Susan G. Komen Listened. Have You Responded?

Yesterday, the Susan G. Komen Foundation announced it would stop giving money to Planned Parenthood. Conservatives have been pushing on this issue for a while.

As a result of the announcement, the left has gone on the attack. It is important that you who wanted Komen to do this say thank you. You can email them at news@Komen.org.

More importantly, you can donate to them. If you are not willing to support an organization that takes a stand you want when they come under attack, you cannot be surprised when less organizations listen to you.

So say thank you.

And thanks for bringing it up on the CoverItLive. I gave a double-sized donation myself just now, to make up for one they lost from someone who believes pro-abortion to be the be-all and end-all of women’s issues.

  • partyof1

it’s not like I need to save it for any presidential candidates anyway

  • earhartam

Yes, I emailed my “thank you.” And, redstate.com,, thank you for bringing it to our attention.

…I can stop boycotting all the pink SGK products in Wal-Mart and start running their 5k’s again.

I was overjoyed at seeing the news on this one, both because it is great news in and of itself, and because to me at least, it came as such a welcome surprise.

I had not thought to write them or donate though until I read your post. I have now done so.

Now let’s just get the abortionists tentacles out of Amnesty International, Girl Scouts, the public fisc, and most importantly – the law.

Thank you, Erick, for reminding us of the responsibility to reward good behavior with the same vigor has we punish bad.

They’d never reached my radar screen for donations before. Honestly, I’d probably have given in the past without knowing their entanglement with Planned Parenthood.

  • wayneinnh

I stopped donating to them years ago when the link between them and PP came to light.

I have e-mailed Komen to thank them, but have not sent a check because the publicized reason for the funding halt is that PP is under investigation. To me, that means if PP is cleared in the investigation, Komen may start funding them again.

Lifenews.com has an article today about new Komen VP Karen Handel’s pro-life record, which is very encouraging. My highest hope is that with a pro-lifer highly placed in the organization, Komen will give recognition to the peer-reviewed, scholarly medical studies showing a positive relationship between abortion and breast cancer.

She actually spoke at the first RedState Gathering.

So yeah, count us as people who like her.

They very clearly stated that their withdrawal of support for PP had nothing to do with PP’s abortion mill business. It was only withdrawn because they have a stated position of not supporting any organization that is under congressional investigation, which PP is.

I am glad they will not be supporting PP, but if that investigation is cleared (which can happen for any number of reasons – think it would be gone in an instant if the Dems re-take the House in Nov.?), they go back to supporting PP. We should still keep a very watchful eye on Komen. Yes, support them, but keep pressuring them to do the right thing for the right reason.

    Why should they?

This is about saving lives, is it not?

  • MF

Yes, you’re certainly right that it’s about saving lives. However, with the policy that’s been adopted, it’s only a matter of time before Komen would go back to funding PP. I want Komen to do the right thing not only for the short term, but for the long term as well. (I know you do, too.) That was the point of my reply.

  • fortcollins

The Komen foundation just restored regifting funding to Planned Abortionhood. That, after receiving a large boost in donations during the brief period between suspending the funding and restoring the funding.

Conservatives who donated in the interim may wish to consider demanding return of their donations.

  • mirac777

That Komen had in fact, restored funding to PP, due to political pressure from nasty leftists and their elected Liberal puppets.

    Thats was 5 days ago.

  • 6t9boss

Really! I thought all this fund raising was go to fight Cancer in Women; not to fund abortions.

Let me get this straight..I should donate to this Cause to save Women’s lives so they can KILL their unwanted babies!?

  • jiminga

news reports say Komen has reversed their position and will continue to support PP, and Karen Handel resigned yesterday as a result. They caved to pressure from the left.

  • iluvit

of the left. You always have to wait and see their actions. Think about it, you have an organization that is willing to boldly support the clear killing of the most innocent of all for years. Then the politics get messy and they change a policy to try to deflect the bad publicity. However, they never really backtracked because of abortion, but for some other rational that did not make sense. Then conservatives lose their head and via knee-jerk reaction send money to the leftist organization that they think is like the prodigal son coming in from eating with the pigs. NOT! When are we ever going to learn to calm down, survey the situation, and make rational decision bases on evidence and performance.
The one good thing that may come out of this is that those of us who did not know that this organization was funding Planned Parenthood will certainly know now so overall their funding may suffer. This is not the only source of funding for breast cancer research so you can vote with your money now that you know the truth. You can bet your …….they will be supporting the left in November. Anyway, my parents died of gastric and ovarian cancer both of which are nastier cancers but do not get all this type of attention. Maybe you can redirect your contributions to other ares. Just do not fund the United Way either. They are one of the biggest scams going with very small percentages of your donation actually going to the cause. Most is overhead.

  • edintexas

At the least it is really odd to put this item at the top of the Morning Briefing list a couple of days after the Foundation folded to the demands of the Left.

  • roywatts

I thought I read where this organization decided that after some serious left-wing badgering them that they decided they were going to support Planned Abortion after all. I think you need to check your facts because I hope we aren’t sending them thank-you love notes when they are indeed supporting abortion.

It’s one thing to say you aren’t going to do it but then to turn around after I think maybe a day or two and say – oh, well maybe we can give to them because all these Democratic Congressmen can’t be wrong is just plain wrong.

RedState – we expect you to stay on top of this. Check your facts!

  • roywatts

It didn’t take them two days to waffle on their decision and start supporting them again. Their reason (from what I heard) was that it was found that women that had abortions are much more likely to have breast cancer!

Shouldn’t be rocket science for them then should it? Well, if we don’t support killing these babies then maybe the number of women contracting breast cancer will decrease which is what we are all about! Yeah, that’s a good idea! Let’s not support Planned Abortion aka Planned Parenthood.

But then, less than 48 hours after their decision to withhold their support from Planned Abortion, they have one of their big wigs quit their organization and Congressmen/women calling them begging them to rescind their decision and what do they do, they waffle and decide to still back Planned Abortion.

What part of that reasoning is sound? If more ladies are contracting breast cancer due in large part by their decision to kill their child, why is it still okay to support these murderers?

Folks, I’m sorry but I call it like it is. Abortion is murder – no two ways about it. I have NEVER EVER EVER heard ANY circumstance where carrying a child to term would jeopardize the health of the mother. Now, you can buy a Doctor to say anything you want, but truth is truth. I’ll forgive that mother for killing their baby and I’m sure if they repent and ask for forgiveness they Father will forgive them as well but for the Doctors and people that work for this organization and knowingly kill multiple babies a day, I don’t know how they can live with themselves.

  • roywatts

They probably received their hefty donations due to their telling people they were not going to support Planned Abortionhood, and when they restored funding to them, that money was received under false pretenses and should be returned.

If you put it on a Credit Card, then cancel the payment and call your credit card company and dispute the charge.

  • romeyers

I think they went about this completely wrong. Instead of working from within the planned parenthood organization to change polices they removed funding that was paying for an essential program, breast cancer screening.

Now I’m going to get into the part of this controversy as I see it, that will get all the pro-lifers pissed. I am pro-”CHOICE” not pro-abortion, pro-”CHOICE’.

If you think that there should be a national law controling access to” legal” abortion, fine, lets put it on the ballot. But, here’s the kicker, only women can vote on the question! All you preists, preachers, judges, politicians, and other testosterone butt-heads butt out! If you don’t have a uterus, womb, and/or vagina you don’t get to vote! The women have the job of carrying your brats around for 9 months and then wiping their noses for another 18 years many times with no help from you manly men. They carry the kids, they have the right to “CHOSE”

If the women of this country chose in a free and open ballot (without being intimidated by thier darling spouses/boy-friends, or told they’re going to HELL by the caring priests and preachers, and the less said about politicians the better) than that should be the law of the land, wether it be open, restricted, or no abortion.

The rest of you shut up allready!

  • cj44

They caved! Shame on them. If you invested money get it back unless you want to support someone who supports abortions. Too bad they didn’t go at this another way and provide the mams without the Planned Parenthood agenda.

  • usanovak

I have supported Koman in the past, but no more. So sad they caved.
