He should NOT run. His credibility is at stake. Perhaps in 2016 – not now.

  • Whacker77

Come on Erick, Palin’s just going rogue on us once again. She doesn’t want to be shackled by the contraints of the calendar. She’s an unconventional politician. Time, as we know it, means nothing to her. Maybe she’s so rogue she goes by a different calendar than we use.

Who’s to say she won’t wait until December 1, 2012, to announce her decision. Yes, the election will have already been held, but maybe her real audience is the electors. Maybe her unconvetional nature makes her believe she can just lobby them. After all, they’re the one’s who matter. If she comes rolling in on her Constitution draped bus with Rush in tow, that could convince them to vote her into office.

Don’t discount the idea. Being shackled by a campaign can cut down on her money making ability.

with your red carnation in your lapel. LOL

Since my self-imposed RS exile, I’ve found it tough to break the habit. It’s hard to go cold-turkey on a site I’ve visited 20+ times a day for about 3 years. I’ve managed to get down to about 3-4 times a day and have avoided posting, so I was making progress.

I would call your hourly “updates” juvenile, but I don’t want to insult children. I would call them snarky, but frankly that would give snark a bad name. (The milk carton is snarky and funny, though!) They are just spiteful.

So thanks, you’ve just helped me over my last hurdle and I can remove RS from my bookmarks without a second thought. You deserve everything the C4Pers (of which I am not one) throw at you today.

  • Aaron Gardner

    Since it ain’t happening.

  • aesthete

    We’ll miss you.

  • azaeroprof

I’ve always enjoyed my interactions with you, even (maybe even especially) when we didn’t agree.

I can’t tell you how much of a hole this leaves in my heart. Watching the site that I thought was the conservative site go to being The anti-Palin site has been a big disappointment to me. But I never had a problem with civil dialogue with folks like you who could discuss her with an open mind.

  • aesthete

I’ve been posting a lot less in the primary season, myself. It would be a shame to see you go, though. Think about coming back after the election, why dontcha? Can’t have all the Arizonans on RS stop posting simultaneously; it’d look suspicious :)

  • azaeroprof

I’ll lurk back in a few months and see if things have changed. Thanks again.

    ‘Til then, take care!

it makes no difference if Palin runs or not. I’ll vote for whoever the nominee is. Heck, I’d vote for anyone, no matter what party, if the are nominated to run against Obama. Except maybe Ed Rendell.
However, our delegates at the convention do need to pick the nominee who has the best chance of beating OB. If Palin is in the mix, I really do not know if it hurts or helps our chances of winning the white house back. So we have ten months of hearing the candidates, paying way too much attention to the polls and letting the media choose the nominee. I’d rather spend my time influencing the delegates. Help me form a plan.

hopes you come back. You presented your arguments respectfully, backed up with evidence, and in a way that I appreciated.

The election season certainly seems to bring out the worst in some which has caused others to visit less often, myself included.

Hope you reconsider after a time.

  • azaeroprof

The only reason I didn’t have a lot more dialogues with you is that I never disagreed with you! ;) Your posts are awesome.

  • JSobieski

Fact-based discourse is much needed in these challenging times.

I totally understand the need to off line for a while and recharge.

Have a great and politics free weekend.

  • azaeroprof

I’ve always enjoyed our conversations. (Though I wish you would treat other Palin fans as well as you treated me! Most of them mean well.)

  • azaeroprof

You’re the fact king in my book! :)

  • Tbone

Cripes, it’s not like we all aren’t nuts about something. You should have been around when Leon went nuts when GWB nominated Harriet Miers. Now that was fun times.

As you know, I have been more sympathetic to Palin than most but she really had an uphill struggle because so many people don’t like in your face women and McCain allowed her to be demonized early on. However, she needed to get in the game early and outshine the other hopefuls and she didn’t. Can’t say as I blame her because you have to have some loose screws to run anyway.

So, hang around a bit. There is a lot of fun to be had.

I’ll send you mine. (It has my last name in it, so I don’t want to publish it here!)

But it goes deeper than just today’s inane posts. I’m going to stick with my sabbatical, though I will indeed consider it a sabbatical, for a while. I will at least keep the door cracked.

how the C4P cultists have put a lot of us in the mindset where we are now. A number of months ago, some of us chuckled about how the Palin acolytes might wind up being as obnoxious as the Paulbots. Well, it happened, and that crowd is smack in the middle of it. They hurt their cause, not help it. The least bit of criticism of Her causes them to erupt in shrill shrieks of anger. The natural reaction is to push back and disregard the object of their obsession as being as nuts as they are. Of course in this case, Palin’s apparent attention-mongering is the core issue…not her followers. But they have definitely contributed to the response.

  • azaeroprof

At least not publicly. I haven’t read every diary on RS in the last several months, but I’ve probably read the significant majority of Palin-related diaries for sure. And I’ve seen MUCH more vitriol directed AT Palin supporters than BY Palin supporters. (Now I don’t see Erick’s inbox, nor do I regularly read C4P to see if they bash RedState much there. But frankly, if Erick’s reading C4P to see if they bash him and then treating Palin supporters here in retaliation, that would make him on a par with the C4P folks themselves.)

  • Aaron Gardner

It has been pretty relentless Mark. And for the record, Abie Rubin makes sure to cross post his jabs from C4P to RedState each time he posts.

  • azaeroprof

Against essentially the entire RS editorial board, mbecker, and numerous others. And Twitter isn’t RedState. I’ll stand by my observation that the vast majority of Palin fans who post on RedState are pretty respectable. Their support for her may be more emotion-based than many would like to see. But Erick shouldn’t be retaliating against Palin supporters at RedState due to something some C4Per does on Twitter!

  • aesthete

Palin supporters were wrong, and it looks like they were either duped or Palin duped herself. It happens; let’s move on.

  • Aaron Gardner

    Logic like that is grating.

  • azaeroprof

I’ve been visiting 20+ times a day for almost 3 years. For about the last 2 weeks, I’ve stopped posting and dropped to 3-4 times a day to lurk.

And as one who has been a consistent Palin supporter throughout, I certainly haven’t missed many Palin-related diaries.

The one thing I have been missing is the anti-Palin-groupthink that has apparently infected the moderators behind the scenes. It sure looks that way from this vantage point anyway.

  • westcoastpatriette

Do you really think it is not a big deal that Sarah repeatedly said she would announce one way or the other by today’s date? And here we are–still nothing. Since she keeps the suspense dragging on and on do you really think no one should notice much less begin to make a few jokes about the whole thing?

You are being silly by thinking we are the ones overreacting. Get a clue. And don’t take it so personally.

  • azaeroprof

I don’t care if she announces today. I would have preferred she announce 2 years ago. But she doesn’t owe me a timetable. If she gets in or not, she has to deal with the ramifications. So she said “by the end of September”? And she didn’t live exactly by that statement. Why is that any different than Rick Perry saying he wasn’t going to run, then changing his mind? Or Chris Christie swearing he won’t run, but still having his folks send out teasers? Or Rudy Giuliani continuing to send out feelers? Or The Donald playing his little games.

Politicians say things and don’t always abide by them. Fine. That I can live with. But I don’t see Erick needling any of them…on an hourly basis.

And frankly, given the way the candidates are banging each other up and flaming out in the debates, if she does get in late and run, she looks pretty smart for having waited, IMHO.

  • westcoastpatriette

then please don’t be such a spoiler for those of us who are merely having a little fun with the whole thing, okay? Thank you.

  • Scope

for over two years that maybe he will or maybe he won’t. Rick Perry is a more than 10 year sitting Governor. He didn’t quit half way into his first term. You asked for that.

  • Scope

and all of the trash vetting every announced candidate, that has been willing to put themselves out there for the same trasing Palin got from the leftists makes her “smart.” Surely you jest. Palin doesn’t have the guts to put herself into the same fray all of the GOP candidates have thrown themselves into. That isn’t “smart” that is a coward.

  • freentn

not Flip Flop. He does not support ObamneyCare. He does not support Santuary Cities and Santuary Mansions. He does NOT support Abortions. He is Not a Job Killer. In short, he is NOT romney!

  • azaeroprof

I like Rick Perry. His service as Gov. has been most admirable. He’s an Eagle Scout and wrote a book about Eagle Scouts. As a former Scout leader, that is a big plus in my book.
Sarah quit. She’ll have to deal with the political consequences of that decision. And she should. It’s just not as much of a disqualifier for me as it is for some.

I would’ve liked her to announce sooner, no question. I don’t know why she hasn’t. Maybe her detractors are right and she is indeed just stringing us along selfishly. Or maybe she and her family are just having a hard time making the call. Maybe she believes the meme that she can’t win but has such a fire to run that she is struggling with it. I saw something yesterday that implied that if she announces before The Undefeated comes out on DVD, there is some kind of legal deal that involves Bannon. I dont’ know if there’s any truth to that. It could be any of these things. Does anyone here have any clue? We’re all just stating our opinion.

  • Scope

from C4P moderators, some are saying that they paid $100 to be the first to get the DVD. They are saying that the DVD is now available at Wal Mart. In my honest opinion, if Palin gave anyone else the opportunity to determine her announcement date, that’s not good judgment on her part.

  • azaeroprof

What I heard, and again I don’t know how valid it is, was that it had nothing to do with anything she decided. It was that Bannon would get in some hot water (fines, maybe?) if she announced before the DVD date. Something about direct contributions to a candidate. Maybe it’s just out of courtesy to him.

I’m not saying this is valid or has any bearing on her choices. Just telling you what I heard.
