EDITOR OF REDSTATE

About Charleston and Rick Perry

According to news reports, Rick Perry is announcing he’ll be running for President at the RedState Gathering.

I know nothing. My information comes from these same news reports.

The RedState Gathering is the same day as the straw poll in Ames, IA.

If the Governor announces or, as Reuters suggests, “strongly hints” well then that’s just cool and fine with me.

See, I told you people you should have registered for the Gathering. It is my understanding that his speech will be carried live by several networks. He will speak at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday, August 13th.

In other words, last week House Republican Leaders were pushing a story that neither I nor this site have any credibility or influence and now . . .

then you should give yourself a pretty big pat on the back, Erick, for being at the helm of a very respected blog. There are numerous outlets where Perry could potentially make this announcement, and he chose Red State. That speaks volumes.

BTW, I recall a diary from you some time ago about running for office. Are you going to make an announcement at the gathering also?

but I do wonder about the ‘special guest’ in Iowa.

The Gathering will have a livefeed, correct?

Whether or not Rick Perry announces (and it does sound like he will be) at the Red State gathering, you and Moe have done an excellent job creating a fine conservative website!
As for all those supposed conservative republicans that tried in vain to discredit you and Redstate,,,I see primaries in their futures!

But I really feel like the media narrative is going to be “Look what happened the last time we elected the governor of TX to the presidency.”

    What’s the response to that?

Don’t know if Gov. Perry is really gonna announce this weekend or not, at the RedState Gathering. But, my wife and I would be proud to witness this close-up and personal. I just hope that they seat you according to the date we purchased our guest passes. We are from (born & raised) in South Carolina and have always considered ourselves (bible thumping rednecks) and agree that this country has been on the brink since the socialists took over Washington in 2006. The Tea Party is really (We The People). Afterall, Sen. DeMint can’t be wrong because he is the new King Maker. I will post next week and let you know if we got good seats and if they treated us special or anything weird like that. And, if it becomes a town hall kinda thing (I’ll be the guy that compliments Gov. Perry’s wife for letting him RUN.)

we will recover from Obamanomics. The Big O has knocked the stock market down more and faster by his policy non-decisions and just his presence in the White House than the Muslim terrorists did, and he’s done it twice, so far.

So now the blame is being shifted from “Bush did it,” to “the Tea Party did it.” What maroons.

As to this site being credible, all I can say is that more times than I can count tbis site has been one step ahead of cable news in it’s political analysis.

It is one of the few political blogs in which educated and intelligent discussions occur from a conservative perspective. That is one of the main things that drew me here.

Everyone seems to be all for Rick Perry running for President. Is anyone concerned about the fact that Rick Perry was at one time a Democrat who worked for the Al Gore campaign? Or that Rick Perry is a member of Bilderberg?

Personally, I don’t trust Rick Perry, and I want a true Conservative that believes in Conservative values and the greatness of America. Not some guy that can’t figure out what party he supports and is in favor of a One World Government!!

Do your homework or please don’t vote!!

  • gekster

You need to do YOUR homework.
    Look up Ronald Reagan, homer.
    Uhh, homerette.

  • rememberthealamo

Good Lord man, he was a Democrat 30 years ago. And a very Conservative one at that. I know that seems like an oxymoron, but in the old days there actually was such a thing as a conservative Democrat. At least in Texas. Texas was a one party state. Perry and others became Repubs and turned the state red. No, as a Texan and daughter of 2 conservative Democrats (I’m now on the exec committee of my county Repub committee), I’m not worried about Perry as a Dem 30 years ago. Bet you did occasionally dumb things 30 years ago too.

Nor is he “for” or “a part of” One World Government! Do my homework? I’ve lived day to day for many years with Rick Perry as a state representative, an Ag Commissioner, a Lt Governor, and as my state’s longest serving Governor. I haven’t always agreed with him, but I’ve never seen him as anything but a strong Conservative who truly believes and represents the old time “God, Home and Country” ethos.

In my book, fighter pilot beats community organizer any day of the week. Vote for who you want to sir – that’s what makes America great – but don’t blather nonsense about a man and Governor you really don’t know. I know Rick Perry, and like him or leave him, he’s the real deal. What you see is what America will get as President.

know that Ronnie once said “I didn’t leave the party, it left me.” Must be the time when the Far Left was taking over. My parents were both life long dems and did not like the way dems were running things in the party and would have hated Obumber. Both quit voting somewhere in the 70′s.

That’s the problem with our Country today…..there are so many out there that see a good looking, smooth talking Candidate and they fall in love without getting to the core of the person. That’s how we ended up with Barack Obama!! No one wanted to look at his past and conclude that this was not a good human being. Well, my friend Homer, I for one am scrutinizing each and every candidate with a fine tooth comb, and if I see a red flag, It will scream it to the top of my lungs. If no one listens, so be it, but at least I tried!!

When I see that Perry was involved in a highly private meeting with Bilderberg……that, my friend is a red flag!!

    http://www.americanfreepress.net/html/perry_bilderberg_271.html

  • gekster

    Who cares about the build-a-burgers.
He gave a speach about the relationship between state and federal government.
    What is wrong with that.
And he was asked to give the speach.
So if not Perry, then who?

  • debbearl

Since you are a friend of Rick Perry, maybe you can tell me why he was involved in a very private meeting with the Bilderberg group back in June of 2007!! Bilderberg wants open borders between Mexico and Canada, and makes sure they have a horse in the race on the Democrat and Republican side…..that way they can’t lose!!

Bushes also believed in open borders. Bush never secured our borders either. You know I could never understand why President Bush allowed our Border agents to go to jail in Mexico for doing their job to protect our borders. Once I learned of Bilderberg and their beliefs, it all came together for me.

Personally, I will not vote for someone that believes in open borders and has attended secret meetings!!

  • gekster

And again I ask, if not Perry, then who do you support.
(and I am not a “friend” of Perry and we are not talking about Bush.
His time has come and gone).

  • debbearl

Oh and by the way, I am a huge fan of Marco Rubio. He is a great Senator representing Florida where I live, and I’m very proud of the job he has done. I would love to see him on a ticket, but he’s not constitutionally eligible.

  • ddrinsp

Perry quote: “Going through that (Gore experience) was part of what started me through the process of changing parties in 1989. I came to my senses.” Those who point out the Perry/Gore connection don’t clarify that Perry was Gore’s TEXAS Chairman . . . as if wanting to leave the impression that Perry was a member of Gore’s NATIONAL campaign.

As the chairman of the Republican Governors Association in 2008 and again in 2011, Perry has advocated conservative principles, states? rights, bashed President Obama and continually asserts that the federal government had overstepped its bounds on nearly every issue. Perry embraced the Tea Party early on when others dismissed it . . . he was one of the few mainstream politicians to attend Tea Party rallies in 2009.

  • gekster

Just where are you getting your info from.

  • Scope

I’ve read two articles today, one at the Hill, and one from the NYT, where you are being more or less blamed for taking the attention, focus, and excitement away from the Ames straw poll, because you have the nerve to hold an event in SC on the same day, and it may include a big announcement from Rick Perry. Have you no shame? LOL The NYT article said something like- the focus is being jerked southward. I love it.

  • debbearl

I was replying to the post “Utter Nonsense Sir”. He stated HE was a friend of Perry.

Come on……don’t be silly…..It’s public knowledge he attended the meeting, What they discussed is secret!! Kind of like the transparency in the WH.

As far as who I’m supporting, it’s too soon to say. I want to see the debates, and will do a lot of research before concluding. But, I can say I like Michelle Bachmann because she isn’t afraid to stand up against this tyrannical government, and call it what it is!! I believe she is a true American, and believes in borders.

The reference to Bush was to make a point. Just because there is a R. after their name doesn’t mean they represent my conservative values. I consider myself to be a Conservative not a Republican.

  • gekster

why the leftist talking points about Perry.
You are peroting what the left says about him.

  • JSobieski

The constitutional requirements to be president are not substantial:
    (1) natural born citizen–check
    (2) 35 years old—check
    (3) resident of the US for at least 14 years

Not sure what game you are playing or if you are just incredibly sloppy by conservatives (something you puport to be) should not just arbitrarily toss around the word “constitutionally”.

    Words have meaning.

  • Scope

going around whenever Rubio’s name is mentioned for higher office. Many are trying to say that Rubio is a “native born” citizen, because his father and mother were not US citizen’s at the time of his birth. The fact is his mother was a US citizen at his birth, in Miami FLA, and his father didn’t become a citizen until after his birth. I also read somewhere that his parents, at the time of their birth in Cuba, were actually Cuban-Americans, as they were born at a time that Cuba was a US protectorate, pre-Castro. Maybe someone else here can clarify that understanding. According to the US Constitution website, he is clearly eligible.

Because Rubio is a very well liked, and respected, by so many conservatives, he must be marginalized before he starts getting any ideas of running for higher office. You know the games the liberals play, including the passive aggressive poster above you.

  • gekster

Rubio was born in Miami, and he has a birth cirtificate.
There is no questions, unlike someone else.
(not saying nothing, the idiot IS President).
And like I did say, she is spouting the lefts talking points about Perry.

(and I find that posters who feel the need to proclaim that they are conservative, usually ain’t). ;)

  • Scope

and you have used it now in at least three comments. I do have to laugh at how you are shouting Bilderberger, Bilderberger, even though you admit you know nothing about what may be discussed there.

By your use of the Bilderberger meme you sound as though you are a Ron Paul shill, as they are the ones most likely to buy into every conspiracy theory out there. I also understand why the Paulbots don’t like Marco Rubio either, because he is a three legged conservative that doesn’t bow at the Ron Paul altar of only fiscal issues matter. Rubio and Perry both hold dear the value of a strong national security position, unlike grandpa Paul.

JFK reworked how Dem nominees got .. nominated.

At this point, though, EE is right to pull attention off it. Ames, and the whole Iowa caucus system, is in need of some reform. Campaigns can pay and bus in supporters, for themselves or for other candidates?!?!

I’m sure, for Ron Paul supporters, it’s a little like cosplaying an internet poll … and it has about as much real political significance.

Well, Erick…I don’t know if it will be official..official…that might happen at the state capitol in Texas…but this guy is going to run and it won’t be soon enough for me. I’ve been out there on the blogs with the left wing nuts cases defending Perry. So…I finally said enough…when the stock market started to go south and e-mailed a letter to him, told him I would support financially, told him I would help in the State of George and also called his office and left a message. I am sure Rick Perry does not listen to me…but his line was so busy…I bet there were plenty of “me’s” among the callers. We have to have a plain spoken, easy to understand American that tells it like it is and has class to go with it. I will also do all I can to get Romney off this ticket. The man is nothing more than Obama…BIG SPENDER…BIG GOVERNMENT. Those on the board… help me get rid of Romney…don’t want him…can’t afford him. thanks…Carolyn

  • carolynr

Unlike Romney who waited until the Congress voted on the debt ceiling and then put in his two c ents….Perry was right out there with cut, cap and balance. So…next we have to get on this congress about the 1% plan or the penny plan from Connie Mack….the debt needs to be cut…entitlement reform….and we have to take the pen away from Obama. We just gave away $100 million to Somalia yesterday…THIS HAS GOT TO STOP UNTIL WE GET OUR OWN HOUSE IN ORDER. It is not just entitlements…BUT ALL THE GOVERNMENT GIVEAWAYS AND GOVERNMENT PROGRAMS THAT ARE RUNNING US INTO THE DITCH.

to Somalia yesterday somewhere. On the day the DOW tanks, because our credit has been downgraded, because we are borrowing too much money, we borrow $100 million to give to Somalia for drought relief in that country. That almost sounded like an act of defiance by the Obama administration.

  • conservative_dan

You can say “look what happened the last time we elected the governor of TX to the presidency”, but that’s a specious argument. That would be like saying we should never elect another black person President along the same line of reasoning! I don’t believe that argument holds any water.

  • Scope

if I can be so bold as to use that word, or it has been a stumbling upon lesson in how to take the limelight off the ethanol Republicans in Iowa. For as long as I have been involved in watching politics, not that long admittedly, I have heard moans, groans, whining, and complaining about the way the Republican primaries have been conducted. Alas, nothing ever changes. I don’t know how long Iowa has been the first to hold Republican primaries, but, so many put so much stake in who comes out the winner in the Iowa caucuses, and supposedly they get credibility and momentum going forward. In 08 Romney won the straw poll, and Huckabee won the caucus. After Iowa, Huckabee was relegated to staying in motels that didn’t have newspapers. So much for momentum going forward, as the only thing Iowa accomplished was keeping someone in the race long long after he needed to bow out gracefully. And, they still love him, and would gladly vote for him again this year if he was running.

According to this article at Commentary Magazine, the Iowans are furious at Perry for stealing their thunder. “They won’t forget it.” The Perry supporters tried to get Perry included on the Ames straw poll, but, for whatever reason, the Iowa GOP decided against including him. If I am not mistaken, Romney has been leading in Iowa, and he is the only candidate that supports ethanol subsidies, as far as I know.

When the powers that be at RedState plan their gathering for 2016, please make sure that it is held on the same day as the increasingly irrelevant Ames straw poll day. Also, please invite Rick Perry back so that he can announce his bid for re-election on that date.

I’m sure that the gathering planning was more a stroke of great luck, but, going forward it can be a stroke of genius.

  • acat

Illinois, by the way, is another ADM (big agriculture biofuels) State. We plowed and planted corn and soybeans on a lot of marginal farmland when subsidies for biofuels made it profitable….

I’m not sure I believe Perry wants to be on the Ames ballot. From what I’ve read, they’re allowing non-declared candidates to be write-ins, so Perry and Palin supporters can both write them in, and Perry may be better off doing “unexpectedly well” with write-ins than he would be trailing Ron Paul’s purchased spot….
