EDITOR OF REDSTATE

A Good Way to Save Money

Newt Gingrich has come up with a good way to save some American dollars — stop funding the United Nations.

U.N. corruption was on full display last week when, as the Hudson Institute’s Anne Bayefsky noted, the U.N. published its provisional list of speakers for the September opening session.

It listed the speaker from “Palestine” as the “Head of State” for the first time ever.

This is just a preview of a diplomatic crisis and an existential threat to the state of Israel that is shaping up for September.

The Palestinian Authority is promising to ram ahead with its bid in just over a month to be recognized as a state at the United Nations, and the General Assembly will likely approve it over the objections of the United States and Israel.

This will define a Palestinian state with East Jerusalem as its capital, stretching to the 1967 borders and encompassing territory that currently is home to thousands of Israelis.

It is a dangerous plan.

It would violate every standing agreement the Palestinians have with Israel, including the Oslo Accords, to negotiate a final border agreement.

Go over to Human Events to read the whole thing.

Is Newt interested in running for president, or is he just interested in staying in the spotlight so he can peddle his books? That seems to be the only question there is to ask about Newt’s “presidential campaign”.

The idea Newt proposes is fine, but it’s never going to happen. Anyway, didn’t we hear this back when he ran the House. Sometimes it seems Newt has only his time as Speaker on which to rely. If he mentioned it in 1995, he seems to mention it now.

At this point, Newt is Gary Johnson with better name ID.

    Sorry for the rant.

plank in the GOP platform for 2012. MAKE the Democrats defend the UN in the election.

part of Sharon Angle’s campaign. I have wanted this for YEARS. They take our money and then use it against us. And ever since the little slime-weasel chair of the IPPC stated flat out last November that their climate hysteria is phony and amounts to nothing more than world-wide-welfare/income redistribution I want us OUT… and I want all of them OUT. Take back the building in NYC and let them build their little empire over in Belgium or some other place that falls for their endless lines of bull.

    Just a thought.

you’re giving Newt credit for this idea, it’s not like it’s remotely new. Conservatives have wanted to defund/kick out the UN for years.

Syria, Cuba, and Iran come to mind. Or maybe Somalia or Libya. Or put them in some dump in Palestine.

In that the majority of them believe that, they would all be gone by lunch.

funding is a huge indictment of its commitment to the future of the US.

there would have been a consensus on this in 2004, and the U.N. building would be a museum or something.

Not saying Ron Paul’s wrong here – but even a blind pig finds an acorn now and then.

The corruption, lies, and sheer lunacy that goes on there boggles the mind. It would be a popular move, given the recent appointments of some of the worst violaters of human rights to the UN Human Rights Commission.

I just cant figure out where defunding the UN falls in my list of favorite repeals behind Obamacare and Dodd/Frank after we win the 2012 elections.

I think China is ready to host the UN. It would be a good fit politically and a resume-enhancer for the eager beavers of Beijing. How ’bout it, Hu? C’mon… build ‘em a snappy skyscraper:

Would make it a top priority to rid the US of the UN.

All the way back to 2004, Rick Perry refused to honor the UN when Bush asked the Governors to recognize UN day. The Republican party of Texas has long been hostile to the UN.

Most recently, when the UN asked him to stop the execution of a Mexican rapist and murderer, along with the Mexican president, he ignored them.
