I don’t think that Romney will be able to handle the pressure. It may not effect the vote in NH..polls suggest that 85% of voters there have firmly committed to their candidates,…but in SC..and the debates there…it WILL make a big difference..

This is a direct attack, but I expected more from Gingrich. I mean, when he wants to get dirty, he gets real dirty. This ad is, well, kind of timid for Gingrich.

This is basically taken from his full-page ad in the NH Union Leader, complete with the same two pull quotes. It’s fine to hit him on jobs, and it definitely shows message discipline, but I’d like to see him hit Romney directly on electability. This is the major illusion propping Romney up and none of the candidates has taken a mass media swipe at it.

if there were an alliance between the remaining candidates against Mitt Romney, their SuperPacs in particular, they could take this guy out. I like David Axelrod’s word “carpetbomb”

but I can’t abide Newt Gingrich! I remember him from before. He is sleazy and a womanizer! We have a sliver tongued devil for President. I am not interested in another one and that is all he has. Just my opinion.

We’re watching Newt to see how he handles himself under attack, and to see if he is bold/clever/strategic enough to get beyond the attacks. This is the mark of a successful politician.

Obama will come at our nominee with full Chicago thuggery. The national media will assist as his willing campaign staff. This election promises to be the most vicious in memory. We must vet a candidate who can take the blows, and throw some back in a careful, strategic manner.

If this careful attack stategy works for Newt, he will throw Romney off game. But the bigger win will be the increase in stature for Newt. Newt will show himself to be someone who can engage in the political fray and emerge victorious.

THAT is what we need to defeat the current dictator at 1600 Penn.

I think this ad is weak- and I sent a note to Newt’s website with a suggestion.

He keeps referring to balancing the budget – back then. I don’t think many people under age 50 remember or realize what a big accomplishment it was. So, I recommended that he explain and educate the voters on why and how (as if it had never been done before).

He is not getting the bang he expects, and I saw the ad as a failure.

By no stretch of the imagination is Newt a perfect person or the “ideal” candidate. But we genuinely need for someone to point out that Mitt Romney DOES have significant weaknesses and what those weaknesses are so that voters can take that information into context in deciding who they will choose.

There’s a statement Newt made at the end of the IA caucus that spells it out…if you want someone to “manage” the decay in Washington, Mitt Romney can do this.

We’ve had liberals in Europe telling us that “America must manage it’s decline”. And nothing would make the Liberals in the US happier than for the American people to believe that our nation is declining.

If we buy into it, our nation WILL decline! If we fight against it, we at least have some chance to alter the outcomes.

Is Mitt Romney the kind of person who will provide the type of leadership that will allow us to overcome obstacles we’re facing? Or will he just be a “manager of America’s decline”?

Are we to a point of settling for America’s decline?

Not comparing Newt’s personal life to Churchill’s but Churchill was not that popular a person between the two world wars but was called upon in a time of great need and when his job was done…he was promptly discarded….Newt could be the person for a time like this as well….just a thought!

I’d like to know what is so timid about Romney’s plan side from it’s lack of a new tax plan. If this line is going to be successful Newt will have to cite examples. The attack will backfire if tax policy is all you have. We already saw that fight with 999 and flat taxes. Most of the proposals already out there stand zero chance of becoming law, and are pandering at best. It just gave Romney more ammo for the electability argument. Plus Romney has already stated that he’s still working on a tax plan. It could give him a leg up if he reveals a well thought out plan like Huntsmann’s. In fact I think this type of attack hurts Romney/Santorum and helps Huntsman, but does nothing to help Gingrich.

So again I ask: Aside from tax policy, what is so timid about Romney’s plan?

According to one article, here. all the old McCain attack ads on Romney were removed from YouTube, but the PAC, Winning the Future, has it on the front page of its site, and it’s still up at YouTube.

Virtually everything they post about Newt is negative. They even have a post about this ad saying that the ad itself is too timid.

Newt is not going to execute a rapid 180 degree turn in campaign demeanor and go full-out nasty like Romney, and he certainly isn’t going to be as dishonest as Romney. He is going to become increasingly more critical of Mitt in his ads, and he’s going to brutalize him in the debates.

I think with Newt, Rick and Ron going at Mitt with unflattering ads, his poll numbers are bound to go down. Unfortunately, the conservative base is too split, so Romney may still get the nomination by default. Go Newt!

Newt has a whole tractor trailer full of baggage following him around. Look for Newt’s “graveyard of skeletons” to come to life again real soon.

Isn’t it nice to see, two guys who fought over who could be the squishy nominee with few conservative principles tearing each other apart. Newt, Perry, and the rest ought to make sure this gets out there and stays out there.

Construction, energy and manufacturing are the jobs this country needs right now . Not supermarket jobs. It’s not that they are a bad job but they typically pay a low wage and are unskilled.

…Erick “I could never support Jon Huntsman” Erickson who has now become Erick “the other guy CAN’T beat Obama” Erickson will come to terms with Erick “I never thought I’d say this, but Gov. Romney can win and deserves our support” Erickson and we will have come full circle.

Or, he could stand firm and be CNN’s token Republican who preaches Romney’s awfullness through 11/6/12.

For all the niceties he gives to Santorum, Newt needs to point out his proud record of earmarks and 2000s style big govt Republicanism. We’re in a different era for conservatism.

This is a good ad and shows Newt, whom I think was pissed over the last couple of days (and it showed), has calmed down and realized attack and contrast is the best way to go.

BTW – to all of you who are saying Newt’s a sore loser – Get a life! He’s pissed off because Romney will not take responsibility for stuff his Super PACs have put out there. That’s dishonest on Romney’s part.

What those who support Newt remember about him back in the day was his superior strategic mind, intellect, and encyclopedic knowledge about history and political science especially compared to all the other run-of-the-mill politicians. The debates proved he still had those capabilities.

However, I think the ad that Erick displayed is weak and timid, compared to what Newt is capable of. He can produce an accurate and truthful ad that is extremely effective and still keep his promise of a positive campaign.

Definition of a positive campaign in my opinion is on that is honest about the differences between two candidates. The McCain ad that another member posted is a perfect example of that. Newt needs more creative and visceral ads like that against Romney if he hopes to win.

One other thing, I’m started to be impressed with Rick Santorum’s endurance and tenacity. I would be perfectly happy with a Gingrich/Santorum ticket or even a Santorum/Gingrich ticket. They are aligned in many ways, both rebels in their own way and if I remember correctly Rick Santorum said in a debate that Newt’s writings are what got him involved in politics.

Conservatives need to unite soon to stop Romney. Supposedly there is a meeting in Texas with some large donors to figure out an answer to this splitting the conservative vote problem.
