John Weaver Needs a New Playbook

John Weaver really needs a new playbook.

In 1999-2000, newspaper headlines were filled with the titilating details of how “Democrats Fear a McCain Nomination.” In fact, one CNN report in early February of 2000, noted Democrats were worried because “conservative Democrats and Independents are voting for John McCain because they believe that he is the perfect person to replace Bill Clinton in the White House.”

This is John Weaver’s standard play book. Weaver was John McCain’s advisor and is now Jon Huntsman’s advisor.

Just like clockwork, Democrats fear Jon Huntsman.

Time for a new playbook, John.

I’m no fan of Weaver, but how I wish McCain had won in 2000 instead of Bush. He’s have rolled over Gore in the general and wouldn’t have busted the damn budget like Bush/Delay. And he knew more about fighting wars, too – what a waste of a GOP majority Bush Jr. was.
But Huntsman – bleah! I’m going for T-Paw – a real conservative who the dems apparently are really scared of.

I’m also no fan of McCain, but I really have zero doubt that McCain would have destroyed Al Gore in 2000 instead of losing the popular vote and winning Florida by a handful of votes. Despite my dislike of the man, I think he would have also made a much better President than Bush, and the Republican Party wouldn’t have been left in tatters like it was after 2008.

Regarding Huntsman, I just don’t buy that Democrats are scared of him. His claim to fame is basically being a billionaire trust-fund baby. I also think it would be incredibly difficult for Huntsman to make a case against Obama when he was part of his administration.

Huntsman might have an outside shot at winning Nevada if the field is crowded, but it’s hard to imagine him cracking 5% in Iowa, NH, or SC. Michigan and Florida were also early in 2008, I’m not sure if they are set in stone for next year or not but again, what is his constituency in either state?

No one will win the nomination who only cracks the top three in one of the first six contests.

“smoothed the path and helped in filing the election paperwork for a useful idiot patsy named”

Now that’s some “plotting” of which I would more likely be convinced.
