Newt Gingrich’s Campaign Withers. Is Its Death and Perry 2012 Imminent?

If you read my horserace post, you know I’ve been hearing about Newt Gingrich’s campaign disintegrating. I was asked to hold back, but word is now pouring out like water from a crack.

Steve Deace is reporting Gingrich’s Iowa team is closing up shop.

The Daily Caller is now reporting that Gingrich’s team is leaving en masse.

This tracks with what I’ve been hearing.

Now keep in mind that Gingrich’s senior team is also Rick Perry’s senior team. You don’t have to be a genius to start drawing some conclusions from what is happening to Gingrich.

For what it’s worth, I do not believe Gingrich is dropping out and there are no indications that Gingrich is dropping out. This just seems to be additional evidence that Gingrich’s management chaos has changed little since he was Speaker of the House. I think he thinks this thing was supposed to be handed to him.

On Newt’s Facebook page, he just put this up:

“I am committed to running the substantive, solutions-oriented campaign I set out to run earlier this spring. The campaign begins anew Sunday in Los Angeles.”

And I’m not sure if he is back from the Mediterranean yet.

On another thread, I said I was settling for T-Paw. However, if Perry runs, I might reconsider. Either way, Perry and T-Paw are my two top choices.

Although… I bet getting paid might be an issue.

Always wanted to work on one on them national campaign thingies…

while they do all the work. Doesn’t that seem like something our current President would do?

The longer the nuttiness continues in the Republican primary, the more likely a real and substantive big name enters the race. Newt was always an oxygen sucking sideshow and he never had a constituency. How he ever assembled a credible team is remarkable to me.

Actually, I hope the zaniness surrounding the field continues because it will cry out for a big name like Jeb, Perry, or Christie to run. Obama is far more beatble now and so passing would be a big mistake, especially considering the weakness of Romney and the gang.

I’m not 100% sold on Perry, and would prefer Jeb, but the more other non-starter candidates flame out the more likely they run.

Consider this a positive move for the 2012 race.

Because I don’t think he has a chance there.

It also lends credence to Perry’s claim that he didn’t plan on running, else his folks would have waited on him. As to why they went with Gingrich assuming Perry was out, you’ve got me.

It?s T-Paw or Perry for me. Either of them throw Rubio on the ticket, and it?s game-set-match, IMHO.

The recent polls had me thinking about RINO-ville with Romney for the common cause of overthrowing Obama next fall, but I?ve decided I just can?t get over his religion ? and by that I mean AGW.

    - I am sure they felt that Newt had a good shot – until they saw Newt bellyflop on national TV. I doubt Rick Perry will come out and say Paul Ryan’s plan is right wing social engineering.

Will Newt Gingrich’s Demise Be Rick Perry’s Rise?

    http://www.realclearpolitics.com/articles/2011/06/09/will_newt_gingrichs_demise_be_rick_perrys_rise_110152.html

“Rick Perry really has a compelling story, because at the end of the day, the U.S. economy is not going to improve, and his record as Texas governor is basically among the best in the nation among chief executives,” Republican strategist Ford O’Connell told RCP. “The key for Perry, if he should enter the race, is not to be a flamethrower but more of a refined candidate who demonstrates message discipline.”

Perry’s candidacy could return the focus of the GOP primaries back to Iowa and South Carolina at a time when New Hampshire has been getting the most attention from the establishment-aligned candidates.

A Perry campaign might also pose significant problems for potential candidates Michele Bachmann and Sarah Palin, both of whom share a similar political base of tea party-aligned voters.

“If Rick Perry gets in this race, it’s very hard to see any path to victory for Michele Bachmann in a national context,” New Hampshire GOP strategist Jamie Burnett said.

Give me a break. This should not come as a surprise to anyone. Newt sold out his conservative roots and bought into the GOP ruling class’ ideals of BIG Government, pork barrel spending, global warming, etc., etc. Newt’s sealed his own fate and is now reaping the whirlwind!

So long Newt! You had your chance to lead; you chose fame & fortune instead.

According to Cox reporter Jaimee Dupree in a tweet, former Georgia Governor Sonny Perdue is no longer Gingrich’s campaign co-chair. The Governor now backs Pawlenty.
Let the true conservative horses run!!

For all the comic relief we got from Obama citing managing his campaign as “executive experience,” you do have to admit that if you can’t run your campaign, you can’t run the most powerful nation in the world. If you can’t even select a team that doesn’t end up resigning en masse, then you’re going to be a pretty sorry POTUS.

Even if you cite that all these guys jumped ship together as a reason why this looks worse than it is somehow, then you have to ask why you would hire such a team and risk such a catastrophe? Why didn’t Gingrich mix in his loyalists along with Perry loyalists? Why didn’t he draw from a diverse talent pool that wouldn’t *all* split for Perry at the drop of a cowboy hat?

All in all, Gingrich failed the “chief executive” test. (You know, the one that the MSM never gave Obama…)

And the more I read about Perry, the more I like…time for an Air Force vet to be President!

The only question is what it will take to make him realize it and go back to making money off of those too gullible to know when they being flim-flammed.

    His arrogance knows no limits.
    An undisciplined fool.
He thinks he is a blue blood or something.

    Jeb. No.
    Perry. Maybe.
    Pawlenty. Needs to stay aggressive.
