonous. For him to be working for RedState, an organization dedicated to electing true conservatives and which tries to destroy silly conspiracy theories like birtherism, while at the same time using the platform RedState gives Erick to give Trump a platform to spew his nonsense with an interview that is clearly meant to boost Erick’s status as someone who can get interviews with important people.

No, not really, just having some fun.

whether Trump or other birther spouting.

I’m very interested to hear the interview. What I’m hoping to understand, is the thought process that Trump went through to become a conservative. I am indeed willing to accept that he is truly conservative, but only if his rationale is both sincere and profound.

Trump has succeeded in three things, none of which are helpful. First, he has gotten a huge amount of publicity (which I believe is what he was after all along). Second, he has succeeded in making all the Republican candidates look weak, by virtue of his high ranking in several polls. Third, he has made Republican voters look like ignorant fools by pushing the birther issue. Trump is nothing but a egomaniac with lots of money (and Lord knows they are dangerous) and the sooner he goes away the better we all are.

  • lakecrazy

I have the same questions, plus one. Why did you stop asking about his school records? Loans, grants, how/why he was admitted. Status.

  • nunleigh

he is definitely a Democratic plant. This is the “Tea Party Candidate” third party ploy the Democrats ARE using to suck votes away from Republican candidates. Please ask him about his plans, and confront him agressively with his original comments stating he would run as an independent. First he said he could win as an Independent, and then after the backlash, he said he would not do it. Dishonest?

  • renny

    positions.

And tell him no real candidate can blast his opponent(s) in f-word terms and remain viable.

If he’s a serious candidate, he be addressed seriously, but he
should not behave like a cranky two year old.

I would like to hear Trump’s response to the fact that the Republicans have abandoned our founders & Lincoln republicanism and the American Economic School for Richard Nixon’s and Milton Friedman’s neo-liberal/free trade ideology……

Most republicans think Free Trade is very American & a Republican cause but….

Influential economist, Milton Friedman, proposed an economic model based on principles that are practically contrary to those of Keynes – a model that forms the base of what is now known as neoliberalism.

Friedman proposed that the State should almost never intervene in the national economy – which is to say that the control of the economy would be in the hands of private capital and not in the hands of the State. It criticized national governments for its enormous and inefficient bureaucracies that impeded the optimal functioning of the market. As advisor to US Presidents Richard Nixon and Ronald Reagan, Milton Friedman came to have a decisive influence over the structuring of the global economy……..

In pro-Lincoln newspapers, the phrase ?free trade? was invoked as the equivalent of industrial suicide. HELLLOOOO!

Why fire on Ft. Sumter? It was a customs house, and when the North attempted to strengthen it, the South knew that its purpose was to collect taxes, as newspapers and politicians said at the time.

To gain an understanding of the Southern mission, look no further than the Confederate Constitution.

It is a duplicate of the original Constitution, with several improvements.

In the Confederate Constitution is a clause that has no parallel in the U.S. Constitution. It affirms strong support for free trade and opposition to protectionism: “but no bounties shall be granted from the Treasury; nor shall any duties or taxes on importation from foreign nations be laid to promote or foster any branch of industry.”……….

What was his incentive, his payment, his inducement to be a front man for Obama? What was the carrot dangled before him that made him begin this nonsensical waste of time? What possessed him to put himself in the spotlight, again, but this time in such a way that would make his opponent look good, appear to be reasonable, logical, calm and mature? In short, find out, if you can, what it took for him to work for Obama? Is he even aware that he is working for Obama? That might be the bigger question. I’d really like to know. Thanks – and good luck!

May 30, 1988?The Reagan Record On Trade:?Rhetoric Vs. Reality THE CATO INSTITUTE

The Reagan administration has failed to promote free trade. Ronald Reagan by his actions has become the most protectionist president since Herbert Hoover, the heavyweight champion of protectionists.

How does interviewing Trump square with the 3 important virtues written about in another diary?

Trump was a birther of the highest order.
Trump openly threatened running for a 3rd party.
Trump openly praised the left and donated.

Hey, I like things that Trump says but he is out for himself and has zero loyalty to anything. I hope our candidate adopts Trumps confrontational style because Obama will fold like a cheap suit.

How does doing this interview jive with loyalty to conservatism?

How does doing this interview honor real conservatism?

Does this interview have anything to do with conservatism or is it just a media coup? I think a disclosure is in order.

  • freemanja1991

He has donated money to many dems in the past. Many Faithful GOPers have misgivings about this. To repent for his past donations, and give us a solid footing going into 2012, would he be willing to pay off the RNC, RNCC, RNSC, respective debts? And swear off future donations to Dems.

  • johnthebaptistmoore

If Trump does, officially, run for ’12 President as a Republican and then loses in the ’12 GOP Primary, then, will Trump fully support and vote for the final ’12 GOP pick for President, vote for a third party candidate or Independent candidate for ’12 President, not vote for President in the ’12 general election, or run as an Independent candidate for ’12 President, instead? Ask him this, please, and thank you.

Taking Iraq’s oil was a bad move that liberals will never let go of. If Trump walks it back or spins it to mean he’ll negotiate a fair deal to recover the costs of Iraq’s freedom from Saddam then he’ll gain traction. Or drop it and say it was more of a metaphor, regardless a detailed answer is required. I never saw a good explanation of what Trump meant with “take the oil”. The media failed to ask the right questions.

Regardless, taking the oil could lead us into WWIII because Iraq would fight us diplomatically then in combat (yes they’d lose). NATO could expel the USA and we’d see UN sanctions, leading to trade sanctions leading to NATO countries possibly siding with Iraq to back us off followed by threats of war and so on. If Trump won and persisted we could see a conflict in Iraq. Besides where would we get the money? China could stall on new loans in an effort to negotiate oil contracts with Iraq.

More likely Trump would face impeachment if Dems could garner the votes to prevent an insurrection in Iraq. They could block funds but the “I” word is too popular and the liberal mantra is “never let a good opportunity go to waste” .
