All You Need To Know About the President’s Speech

(1) The President will take Richard Trumka of the AFL-CIO with him to Congress tonight. Trumka’s union saw 500 of its members storm a business last night, take hostages, and destroy property. The President will also take Jeffrey Immelt of GE with him. General Electric is a prime example of a business that has profited lately not through the free market, but through the government picking winners and losers.

(2) Solydra, which got millions from Barack Obama in his last stimulus and had the President champion its cause, got raided by the FBi today.

(3) We would not have to be subjected to this tonight if President Obama’s last attempts had worked — including attempts from when the the Democrats controlled both the White House and Congress.

Tonight we will hear nothing new — just repackaged, failed ideas.

February 24, 2009:

Over the next two years, this plan will save or create 3.5 million jobs. More than 90% of these jobs will be in the private sector – jobs rebuilding our roads and bridges; constructing wind turbines and solar panels; laying broadband and expanding mass transit.

Because of this plan, there are teachers who can now keep their jobs and educate our kids. Health care professionals can continue caring for our sick. There are 57 police officers who are still on the streets of Minneapolis tonight because this plan prevented the layoffs their department was about to make.

Because of this plan, 95% of the working households in America will receive a tax cut – a tax cut that you will see in your paychecks beginning on April 1st.

Because of this plan, families who are struggling to pay tuition costs will receive a $2,500 tax credit for all four years of college. And Americans who have lost their jobs in this recession will be able to receive extended unemployment benefits and continued health care coverage to help them weather this storm.

January 27, 2010:

As a result, millions of Americans had more to spend on gas and food and other necessities, all of which helped businesses keep more workers. And we haven’t raised income taxes by a single dime on a single person. Not a single dime. (Applause.)

Because of the steps we took, there are about two million Americans working right now who would otherwise be unemployed. (Applause.) Two hundred thousand work in construction and clean energy; 300,000 are teachers and other education workers. Tens of thousands are cops, firefighters, correctional officers, first responders. (Applause.) And we’re on track to add another one and a half million jobs to this total by the end of the year.

The plan that has made all of this possible, from the tax cuts to the jobs, is the Recovery Act. (Applause.) That’s right -– the Recovery Act, also known as the stimulus bill.

January 25, 2011:

Over the last two years, we have begun rebuilding for the 21st century, a project that has meant thousands of good jobs for the hard-hit construction industry. Tonight, I’m proposing that we redouble these efforts.

We will put more Americans to work repairing crumbling roads and bridges. We will make sure this is fully paid for, attract private investment, and pick projects based on what’s best for the economy, not politicians.

Just words and status quo.

I’m about to head to the Capitol to ask Congress to act on my plan to put Americans back to work.

Before I do, I wanted to write you directly to remind you that the fight to create jobs — and provide the kind of economic security for middle-class families that’s been slipping away over the last decade — won’t begin or end with the speech I give tonight.

What happens will be up to you. In the coming days and weeks, it will be up to you to pressure Congress to act — or hold them accountable if they do not.

If you’re with me, let me know. And the campaign will make sure you are looped into our efforts to support this plan.

    Talk to you soon,

    Barack

Thought you’d like to know. Note the “This campaign isn’t funded . . . .” sentence. One could argue this is an admission that this speech tonight is a campaign speech.

    Thank you.

Who thinks he sounds angry? Not very presidential. The speed of his speech, slamming his hands down on the podium, and the tone of voice all lead me to believe he’s angry to be there. Maybe time for another vacation?

“everything would be fine if only those meddeling Republicans hadn’t blocked all of my plans” line of BS for election season.

Nevermind that it is repeat of what was tried in 2009.
Nevermind that they had 2 years of total control in Congress, and even had filibuster proof majorities for months.

I see it already on liberal message boards. They were blaming the drop in the stock market in late July on the Republicans in the House.

  • SoFiMil

If it wasn’t fit the tsunami, and…, and…, ….and the Arab Spring (hey, didn’t Obama take credit as the cause of the revolutions?).

The Democrats haven’t had a new idea in 75 years. Here’s BO trotting out the same failed vote buying boondoggles the Democrats have used since the New Deal.

They have never worked—that is not created prosperity, but they do buy votes, which is all Democrats care about. Just possibly enough people may be catching on it won’t work this time.

What is dis-spiriting, is so many Republicans have never read the Broken Window Fallacy. Government cannot stimulate an economy. If it could, every country on Earth would have a booming economy.

Government is overhead. Never mind all the perverse and negative things governments do when they have the resources, the larger the government, the greater the burden to be carried by the people. No business ever grew rich by increasing the number of janitors and security guards. Yet that is exactly what government stimulus amounts to.

  • hairbaggs

One morning we are all going to wake and find out our money won’t buy anything. Then what? Civil unrest, guns and chaos. We either suffer a little bit now or a whole lot later and maybe forever.

  • ken4285

This speech is yet another campaign stump speech, with typical Obamistic lack of any real substance. Just like his governing ability.

Carter was once told by a Democrat governor, “You’re not leading the country, you’re managing the government.” Obama can’t even do that. Four and out.

  • paulplantowin

No real plan for changing things. Even here too many people think in terms of public opinion.
The obvious reason Obama uses his tactics is that – from his perspective – they work.
Democrats are NOT concerned with real life effects of their policies. They want to win more power.
Their programs fail to live up to claims all the time, but their class warfare rhetoric gets RINO’s retreating, every time, so why would they ever change their playbook?
To me, conservatives have no effective answer to the publicity war side of this. We have all the facts on our side, but continue losing the words war.
    HOW do we win?

  • merada1776

Like the original Tea Party members, we are sick of tyranny and taxes. We are sick and tired of our leadership not listening to our voices. Also, we are serious about changing things and making this country a better place to live. And, like the first Tea Party we mean to be successful in our efforts.

  • msjallen

People don’t listen because they either feel helpless or they just don’t care.
We the People need to listen to the words and realize that 0 has nothing to say.

Psalm 33:10-11 The LORD nullifies the counsel of the nations; He frustrates the plans of nations. The counsel of the LORD stands forever, the plans of His heart from generation to generation.
Blessed is the nation whose God is the LORD, the people whom He has chosen for His own inheritance.

  • A Liberal

Cold Warrior, nice catch. There was also in that e-mail a hypertext link for the sentence, “If you’re with me, let me know.” http://my.barackobama.com/page/s/o2012-back-to-work-signon?source=20110908_bo_dems

Of course, even if the president hadn’t sent that crass e-mail, it would have been obvious that his new scheme is nothing other than a vote-buying scheme for he and his fellow fascists. If they are successful, not only will commerce be further polluted with aggression and violence (to pay for the interventions) but lots of people will end up paying for a long time to come for things that they almost certainly would not have chosen had they been permitted to choose freely, as in a free market.

And then there is the opportunity cost of Barry’s expensive campaign. What goods and services might be offered if he and Congress restrain their very busy bodies instead of diverting resources once again to political projects? What goods and services offered now might be less expensive, because capital is cheaper and the business environment more certain?

It’s by the way, that if you are working then you are most likely still paying for FDR’s re-election campaigns. Recall that your employer withholds a certain amount of money that is owed to you and sends it, instead, to the government to be spent by Social Security Administration. To add insult to injury, the laws have been rigged to bar you from suing your employer for breach of contract, i.e. for refusing to pay you all of what is owed to you for labor performed. If your employer and the government were not acting in concert with each other, the employer would have to eat 100% of the social security tax, which is a tax on employers’ wealth.

  • A Liberal

Erickson wrote that “[Richard] Trumka?s union saw 500 of its members storm a business last night, take hostages, and destroy property.”

It would have been nice not to have to go looking elsewhere for the name and number of the particular union, the name of the business, and a link for the article.

Also, Barry was lying on Feb. 24, 2009, when he claimed that “…this plan will save or create 3.5 million jobs. More than 90% of these jobs will be in the private sector.” It should go without saying that if the government is involved in arranging or paying for the work, then the work is not “private sector”.

  • ihateliberals

All I needed to know about the President’s speech is that the President made it. Enough said.
