Stop Goodwin Liu [Updated]

UPDATE: Goodwin Liu has been stopped for now. The Senate failed to stop the filibuster against Liu.

Thanks for your calls.

——————————————

Today the United States Senate will vote on cloture in the matter of Goodwin Liu. Sixty votes are needed. Call 202-224-3121 and ask for your Senator. Tell him to oppose Goodwin Liu.

Goodwin Liu is a true radical, in favor of using the courts to redistribute wealth and impose slave reparations, among other things. He’s so radical that even Rahm Emanuel was opposed to his nomination.

According to Harry Reid (D-NV), the Democrats need Goodwin Liu on the federal bench because “the court of appeals is where law is made, and we need the finest minds in the world for that.”

There are some Senate targets to focus on in getting them to oppose cloture.

They include Sens. Alexander, Brown, Chambliss, Collins, Graham, Isakson, Kirk, McCain, Murkowski, Snowe, and Thune.

Call 202-224-3121 and get your Senator to oppose cloture.

Fellow Text Box Addicts, today

CMaree (Diary) Thursday, May 19th at 9:45AM EDT (link)

you can, like this TB addict, fill the Senators’ “Contact Me” email text boxes with your thoughts on the cloture vote on the judicial appointment of Goodwin Liu. Let’s be brief, polite, but firm.

For you Red Clay RS text box typists, note that both of our esteemed GA Senators are on Eric’s list. Let’s roll!

now it's a "hide and watch" thing.

I called both Lamar Alexander AND Bob Corker and asked which way they were going to vote. of course “that hasn’t been released.” was the answer. They DID ask for my input though and I told them I didn’t want that man in the 9th circuit court, to vote no on cloture.

I will wait and see how they vote though. they’re both RHINO’S except on inconsequential matters. They tend to vote the Democrat way on those important votes that can torpedo conservatives in the long haul.
Like this vote and the one for the RI circuit court Judge appointee.

Pinch me! Alexander is voting no for cloture.

I couldn’t get the whole question out of my mouth before the answer came.

What about Corker?

Jim Tomasik (Diary) Thursday, May 19th at 11:36AM EDT (link)

His phone should be heating up about now. Or it will shortly.

After the second time I got someone to answer.

earlgrey (Diary) Thursday, May 19th at 11:45AM EDT (link)

They have not made a decision. The girl on the phone sounded like she was getting calls like mine, but was really courteous (maybe too courteous as in we thanks for the call but no luck), and indicated she understood my concerns

I just don’t like Corker, but I would be a bit surprised if he does not filibuster with Alexander claiming that he will.

Of course I have been disappointed by Corker many times.

I just called and they told me he hadn't decided.

Of course, that’s how squishes roll.

This should really be a no brainer.

If I Were A GOP Senator I Would Only Have Two Questions For Goodwin Liu

1) Do you believe Robert Bork should have been approved for the USSC ont he basis of goodwill and partisan comity.

2) If not, why in the hell should I even consider voting to confirm you!?

Just to be clear...

I don’t support Liu and it is becoming harder to find anyone who does.

Furthermore, anyone that does support him is either illiterate, unable to understand basic logic, has no appreciation for American tradition or values and deserves our scorn. If “Republican”, they need to be targeted for defeat.

However, what I don’t support are “Gang’s” of anything. Like John McCain’s “Gang of 14″. We are already fighting this tide of Left Wing Judicial assault becuase of him and his “gangs” s antics.

In fact, much the same way I believe “czars” are unconstitutional and the product of ill-advised, anti-democratic, freedom stealing intentions- so are the gangs. They obfuscate our constitutionally articulated process and steal our right for the sake of parochial, whimsical, capricious motives.

“Both of our political parties, at least the honest portion of them, agree conscientiously in the same object—the public good; but they differ essentially in what they deem the means of promoting that good. One side believes it best done by one composition of the governing powers; the other, by a different one. One fears most the ignorance of the people; the other, the selfishness of rulers independent of them. Which is right, time and experience will prove.”.Thomas Jefferson

McCain

McCain is a ‘no’ vote on Liu.

Not the point.

Marcus_Traianus (Diary) Thursday, May 19th at 12:27PM EDT (link)

McCain’s “gang” is supposedly a no vote according to reports- not that I give a fig in particular about them.

Time was that individual Senators had courage and stood on their own. They didn’t hide behind gangs organized to obfuscate congressional process with their whimsical, parochial view which otherwise would not get any credence.

Gee, Harry, in my 3rd grade social studies class, I was taught that the United States Congress, you know, the body in which you serve, is where law is made. Sweet little old Mrs. Miller must have just been confused.

It Sure Isn't Getting Made In The Senate!

He doesn't come close to meeting ABA 'standards'

Old_Crow (Diary) Thursday, May 19th at 11:40AM EDT (link)

ABA: 12 years practicing law
Liu: 2 years

ABA: Substantial courtroom and trial experience
Liu: No courtroom or trial exerience

How was he even nominated?
What possible justification could be use for approving him?

The democrat strategy must be that since we have an inexperienced community organizer as president, now we can nominate unqualified folks for every position.

I even picked up a couple of HuffPo fans posting the above..

“Enlightened statesmen will not always be at the helm.” — James Madison

good for you. I have a hard time on HuffPo

earlgrey (Diary) Thursday, May 19th at 3:10PM EDT (link)

because the poeple posting are motivated more by a hatred of the right than rational thinking IMO. I can’t believe some of the nonsense I read. It is kind of sad there are so many people on that site that are so willing to blindly follow left wing idealogy.

I don't post @ HuffPo often, but Liu wasn't getting much support even over there today.

Old_Crow (Diary) Thursday, May 19th at 3:39PM EDT (link)

Sometimes I do like stirring things up a bit, especially when I can use lib ideas against them. So predictable they are.

Yeah, if I like a fight I'll make a trip over there.

earlgrey (Diary) Thursday, May 19th at 5:12PM EDT (link)

I wish more people on this site would take their fightin’ words to the libs. Sometimes the arguments here bring down the site, and it is so much fun to stick it to liberals. I guess I really don’t find it satisfying is when people are very obviously wrong, but are not bright enough to realize the flaws in their “thinking”.

I just talked with Sen. Kirk's office

Dr. Botkin Thursday, May 19th at 11:53AM EDT (link)

and before I could finish with my talking points, the staff member interrupted to say that “Sen.Kirk is opposed to the Liu nomination.” I guess that means he is a no vote. If so, thank youi, Sen. Kirk.

His office says he will be voting no to cloture.

Thank you for these updates. nt.

earlgrey (Diary) Thursday, May 19th at 12:25PM EDT (link)

of course any time an activist provides updates to the rest of us they should be thanked, but sometimes it comes a little easier when the update is what we want to hear.

Since this guy isn’t even qualified by ABA standards, i would be disappointed in any R voting to end debate on this nominee.

Chambliss' office says he's a no vote. We'll see. nt

Maybe Obama could find some nice law school student to nominate for the position instead. After all qualifications don’t seem to matter.
