The Same Washington Post That Got Marco Rubio’s Story Wrong, Attacks Him Again

Last week, the Washington Post attacked Marco Rubio for “misrepresenting” his family’s story. The Post got called out by other newspapers for the Post’s egregious truth stretching to make its story fit. In the quotes the Washington Post cited, the reporter misrepresented the context of Marco Rubio’s remarks. It was true that Rubio had gotten some details wrong. But it was also very clear that they were the innocent mistakes of a son retelling his parents’ story. It was also true the Washington Post got parts of its reporting wrong.

But the Washington Post has not stopped. Now the paper is back at it premising a new article on the last story without nothing the Washington Post itself got key elements of its story wrong. This time, the Washington Post wants to make the case that Marco Rubio could be a risky Vice Presidential pick for the GOP.

Seriously.

We have a President of the United States who, for twenty years, worshipped in Jeremiah Wright’s church, had his house paid for by Tony Rezko, claimed his uncle freed Jews at Auschwitz, snorted cocaine, and got other key biographical details wrong and the Washington Post never seemed to think he was too risky.

The other angle of attack in the Washington Post is defending Univision’s smear of Rubio’s family. Marco Rubio refused to do an interview with the very liberal leaning network. After Rubio refused to do the interview, Univision ran a report on Marco Rubio’s brother-in-law getting arrested 24 years ago for drug trafficking. Univision denies a connection and argues about the time line.

But somehow, according to the Washington Post, these two incidents make Rubio risky. There really is more of a story here than the Washington Post lets on.

Everyone knows that despite Rubio’s denials he is every Republican’s first choice for Vice President. The left cannot abide the first hispanic Vice Presidential candidate being a Republican. The Democrats expect to have the black vote locked up in 2012 and they want the hispanic vote locked up too. That would be made more difficult with Rubio on the Republican ticket.

So the left is using the Washington Post to attack Rubio now, just as the Obama Administration has begun attacking Mitt Romney now. The calculus is that Romney will be the nominee and Rubio the veep pick. Consequently, the left is on the attack now trying to damage Rubio’s reputation as much as possible. CNN reports the Democrats even have a PAC run by a former Harry Reid staffer engaged in this.

The Democrats are deathly afraid of what Marco Rubio as the GOP’s Vice Presidential nominee could do to Obama’s re-election chances and the long term fortunes of the Democrats within the Hispanic community. The Washington Post is running the Democrats’ attacks for them as part of the left.

Each attack shows just how scared of Marco Rubio the Democrats really are.

And they should be.

I almost feel its karma hitting Rubio back for his in principled flip flop on the instate tuition issue he championed while a Florida state senator. He should have stuck by his principles instead of Playing politics about a issue that may hurt him with Tea party, but been the strong thing to do. He could of helped the party with Latinos but he showed himself to be more of the same. I liked him a lot, but he lost some of my respect that day. He could have been a warrior for conservatives, but now he is establishment like most others. It was sickening to me, oh well.

they blame Republicans for not coming up with anything. I keep up to date on what is happening in Washington and when someone on Fox (don’t watch other stations for more than ten seconds because they lie) interviews a Democrat or a Democrat Strategist and doesn’t ask them why they won’t vote on them, it makes me furious. It’s not Republicans that won’t do their job.

They fear Rubio and Cain. They can’t shake the notion that the Left owns all minority groups and when some escape the Marxist plantation they must be hunted down and destroyed.

They must really be concerned about One-bama’s reelection chances for them to start attacking a “non-candidate” this early in the game.

  • celador2

Rubio is but a rookie and not really experienced to be VP USA. Fox news TV pundits Coulter , Hannity and Oreilly have crowned him VP.

Rubio is Cuban and its unclear if a common language Spanish is enough to swing other Hispanic voters from Mexico, for example. Campaigning in Spanish might win some votes but may lose some in a GOP voice.

Can Rubio swing Florida is the only relevant qualification I see for putting him on ticket. He has the Cuban vote but non Cuban hispanics may not be drawn to his policies.

Having a Hispanic VP or president is not a priority of mine. Ethnicity like gender as sole or first standard to pick a nominee is not my cup of tea.

  • gator_hoo

Was Cain mentioned at all in this post?

Are there any news stories from WaPo that have made up lies or distorted Cain’s history in the news?

  • evas

that Rubio is not qualified to be President because his parents were not citizens, same as Hussein Obamaramadingdong. Is this true?

  • tommyzax

    (1) Washington Post is employing Marxist dialectical materialism. That is, go in any direction you like, whether irrational or non-linear, in order to get your destination. They don’t care if they got it wrong. They will act as if nothing has happened to throw them off track. Integrity is not a plank.

    (2) Notice that if the Post attacks Rubio, even if valid (which it’s not), nobody on our side cries ‘racism.’ But if conservatives were to point out similar activity in any other Hispanic, the double standard would be evident in that every liberal would cry foul. So, you have your choice to sit back quietly and take it, or fight back and instantly be labeled.

    (3) By allowing (1) and (2), we show ourselves to be patsies, not quite strong of character. Remember when mom said to use reason, not fists? How’d that work out for you? We never left the playground.

    (4) Concerning Rubio, he’s likable and has some good ideas, but he’s a rookie. Oh, you want to invoke Obama as a precedent? What? You didn’t hear me on (1), (2), and (3)? The… other… side… is.. not … going… to … play… fair.

    (5) There’s no guarantee that nominating Rubio gets you the Hispanic vote. Here’s a harsh reality (and involves ethnic behavior). Blacks vote differently than Hispanics. Hispanics are already conservative by nature. I can tell you right now that they love Herman Cain, Ron Paul, and possibly Newt Gingrich? Why? Hispanics respect strength of character. Do blacks? You answer that question – I already answered the one at hand.

….we’re talking vice president, but isn’t it the same thing?

Any questions about his parentage are thus irrelevant to his citizenship.

  • chefm

The articles main point was the attack on Rubio, however, it’s safe to say the article is correct in it’s claim that the left is afraid of losing some of the Latino vote, which in turn shows a fear of losing other minorities the left has a lock on due to the pandering to their needs, legal or otherwise. So it’s also safe to say that Cain would jeopardize some of the black vote, making the comment about Cain relevant..

  • avagreen

I felt like one of my conservative heroes wasn’t anything like I’d thought he was going to be.

    I’m sick as well.

  • chefm

I agree that a candidate shouldn’t be picked for the sole purpose of race or gender. I will vote for anyone regardless of either as long as they fit my values and principals, or in next years case, anyone who is nominated to run against Obama. But as for the experience issue and not being experienced enough, I think his credentials far out weigh many of our past VP’s and even our current President. Rubio is a smart man. He ran a brilliant campaign in 2010. I remember Gretta interviewing him on the side of the road somewhere in Florida as a long shot, just to watch him excel to victory. I’ll take Rubio any day of the week for VP. That experience alone will excel him to the possible top spot. I wouldn’t mind that either. Just not yet. I understand he would be next in line should something happen to the President, but one thing Obama has taught us is that we could elect a monkey and we would be better off than we are today.

I have heard this too. It really is a shame that those who really believe this and think that your parents have to be naturally born citizens aren’t going after Obama.

For goodness sake, if you are going to disqualify Rubio don’t you think you should at least go afgter the one who is actually in the white house?

Till this groups goes after Obama and proves this to be a requirement I think they make them selves sound silly, in my humble opinion :-) .

  • sedentaryactivist

While I agree that a color-blind approach is much more Republican (and fair) I think that a Cain / Rubio ticket would reset the way the Democrats play the race card and it will affect how I vote.

Obviously, the Post is running these stories because libs are fearful of a shift in the electorate that Rubio can make. There is no other reason. I think conservatives would be smart to not just go for the presidency but to take Obama’s awful showing and turn it into a generation-changing shift to the right. Cain / Rubio could do that.

We could try to establish the high ground and say things like “race doesn’t matter” but I, for one, am done bringing knives to a gunfight.

  • chefm

Big time. I am right there with you. I also have trouble watching other networks because of not just lies, but blatant lies with a straight face. But watching Fox and the interviews with Democrats in the supposed hot seat, it’s much cooler than the Republican seat. I watch with anticipation, waiting for the interviewer to ask the tough questions, and when it’s all over, I sit in disappointment wondering why the important questions weren’t asked.

Seems to me that even Fox is afraid to upset the fray in fear of backlash from the msm who isn’t getting the ratings Fox does. If Fox keeps it up, they will start losing viewers just as fast. I get most of my information through my own research, but use Fox as a base sometimes. I suppose I could use mslsd as a base, but it’s easier to start from the truth than lies.

Unfortunately, the only ones willing to ask the hard questions are those like Hannity, which is why no Democrat wants to be interviewed by him. He would actually do his job. I don’t always agree with Shawn, but at least he’s not afraid of the opposition like O’Reilly is.

  • izoneguy

  • earlgrey

I would like to see a network that offers the kind of hard hitting analysis of liberals as we see in the blogosphere. I supposed Glenn Beck TV is supposed to be the answer to that.

Are we stuck with O’Relilly, Hannity and Greta Van Susteren in prime time forever. Fox has really lost appeal to me.

  • eddiethegeek

The left should be VERY afraid of Rubio. He’s young, smart, articulate and handsome, AND he’s latino. Therefore the objective Washington Post (and I’m certain that others will soon follow) MUST stop him NOW! They know that unless he’s stopped now, the Oval Office will one day be his.

Forget VP – I would vote for Rubio for President right now in a heartbeat. I know, I know, he’s only been a U.S. Senator for less than two years. Don’t you know the new paradigm is that experience is overstated? One thing I’m certain of – Mario’s a helluva lot smarter and more articulate than the dimwit we have in the White House right now, and watching the two debate would be something I’d take great pleasure in. I think Mario can actually put words together to form a sentence without a teleprompter in front of him.

  • westcoastpatriette

The Republican Party gets so desperate they try to push people into the White House before they are ready. Makes us look foolish.

He is not ready to be V.P. and admits that he isn’t. Just leave him where he is for now. There is a maturing process that needs to take place no matter how many wonderful qualities a person may have.

  • chefm

That’s the problem with Republicans. They are so afraid to be demonized by the opposition, they keep tip toeing around the issues. This is one reason I like Cain, and why so many were willing to overlook Christie’s Liberal overtones.

I am sick of the Republicans being cowards and I don’t even think they bring a knife. More like a bouquet of flowers. It’s time we had someone who’s not afraid.

For God’s sake, Conservatives out number the Liberals 2 to 1 and add in the portion of the 40% independents that are center right, and it’s baffling as to why they won’t grow some.

  • papabear

From the outside, it seems that the “O” decision process is deliberately malicious. It seems as if his advisers study the situation and pick the most negative option that is defensible to his base. Once the decision has been “tested”, they write the speech and “O” teleprompts to the nation.

  • losmacs

What’s sauce for the goose is sauce for the gander. The old definition is a dead letter because of Obama’s case. If there is no objection to Obama’s father being a Kenyan citizen, then there can be no objection to Rubio’s parents being ex-pats who fled a Marxist dictatorship in Cuba.

PS-the idea of a Cain\Rubio ticket is a very intriguing one! Both would bring strengths to the campaign that are lacking on the other side.

Remember when the Washington Post attacked George Allen about the macaca comment? They beat that drum so loud and so often that a small gaffee destroyed his career. I think they want to do the same with Rubio but we will not let them.

  • johnt

of the media this is both sick and laughable. These degraded beasts however, devoid of any minimal hints of decency, do have one thing right, there is a ocean of stupidity in this country, and as sure as hell itself there will be plenty of morons who will say in effect,”I can’t vote for a man who’s brother in law had a drug conviction 24 years ago”. BTW, was Rubio even married then ?
Gee, wasn’t it only a couple of days ago that some of the wits here were saying we shouldn’t pay attenttion to the MSM?

  • gator_hoo

Besides that point, please give me a list of all the WaPo hit pieces against Cain.

  • carolynr

This guy is prime for a VP slot. Since WaPo is a mouthpiece for the administration, along with Romney, who has a paid blogger, it appears that it would be good the smear Rubio. Obama wants that Latino vote…and hey…maybe all these polls are wrong because they sure are making a big fuss about something that does not seem that important. How many Latinos would cross over to the Republican ticket if Rubio were on it?

  • runner12

Their “racist GOP” meme has been losing traction for years and they are now seeing the potential for it to be eradicated entirely.

But it is more than just a race issue for them. Rubio is one of the best communicators of the Conservative message out there. He is smart, articulate, and even has a sense of humor.

The Left will stoop to anything to try and take this guy down. All I can say to them is good luck, because this guy is about as solid as it gets.

Rubio is OURs, and we still need him representing us in the Senate. You can have Marco in 2020, so we’ll get at least a term and a half out him, but find somebody else for now. ThanksFromFlorida…

That’s a piece disparaging something Cain actually said, that he wouldn’t hire Muslims for the Cabinet. Furthermore it is expressly an opinion piece, not a news piece. There are no consolation prizes, but thanks for playing.

  • chefm

Did you notice I said “Wasn?t the point but here?s one the Post printed.” Doesn’t say they ran the story and it still has nothing to do with the original.

No consolation prizes for you, but thanks for playing.

where everyone wants him to be. Rubio is correct to do that. Rubio gets to pick the ticket he would join, or not. Why would Rubio agree to be second on the ticket with a virtual unknown, and less experienced than him candidate like Cain. He would be throwing away a very promising career.

  • bzip

That is the way I see it too, Scope. I don’t know how anyone with any experience is going to take being second on the ticket to a guy that has no experience and is a unknown – that is going to be tough.

The left attacks what it fears.

There’s a reason Rubio has been taking heat from the left (and all cheap shots).

There’s a reason the DNC is running anti-Mitt ads already.
