EDITOR OF REDSTATE

The Obligatory Word Cloud For Tired Old Rhetoric

#alttext#

This speech sounds pretty much exactly like all his other failed speeches. Pretty much every job he talks about, just like in 2009, 2010, and 2011 are government jobs or jobs dependent on government.

The purpose of the American Jobs Act is simple: to put more people back to work and more money in the pockets of those who are working. It will create more jobs for construction workers, more jobs for teachers, more jobs for veterans, and more jobs for the long-term unemployed. It will provide a tax break for companies who hire new workers, and it will cut payroll taxes in half for every working American and every small business. It will provide a jolt to an economy that has stalled, and give companies confidence that if they invest and hire, there will be customers for their products and services. You should pass this jobs plan right away.

and

Building a world-class transportation system is part of what made us an economic superpower. And now we’re going to sit back and watch China build newer airports and faster railroads? At a time when millions of unemployed construction workers could build them right here in America?

and on and on and on.

But there’s no sputnik moment this time.

Compare, again, to his previous speeches:February 24, 2009:

Over the next two years, this plan will save or create 3.5 million jobs. More than 90% of these jobs will be in the private sector – jobs rebuilding our roads and bridges; constructing wind turbines and solar panels; laying broadband and expanding mass transit.

Because of this plan, there are teachers who can now keep their jobs and educate our kids. Health care professionals can continue caring for our sick. There are 57 police officers who are still on the streets of Minneapolis tonight because this plan prevented the layoffs their department was about to make.

Because of this plan, 95% of the working households in America will receive a tax cut – a tax cut that you will see in your paychecks beginning on April 1st.

Because of this plan, families who are struggling to pay tuition costs will receive a $2,500 tax credit for all four years of college. And Americans who have lost their jobs in this recession will be able to receive extended unemployment benefits and continued health care coverage to help them weather this storm.

January 27, 2010:

As a result, millions of Americans had more to spend on gas and food and other necessities, all of which helped businesses keep more workers. And we haven’t raised income taxes by a single dime on a single person. Not a single dime. (Applause.)

Because of the steps we took, there are about two million Americans working right now who would otherwise be unemployed. (Applause.) Two hundred thousand work in construction and clean energy; 300,000 are teachers and other education workers. Tens of thousands are cops, firefighters, correctional officers, first responders. (Applause.) And we’re on track to add another one and a half million jobs to this total by the end of the year.

The plan that has made all of this possible, from the tax cuts to the jobs, is the Recovery Act. (Applause.) That’s right -– the Recovery Act, also known as the stimulus bill.

January 25, 2011:

Over the last two years, we have begun rebuilding for the 21st century, a project that has meant thousands of good jobs for the hard-hit construction industry. Tonight, I’m proposing that we redouble these efforts.

We will put more Americans to work repairing crumbling roads and bridges. We will make sure this is fully paid for, attract private investment, and pick projects based on what’s best for the economy, not politicians.

How many times did he say,

    pass this right now?

What was real odd is he said it several times before he even described his plan. Weird.

The only value at all in this speech would be its use in a introductory logic course. It’s a cornucopia of fallacies: ad hominem, excluded middle, appeals to authority…and deeply, deeply condescending, in its assumption that ‘goverance as tent revival’ is a viable leadership strategy.

Well known back story: We all know on here and its been well commented on that this speech was designed to make a win-win situation for Obama. Either endorse his 2nd stimulus or get the blame.

But the situation is exactly the opposite. Actually we have an opportunity here even more juicy then the debt ceiling debate because he is the one that initiated it.

It appears that Dems forget that they can’t pass what they want out of the senate, but in the house the GOP can!!!!!! That makes for a very sweet setup because the only bill for consideration in a month or two(if there is one) will be a conservative jobs bill not the presidents. And our side can now make the left squeal bloody murder by the amazing gift they just gave us.

Lets say we combined the payroll tax cut + the hiring tax credit + ..drum-roll… a reduction in the corporate tax rate to a flat 20%, and a huge rollback of agency regulations all the while simultaneously labeling the president’s plan as failed stimulus round two.

You then force him into either agreeing “to put politics aside” for the good of American jobs and signing something his base will absolutely loath him for or being the one that stood in the way of a jobs bill.

Thank you Barack Obama for this amazing gift to finish you off, I just hope the congressional GOP see that, too.

pResident 0bama stated in his partisan demand session that we must pass his plan because we are no longer number 1 – but of course we can be again number 1 if we do as he says.

    W.T.F.

Did I miss something that said our economy has been surpassed by (I assume) china’s?

I think that 0bama (or his alter ego that writes this crap for him) let slip their true vision of America – a washed up nation that is begging for some socialist empty suit to lead it to the promised land of welfare checks and government cheese.

His re-writing of our nations rise to greatness based on communal endeavors? Unbelievable.
This nation was built on the backs of individuals who had a vision and the drive to see that vision come to fruition. They did it for themselves, their families and in many cases used that success to benefit society as a whole – make no mistake though, it was never for the good of the socialist community as our wanna-be socialist dictator is trying to convince us.

This ‘man’ is a dangerous demagogue whose vision is to see this nation in ruin.

lie to the American people, spend money we don’t have to pay off cronies, ruin the economy. Rinse. Repeat.

He is worse than a broken record.

left a bad taste in my mouth.
I seem to recall the same URGENCY to pass 0bamacare BEFORE we could get the chance to read what was in it.
Same kind of URGENCY to pass a CLEAN debt ceiling increase with no strings attached.
ALWAYS gotta watch out when they urge them to PASS IT NOW

Here was the arterms: Drink when you here this:

Millionaires$Billionaires: Only one drink this speech

Working folks: again only one time

    Shared Sacrifice: 0

Faliure to act now: yes and no or kinda, I drank anyway

    Congress/System is Broken: 0

Fair Share= 2 drinks. I was getting thirsty so good for him

The secret word is “liberty” if the president talks about it everyone drinks. Well he mentioned it but it may be disqualified since it was used in a different context and not directly to the audience. I still give him credit for letting it pass from his lips.

A couple things he slipped in while we hoped we were not paying attention:

2012 investment write offs for equipment investments for coporations:
Does this apply to Corporate Jets?

” Modest adjustments to Medicare and medicade”
This either means throwing Grandma under the bus or pushing the costs to the states.

is the terms emphasized, reflecting the latest polling on reactions to words and phrases. Otherwise it is identical in most respects to the ARRA 2009 speech and bill.

The money will go to states to preserve union jobs, again allowing them to postpone straightening their own messes. Another chunk to “infrastructure projects” which did not merit inclusion in the last huge transportation bill, with unions to extract their share before allowing any to go forth. And payroll tax cuts taking away the lifeblood of programs already bleeding red ink.

Naturally, Obama’s “offsets” to pretend he isn’t violating the agreement on the debt ceiling he made only one month ago, are all in the “out years,” which means they are divided between cuts which can never be made and revenue from winning PowerBall and MegaMillions every time one gets to $100 million for the next 700 years.
