Univision Chairman Calls Rubio “Anti-Hispanic”

Haim Saban is an Egyptian born Israeli-American and Chairman of Univision, the Hispanic television station. For the past several months, Univision has tried to get Marco Rubio to come on Univision for an interview and offered to kill or run a negative story on Marco Rubio’s brother-in-law depending on what Rubio did.

Senator Rubio would not be bought and Univision ran the story on his brother-in-law. Subsequently, all of the Republican candidates refused to participate in a debate on Univision, opting instead for a debate with Univision’s competitor Telemundo.

The New Yorker has a big story on what Univision did or did not do to Marco Rubio. It’s fully pro-Univision spin. The Miami Herald has reviewed it. About all you need to know is that Haim Saban, Chairman of Univision, claims that Marco Rubio is “anti-Hispanic.”

The New Yorker piece is written by liberal writer Ken Auletta who once claimed that Rubert Murdoch imposes his political preferences on Fox News and other Newscorp holdings, but for some reason can’t seem to believe Haim Saban, who has a long history of supporting left-leaning causes (though supported George W. Bush in 2004 because of Israel), would do the same.

And we know what agenda Haim Saban wants to push. According to Saban, “The fact that Rubio and some Republican Presidential candidates have an anti-Hispanic stand that they don’t want to share with our community is understandable but despicable.” Saban wanted to get the Republicans on stage and have a slanted debate with questions sympathetic to illegal immigration — a set up to help the Democrats woo hispanic voters in 2012.

But Univision overplayed its hand with Rubio who stood up to them and now they have no debate, no bridge to the most popular Hispanic Republican in America, and just a liberal writer willing to use the New Yorker to let Univision whine.

A more important issue here is that Univision seems intent to let this kerfuffle fester and to use its “news” resources to damage both Marco Rubio and Republicans. In particular, the Chairman of Univision seems willing to admit he will use Univision to portray Republicans as “anti-Hispanic” in 2012 in an effort to help Democrats. The GOP might want to start wooing Telemundo not as a GOP alternative, but as an objective news source without Univision’s baggage.

Rubio is anti-hispanic. He’s a Republican; doesn’t that speak for itself? Come on, we know that “authentic” hispanics vote Democrat.

Haim will do or say anything to facilitate the destruction of this country from within.

And just in case I’m accused of shouting Jooo in a crowded room, I am Jewish. I served on board a US Navy submarine, and my daughter fought and died for this country, in Iraq.

I think anyone should be allowed to point out a self-hating person, but I recognize that PC prevents people from speaking out.

he is a principled conservative who would make an excellent VP choice.

i also am blessed to have rick scott as my governor and allen west as my congressman. : )

of your precious daughter while serving our beloved country! I’m so very sorry for your loss.

My granddaughter left at noon today to return after leave from the Army. She’s new, just went in early Sept., but I’m suffering through the mixed emotions of stark fear and pride. Particularly since she told us at breakfast this morning that her goal is Special Ops. But we will back her all the way in her choices.

Thank you for your service and for your daughter giving her very life for us. My heart goes out to each of you, along with many prayers.

Tell us how you really feel!!

Do you think Haim is as bad as George Soros? One of my Jewish friends always says that Soros is Public Enemy number 1 in terms of self-hating Jews.

Haim Saban? Not so much. Gotta say, I’m not taking seriously the guy who brought us such thought-provoking, life-changing entertainment as “Mighty Morphin’ Power Rangers”, “Beetleborgs”, “VR Troopers” and…. hmm.. well, pretty much anything involving five multi-ethnic teenagers, aliens and giant redubbed Japanese robots destroying the same cities over and over and over again.

  • lineholder

and do more harm than good to their cause in the process…I’d say this is a good way to go about succeeding in that goal!

scuttlebutt in FL is Rubio will endorse Romney so he can be his VP…the ONLY reason, I might believe this is BEFORE he ran for the senate, he came out for Arizona’s tough immigration law, THEN while he ran for the Senate, totally reversed his position,,,one could argue he needed to because just being Hispanic wouldn’t be enough to capture the Hispanic vote in S FL, he had to almost say he was for amnesty…it might be Univision is still ticked off at his first stance and might think that ‘s what is really in his heart, not caving for a vote…

  • flgal208

on his stance on Arizona’s immigration law—he was all for it, until he campaigned for the Senate—I think Univision is ticked he ever took a strict anti-immigration stance before flipping against it…BTW—I’m NE FL, so I voted for Rubio & Scott (West is not in my district, MIcca is)

a governor who has actually made cutting spending and taxes a priority. and the liberal press down here hates him for it. they run daily ”hit pieces” on him and wont let you post any pro scott editorial letters.

Saban isn’t acting on any Jewish interest here. He’s a liberal, perhaps mugged on Israel-PLO negotiations, but a liberal. Our current immigration policy brings in people who don’t like Jews or Israel.

I do wish someone would ask Saban what he thinks of Israel deporting illegal aliens, and why America shouldn’t have the same right to determine its national interest in immigration. It might short circuit his mighty-morphing brain.

nominee earning this state’s electoral votes. However, with our large Meican-American population, I know something of how that demographic thinks (which is the opposite of how it votes, sadly, something not specific to them, of course.)

The “Hispanic” population here and elsewhere is far and away Mexican. They are unlikely to see a Cuban-American as their pal. Same with the Puerto Ricans in NY, NJ. (Of course, those states are not going GOP either, are they?)

It’s silly to look at Spanish-speaking demos as “Hispanics” for voting purposes. Each subset is quite different from the other. The talking heads on Fox and the other networks show they live in white elite enclaves devoid of the people they claim to unerstand when they say that Rubio will help win over “Hispanics.”

I really like Marco Rubio; I wish he had executive experience. If he’s chosen as the VP nominee, he’ll help with Florida, a state we need, and he’ll help get conservatives off their sofas, but he will not deliver any other state by virtue of Spanish-speaking peoples seeing him as “Hispanic.” He is Cuban-American and no Mexican-American I know feels any familial bond with him. If anything, many will view him as similar to the ruling Castillian class of Mexico, whom they hate.

in California as well, so I know there’s no choice of the state ever going Republican. Even if unemployment jumped to 15 percent, it would go for Obama.

  • tailfins1959

I will bet a dollar to a doughnut that Saban was thinking “gusano” when he said “anti-Hispanic”! Can I call Saban a come-mierda? If I can’t, the mods can feel free to edit out that last question.

  • edintexas

Rubio, as a Spanish speaking candidate can only help. No, Mexican-Americans and Puerto Ricans are not going to consider a Cuban-American “one of them”, but a candidate’s ability to communicate in their language (excluding local idiom) has been proven to help gain votes – see George W. Bush and the “Hispanic” vote. That is unless you take the position that the Mexican-American and Puerto Rican voters might vote for a Spanish speaking Anglo, but not a Cuban-American delivering stump speeches in Spanish.

Most Conservatives do not take a “strict anti-immigration stance”. I can’t speak for all, but I believe the issue is ILLEGAL immigration, not immigration.

That may be what you intended, but (as Limbaugh says) words mean things, and “anti-immigration” is not restricted only to illegals.

I’m sure there are folks who are anti-immigration. But I believe the vast majority of citizens are opposed to illegal immigration and not opposed to ANY immigration.

  • edintexas

you think of another way to put forth the ‘He was for it before he was against it” comment about Rubio? I’m not a Floridian and have no skin in the game vis-a-vis Rubio, but I did happen to notice a certain similarity in your posts.

“…won’t let you post any pro scott editorial letters.”

Orlando Slantinel is my local rag. They’ve done a complete lefty makeover in the last decade and hate, hate, hate Scott. Use to get pubished by them back in the day but now its very rare that we see anything but letters from the same 10 editor-favored progressives. The Scott-hate has even oozed into the sports & business pages. They’re about to lose a 50+ year family subscription.

Rubio is a media made star in part due to this preoccupation with his ethnicity. Of course liberals want him to boost ratings and they hate him for his affiliation with the Republicans.

Seldom do media ever criticize their own authority while exposing flaws of rivals. Calling FNC Murdoch influenced is smart, i agree it is floowing Murdoch and Ailes views closely from firing Beck, insulting Palin and showing sympathy for Gingrich’s amnesty after 25 years..

But , the critical motives are not pure news at Telemondo and Univision either.

I am sorry rookie Sen Rubio is caught in the cross fire of these deadly media catfights that turn partisan.

  • celador2

Whatever policy position young Rubio has taken on AZ he is still close to former governor Bush and has worked doing Hispanic outreach summer 2011. Fox news has pundits like Hannity, O’Reilly and Krauthammer who want him crowned VP. We have had a Fox poll for online votes and hear a constant mantra –’Rubio for VP’.

Rubio is the pundits choice and his support crosses the line divide of tea partiers(some) and establishmsnt types like media and Bushes.

The Bush brothers seem soft on amnesty compared to others in the party as Pres Bush backed the Mccain – Kennedy Amnesty TWICE only to see it fall.

He is not my choice for VP and I think it wise to have but one superstar on a ticket —with a backup who can step up if called.

…”Egyptian born Israeli-American” Haim Saban is authentically Hispanic. He’s also authentically black, authentically female, and authentically everything else that one ought to want to be in this world. We KNOW he is, because he hates Republicans.

Nice, huh? It would be hilarious if it were not so pathetic,

Oh, who am I kidding? It IS f-ing hilarious. Where do they *find* these people, anyway?

  • artbrownsr

and ?anti-immigration? is not restricted only to illegals.
This is good advice please THINK about the words you use and ALL the ways they can be spun by the opposition. We are a nation of immigrants, but we do not have to tolerate ILLEGAL IMMIGRANTS! Most of my lineage is from Northern Europe and a small portion of Native American, my wife’s lineage includes Cajun and African. All were immigrants except the Native Americans. but all were accepted as LEGAL !
